Lactation support conference in Ireland - the quiet part out loud

When my son was in special care, i was struggling to express at home and called the unit, as they told us to.

I got the one male nurse on the unit. As soon as i explained what i needed advice with, i was pleased that his instant response was 'I'll go and get a woman'.

Kinder for my dignity and an acknowledgement that he didn't really know.

What a contrast.

The same type of people who enabled dodgy adults to insist that the words woman and all related accurate female language should be removed from medicine, maternity care, menopause and menstruation policies and care etc etc
The same type of people who insist that multiple sex crimes committed by men should be ascribed to women and that the police should harras women daring to raise concerns about extreme transactivism.

We're in this mess because people have been allowed to bully their way into influencing institutions using the cloak of the "sacred caste" with no criticism or challenge allowed - let alone the idea of exercising critical thinking or due diligence.

i'll tell you one thing I know about breast feeding - I was a hell of a lot better at it the second time around. someone who has never done it is going to be fuck all use when it comes to advice

That's not it, really. I'm just curious as to whether professional women would dissent with the atmosphere prevalent in the last decade. Even if their dissenting was by far the majority view in the room.

How on earth did he ever become a 'lactation consultant'? So one minute he was a receptionist booking appointments and arranging for breast pumps to be delivered and the next he's a renowned expert in the field? His accusations that women who say they are exclusively breast feeding are lying is absolutely bonkers! It is just unbelievable that women take any notice of this charlatan.What I should say is why the hell are health authorities and organisations promoting his crap? I suspect Caligula would make a reasonable job of it. The Little Boot was at least a survivor, when his mother managed to get the rest of the family killed. And he spent quite a lot of time and money on mending the roads....

(I have had to do with running events in hotels. The utter nightmare is the hotel pulling out for whatever reason, leaving you with the need to find another within budget and in time.)

The 'health and safety' made me laugh. They cannot admit that they really messed up inviting this guy. I'd nearly feel sorry for them except it's their own stupid fault for getting in bed with the DEI stuff/woke stuff/pronouns stuff. It's so important for ALCI to know that we have the receipts - they'll probably try to squirm out of this [what's with the 'health and safety grounds'??] but they need to have their noses rubbed in it.

Not just the JE thing itself, but their 'ethos' of 'human lactation' being something that everyone has a right to have a go at, because of 'inclusivity'.

I think that will feel just plain wrong to a lot of Irish people, even the many who have gone along with '#bekind' and trans rights without thinking too deeply about it.

You'd be surprised, and "proprietary such and such" and, just do it MN, or else, even with stuff that has been in the public domain. I think MN is very good at standing their ground when it really matters (hence FWR and our discussions over the past however many years while everyone else caved), but they're risk averse when it comes to advertisers and being sued. (all of this is pure speculation, of course, except the part about my post being deleted).

One of mine had the resolve of Caligula when it came to refusing bottles.

Logically, he must know that it's possible to exclusively breast feed a child, given that humans are mammals and we existed for millions of years before formula was invented but he can't just say 'some people combine formula and breastfeeding very successfully'. He has to say that women who say they exclusively breastfeed are lying.

I've kept a copy, so if anyone wants it they can ask me to put it up again. On what possible grounds could they ask for it to be removed. It was out in public and there is zero on it that they should be trying to hide. We on mumsnet can be certain that the organisers of the conference fully vetted everyone at it.

Then there is also the NMBI in big bold letters too. (Irish Nursing and Midwifery Board).

If that wasn't enough, there is - hi - another Irish government initiative on the page.

No doubt all three organisations are delighted to be on here (and probably the HSE is sponsoring the event ! ) .

So we can be ever so certain that breast feeding women and their babies are being given the best of advice.
