The Welsh Gender Service (WGS): a "potential Service of Concern"

Meanwhile, a bit of news from Wales: Another piece of reporting from Nick Wallis' GenderBlog from 19 August 2026:

Welsh gender clinic “potential Service of Concern” – GenderBlog

The Welsh Gender Service (WGS) has been described as a “potential Service of Concern” in an internal NHS document published online. A Service of Concern is a formal NHS designation, meaning there has been “significant singular service failures, or cumulative or systemic concerns regarding a service or setting”.
^^
The WGS, based in Cardiff, is the only clinic in Wales allowed to refer NHS patients for genital surgeries and mastectomies. In May, GenderBlog revealed that the WGS was referring adult patients for genital surgeries and mastectomies at three to four times the rate per head of population than other UK clinics. If the Service of Concern process establishes there is “a clear and significant risk to patient safety”, the WGS will go into special measures.

.…………

In the meantime, WGS will continue to receive referrals. (I surmise, just in case they are not put into special measures.)

Nick Wallis is doing great work.

All other media failing.

Welsh government doing nothing.

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · 21/08/2026 19:09

Good, the woman in charge needs to be suspended and investigated then charged. 🤬

Yes, this is the only story I've come across recently on this. (Of course, there may be others I haven't seen). He does good work that very few others seem to want to even go near.

Anyone reading this, don't forget you can support Nick in his work (details in his blog).
Have added this as a separate post just in case MNHQ decide I'm not allowed to say this (no idea if it's close to the edge of The Rules).

Nation Cymru covering this and quoting Nick Wallis.

They have been the only outlet that reports decently on gender/sex issues in Wales.

The Welsh Tories and Reform have been asking questions about the WGS too. Clearly there is a horrific scandal here which could have been stopped ages ago only the Welsh government and media refused to do anything.

Unlike the comments, which are usually from immigrants from cloud cuckooland.

Thanks for this. It has reminded me to get round to supporting Nick's work.

I very much doubt that the general public supports the NHS paying for any 'affirmative' surgery.

But if there's a clinic that's referring four times as many people as other places, surely that suggests that there's no agreed-upon diagnostic criteria and all of these surgeries are ideologically-driven rather than necessary?

fromorbit · 23/08/2026 09:03

ALERT!

The Truth is getting out. Nick Wallis Article in The Times. WGS exposure is going to be a huge scandal. This could change the ground in a big way in Wales. Nowhere for Plaid Welsh Labour to run.

The Welsh Gender Service is referring adults for gender reassignment surgery at an alarming rate. So why are we still waiting for action?

Remember you can help. Write letters to press/MSs etc. Keep the pressure up. Why has there been a coverup in Wales when they knew what was happening in England who is to blame for experiments on kids?

Verifying Device

The new Plaid Cymru Government in Wales are in a right pickle now this long simmering scandal has gone public. Their own 2026 manifesto commits to the development of the Welsh Gender Service. Many of their Ministers are also heavily influenced by trans activism. What’s their next step? Heads in the sand, an announcement of support or one committing to action? My bet is not on the latter for sure.

The figures are staggering, there's no way they're Welsh only referrals, it looks like the WAG have made Wales into the UK's 'trans' tourist destination.

Lets hope this national attention will bear fruit, at the very least they should stop any more referrals, until an investigation has been completed.

“They’re just hell-bent on getting these kids through their treatment — onto hormones and onto the theatre table, basically … It’s criminal.”

Just like Tavistock.

Something is stirring. Lots of hysterical posts on Reddit reporting that surgical referrals have been abruptly halted with patients prepped & gowned for surgery being returned to the ward.

I thought they utilised surgical centres outside of Wales? I find it hard to believe people would be turned back at the stage of being in gowns and on trollies - that seems like a bit of exaggeration for effect to me.

There are several reports. I’m guessing that the funding has been cut so the English NHS Trust won’t be able to cross-charge.

Thanks for this. If anyone finds further confirmation of this, please do post it here. It would be useful to know if something is radically changing at WGS.

The funding of operations on Welsh residents in English hospitals is in a very bad place currently. This is for all operations, not just gender related ones.

Biscofffan · Yesterday 13:34

Welsh Gender Service Review - operations being cancelled as of today 28/08/2026 apparently?

TheywontletmehavethenameIwant · Yesterday 14:23

Wow, Nick Wallis you did it, you got them to stop the referrals, the power of the press. Whoo hoo hoo 🥳

If it's true of course.

Plus the Conservatives and Reform MS's raising questions in the Senedd and putting the situation under the spotlight probably helped.

CrystallisedGinger · Yesterday 16:10

For those who are looking for confirmation that surgeries were cancelled, these two were both posted yesterday in a Transgender group I'm in.

Cardiff and Vale Health Board have now confirmed an independent clinical review of the WGS and an immediate pause on all surgeries.

Thanks for the update, lets hope the person in charge has been suspended without pay as well. How many has she sent down the conveyor belt to mutilation and sterilisation. 🤬

The activist Dr Sophie Quinney is no longer Clinical Director at the Welsh Gender Service. She still works there, but the NHS declined to renew her contract as Clinical Director in April, shortly after she was filmed grabbing a videographer’s phone out of his hand at a trans activist rally. There is no evidence this is anything more than a coincidence.

Demoted but not fired, sadly.
