Midlands Partnership University NHS trust tells trans staff they can use women’s toilets

Midlands Partnership University NHS Foundation Trust (MPFT) told staff on Wednesday that there would be “no immediate changes” to its policies or practices while it awaited further guidance from NHS England.

Patients can access single-sex facilities, including hospital wards, according to their gender identity rather than biological sex, under the Trust’s Trans Inclusion and Single Sex Accommodation policies.

Staff are also allowed to use toilets and showers based on their gender identity.

The Equality and Human Rights Commission’s (EHRC) revised Code came into force on Wednesday, more than a year after the Supreme Court ruled “sex” in equality law means biological sex rather than gender identity.

It says single-sex services must be provided based on biological sex. Transgender people should use facilities intended for their biological sex or separate or mixed-sex alternatives.

An email from MPFT to staff this week said: “We understand this may be a difficult and anxiety-provoking time for our trans, non-binary and gender-diverse colleagues, service users and communities, and we want to reassure you that we stand by you, and remain committed to being an inclusive organisation.”

The NHS was set up to deliver a health service from cradle to grave for 30 million people not the 67 million we now have.

And I doubt very much whether that increase is due to immigrants.

At the time when the NHS was being set up life expectancy was a lot less. It was not uncommon for people to die in their early seventies so the NHS didn't have to cater for the health needs of extreme elderly people as it does now.

Not forgetting of course that with out all these "immigrants" we wouldn't have a national health service as not only are the majority working they are doing many of the essentials jobs that whoever are not immigrants (not sure who they are particularly in England as nearly everyone has an immigrant heritage) dont want to do.

Its really strange that these sort of comments are increasing on FWR, but always said as though it is a statement of fact that everyone agrees with.

I wonder why they think this forum would be a receptive audience.

Confused

Not open to an alternative point of view then.

Dont be so silly.

It isn't about a "point of views" it is about facts.

ie the implication being the problem is because of immigration.

eg That might have something to do with the many millions of people we've let into the country.

Do you have the stats to substantiate such a claim.

Do you think it out ways the normal growth in population?

IANAL but I believe Neale Hanvey is a trustworthy source on this.

"Waiting for guidance from NHS England"
...the organisation that's being abolished altogether? That's a new convenient way to try and kick the can of obeying the law down the road. Not sure it'll hold up in court.

If I remember correctly Public Sector organisations do not have Public Liability Insurance.

The NHS has Resolution also know a Liabilities to Third Parties Scheme. So it would be tax payers forking out via NHS budgets.

I suspect this is why the NHS thinks it can get away with not following the law.

Ah, ye olde tactics:

The One Where They Deflect: there are more important issues (than trans-identifying men in women's spaces)

The Faux Concern (or Squirreling): look at all the other issues women should be fighting for

The "It's too expensive to implement"

The "It doesn't mean anything" (we'll do what we want until someone complains)

The "It's too hard to implement" (don't take them to court, we must change hearts and minds first)

Yes, we see you. And, we're keeping track.

Well said. And don’t forget the oldie but goldie “Nobody Cares”.

I wonder if the soon to be extinct NHSE does ever give any guidance on the guidance on the law, who else’s guidance will need to be awaited before IMPLEMENTING THE LAW.

(Apologies if this has already been said, still catching up.)

Staggering the number of places now coming out openly as political supporters of anti-women activism (and by extension via the law they wish to destroy) anti-gay activism. And strongly, loudly against inclusion and equality.

These places need to be warned that without following the law and impartial services based on actual inclusion, actual equality and not trying to rid themselves of the members of the public they don't wish to serve...

they should be stripped of government funding.

Local Authorities hold and have played that card to organisations resisting disability equality and access; let's see National Government get on this please. Or, as PPs say, return taxes to women and gay people. Why should they fund services not only not for them but loudly and aggressively posting this kind of 'hate' at them for daring to exist?

gerispringer · 10/08/2026 11:24

Just read a letter from my new Green mayor warning of the “ dangers of single sex spaces” . I have replied pointing out the “ dangers of men in women's spaces” Why aren't they worrying about emptying the bins and social care etc?

Wishesandhorses · 10/08/2026 11:29

'Dangers' of single sex spaces???!

Do these men actually have any fucks to give at all for women?

What is this idiot's plan for women excluded from resources, services, spaces, that they cannot access on a mixed sex basis? And what laws can those living in his patch just not bother with if they personally think they know better? Council tax? Parking fees? Arson?

TheKeatingFive · 10/08/2026 11:41

How is this allowed?

Clearly the DGAF about being sued as its not their money that will be paying for it.

The government needs to step in here.

If only the people directly responsible for these illegal decisions could be also held directly financially responsible for the fines after inevitable conclusion of the resulting court cases. All this nonsense would end very quickly once they started having to sell their homes and empty their bank accounts to pay for their hubris.

Depending on the circumstances, the claimant can sometimes bring a discrimination claim against both the employer and one or more individual employees. I think that Sandy Peggie is in the process of adding a couple of managers to her claim, suing them as individuals, isn't she? The employee doesn't usually end up paying much compensation, but it must be a wake-up call.

Excellent. Transphobia fixes nothing and endangers gnc cis women. It makes trans people targets for vigilantes while doing sweet fa to solve the issue of male violence. Good to see the NHS supporting their minority staff as attacks against them rise.

As for patients: 14 years of Tory government has meant a massive drop in staffed beds which hasn't ever been corrected. Corridor care is normal, with people actually dying undiscovered in A&E.

Mixed wards are a reality due to a horribly overburdened service.

There is no money to implement this transphobic guidance for patients.

Friend of mine is an NHS exec. She says the main issues affecting the hospital's catchment are poverty, chronic illness, DV and modern slavery. No mention of hordes of men eagerly throwing on dresses to gain this magic 'access to women' in toilets, oddly enough.

Suing the NHS will deprive it of cash and make services worse. It will kill people.

Oh get a grip. Men, regardless of whether they’ve thrown on a dress, should not be in women’s private spaces. The men who use women’s spaces don’t give a crap about women. They want to assert dominance over women’s wants and needs even as they pretend to be one.

Kirschcherries · 10/08/2026 20:00

I suspect if there is a group action against NHSE, like the one JKR is offering to fund, ot is highly likely to name individuals as respondents.

As a pp said the SP ET was unusual in naming DrU. The subsequent ETs against the NHSF Cabal of 5 names them individually as respondents.

I can see naming individual respondents as a deliberate tactic to make it clear decision makers cannot avoid being held personally responsible and accountable.

All it takes is a few nurses at Faye R-Cs hospital to start by raising a grievance against named people and for that to progress to ET. Suddenly the CEO is a respondent in the witness box explaining why they have issued a statement saying they will not follow the law. A judgement against them could impact their career.

But it's never really been about toilets. Or trans people, come to that. It's been about forcing women to agree that the definition of women includes biological men so men can access their spaces. Wanting to feel safe when performing intimate care or acts is not transphobic, it's something women have been conditioned to do for their entire lifetimes, mostly.

Please don't use the term cis woman. We are not a subset of our own sex. And I would be really grateful if you could point to some of these examples of attacks on trans people being on the rise?

First of all, biological women are not ‘cis’ women. We are WOMEN and calling us ‘cis’ is womenphobic.
Secondly, protecting women’s and girls’ rights is not transphobic. Creating and maintaining single sex spaces for women is not transphobic.
We have a right to our own toilets, changing rooms and organisations. Our daughters have a right to privacy without being forced to share changing rooms with biological males. They have a right to take part in sports without having to compete against biological males. They have a right not to be forced to share a room with biological males when they go away on a trip or a camp. None of this is transphobic.
I have not heard any women or women rights activists objecting to transwomen having their own separate spaces. I am sure most of us would be delighted if transwomen were given their own spaces provided that it would keep them away from women’s spaces. So no, protecting women’s and girls’ rights is not transphobic.
There is law in this country protecting women’s rights and I am appalled that NHS is determined to break this law.
