Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

If 65.5% of trans people say they are non-binary how are they trans and why are they bothered by the Supreme Court ruling

This figure of 65.5% of trans people saying this is said to come from EU LGBTIQ Survey III.

Which just made me think that if that is the current or even future trend of "trans identity", then the Supreme Court ruling, the GRA, most of the more hardline TRA activities, are just not relevant.

The TRAsy focus on sex and gender being interchangeable. So why is this minority group within a minority group running the agenda to have sex no longer seen as biological.

Not sure of the figures but apparently the largest group within the survey were those who said that they were Lesbian, Gay or Bisexual and that their sex was primary to that identity.

Feel free to explain 'trans non-binary' to us.

Why do you need an explanation? Non binary people say they don’t identify with either gender, I don’t need to know or care about the specifics of their beliefs, not sure why anyone does.
I’m not religious and don’t believe there is a god, but it doesn’t mean I go about objecting to others doing so. I wouldn’t have a hope in hell of explaining the specific meanings of the Koran or a Latin bible, but neither do I need anyone to justify the meanings for me to accept those who do believe as equals.

There’s no point expecting any consistency and logic or meaning to terms. It all means exactly what the individual wants it to mean at any given time, except when they want it to mean something else.

This is such a perfect description of it 😂

I almost feel like a teenager in the 90’s again, when people would lose their shit because other people were homosexual.
’omg think of the children’ ‘it’s self indulgent claptrap’ ‘it infringes my right to be straight because erm, reasons’

Ironically I think by the 90s those people who were out, were usually clearly gay or lesbian because by then a sort of shared dress code had become common. Although for some this might have meant how they dressed at the weekend and not when going to work.

But by and large lesbians and gay men were just getting on with their lives as part of society, and why Gay Liberation marches were deliberate about people dressing "normally" or in their work uniforms to emphasise they are just ordinary people. They weren't out demanding people acknowledge them through some sort of made up code of showing subservience to their being somehow superior beings.

Which didn't mean tv and radio, mainly comedy didn't rely on terrible caricatures to get laughs. And no doubt in some communities prejudice was still overt. Think of Billy Elliot.

The more overt prejudice I heard was that people who were same sex attracted shouldn't be allowed to work with children.

Homosexuality is identifiable and definable, and in some parts of the world punishable by death.
Being non-binary - less so.

Not seeing the relevance of other parts of the world being homophobic as justification for transphobia

I just cannot with this shit.

Non-binary = just want to be treated as human beings, not girly girlies or macho lads (unm, yes, dear,,most of us feel this way).
But also want to be different and special and stunning and brave and get lots of attention and sympathy.

Transwomen = just want to be treated like every other woman. But also want to be different and special and stunning and brave and get lots of attention and sympathy.

Pretty much full-time heterosexuals who call themselves ‘queer’ <sigh> = just want to have a nice, straightforward shag with a member of the opposite sex. But also want to be different and special and stunning and brave and get lots of attention and sympathy.

See also bisexuals who call themselves pan sexual / omnisexual / other completely fictional ‘sexualities’.

See a pattern emerging here?

The only exception that I can see are the gender fluid lot, who unashamedly want to make their whole fucking life one great big narcississtic game of ‘guess whether I’m swinging my balls about in the boardroom or in a bikini today?’

I’m not obsessed or hateful. I just don’t want to have pander to or have to pretend to take seriously other people’s fetishes, mummy/daddy issues or teeny-style neuroses.

So basically I carry on exactly the same as I am now except for occasionally telling people I'm non-binary.

Seems simple!

Yep! But to be truly in character you have to tell people about your special identity at least once every 15 minutes. Don’t want to make people suspicious.

Traitors Spoilers

I watched the recent Canadian Traitors. On it there was a lesbian couple who didn't reveal they were married. One of them was referred to as they/them. She was literally a KD Lang-channelling type of woman and it looked like she had had a mastectomy.

I really liked her, and the cast as a whole was great, including the couple, and all of them were pretty intelligent, but I just kept thinking 'what is wrong with you all?'

What happened to society that you, with a straight face, would refer to a singular woman as a plural? There is a woman sitting there with you, yet you agree to pretend she's something other than a woman with short hair and a penchant for cargo trousers.

The winner name-checked her and said something along the lines of 'this is an important day for Canada, that < name > got through to the final 6' and again I thought - what was the achievement here? a likeable person was treated exactly the same as everyone else, except you agreed to mangle the English language because of her fashion choices.

I just think the world has gone mad

Edited for SPAG

It surely shouldn't be described as trans, as "non-binary" seems to be about rejecting gender, while transgender is all about gender, often very stereotypically so.

I wonder how the non-binaries would take it if everyone started identifying as non-binary because none of us adhere 100% to stereotypes. 🤔

I actually don't care what pronouns people use about me (which seems to be the main non-binary signifier).

I’ve said for years that we should all identify as “non binary” in a deadpan, earnest way. It would sink it in weeks.

I'm just arguing for the sake of arguing - the term 'non-binary' has so many interpretations that it it is a bit meaningless, isn't it?

But that's why I started the thread.

Why is this group of indentity shape shifters being called trans.

They aren't trans.

It skews all the claims about number of trans people.

But apparently are allowed to present as faux trans becomes it bumps the numbers up.

Even those who conducted the survey this figure is based on are opening saying we have falsified the figures for % of people who say they are trans.

That is the real issue.

And seems that all these non binary gender fluid aren't even that convinced about having this belief set as they are happy to be subsumed into and helping inflate the number of trans people.

The irony is that while NBs seem to think they are being cool and edgy by being non-binary, most of us dinosaurs on here could probably define ourselves as non-binary too!

Posters often mention that they have rejected the stereotypes of what a woman should be like, what jobs she should do, how she should style her hair, what clothes she should wear.
So if any of us encounter somebody who identifies egregiously as non-binary, we could greet them with a cheery
'That's a coincidence! me too! I've never like the strict binary between socially-constructed stereotypes of masculinity and femininity! how absolutely lovely to find a kindred soul'Grin

On the subject of the new Mayor of Manchester -
I suppose you could be a lesbian [sexual orientation] who adheres to socially-constructed stereotypes of masculinity and femininity by presenting as very butch or very femme.
She doesn't, so she is as non-binary as.... you or IWink

Aren't most of them just youngsters who would have been emo or goth not so long ago? Desperately wanting to be different, while choosing to surround themselves with people who mirror their looks and behaviours?

I think that's often the case. My daughter's school had loads. Many who were also a bit emo or whatever. That particular subculture has huge numbers of trans/non-binary people (from my subjective observation).

Literally couldn't be less interested in this cohort of attention seekers if I tried.... anything to be 'different' these days. Let's bring back 'being normal' as a trend!

And, yet... here you are. Again. If you don't like FWR, it's just so unfathomable why you would continue to post here.

It's a post about stats and a question about that. Is it now offensive to discuss trends and stats, because, if so, that's a new one on me. If you think the OP is offensive, why don't you report it, and see what they say?

You don't seem to have learnt yourself yet that there is nothing to learn, it's twaddle, bollocks, claptrap, preformative, stupidity, as shown by the hyper hysteric over the top hyperbolic use of 'vile' and 'hatred'.
If they're not having any effect on our existence, then we're not going to have any effect on their existence, so what's it to them (or just you) what we say?

It seems so strange when there are so many areas (some over commercialised) based on all sorts of aspects of just being alive! eg menopause support for women.

Why is there nothing similar for both boys and girls going through puberty. With the caution, that this is not a good period of time to take decision that will impact your whole life.

There should be, there could be, it could be part of something like, oh I don't know, Sex and Relationship Ed. But oh no, when they did bring that in it was in order to deliver a programme of made up stupidity. Instead of giving our children information to educate them about something that was real and would effect them on a personal level, they got a load of claptrap about 'identity'.

You comment has no basis.

My question was genuine. They quote the survey results where actual people said that.

If the survey has been better constructed they should have separated out those who say they are trans and those who say they are non binary, gender fluid. They are NOT the same thing.

If you really cared instead of indulging in victimhood, you would want this clarity, because in fact it is the muddling up of those who are trans, ie have a fixed identity of not wanting to be the sex they are born, and those who do not say anything like that, in fact are saying they cannot be categorised.

It is also important in terms of the law eg those who want to transition having a clear pathway and a GRC at the end of that process.

Non binary, gender fluid are the complete opposite and without saying they shouldn't have this belief. it is however the inclusion of this group under the umbrella term trans that is damaging the reputation of trans people as being serious about wanting to change their "identity" as it turns out the largest group within the umbrella word trans do not want to do anything as final as that. And by implication that trans people aren't serious.

It would be to everyone's advantage that gender fluid, non binary people are not trans as their very belief is against trans ideology.

When I was a teenager, it was one of the main messages we had in school, on tv shows that dealt with the teen years, books, even teen fashion magazines, that being a teenager involved s lot of intense uncomfortable feelings, including about our body. And that we'd usually outgrow them.

It seems so strange when there are so many areas (some over commercialised) based on all sorts of aspects of just being alive! eg menopause support for women.
