As the left swing to crazy leftie ideas, the right will swing further right.

On the one hand we have the Green priorities including “twinning with a Palestinian town”, decolonising public spaces, and establishing a slavery museum to acknowledge the area’s links to the transatlantic slave trade. Planning to refuse to share information with immigration enforcement agencies and will instead “support” those targeted by raids. Those come straight from the left in the US but also may be designed to appeal to the Muslim voters abandoning Labour.

Plus, Greens want to Explore ways to decriminalise prostitution, deprioritise the policing of cannabis, and lobby the Government to scrap “high-stakes formal testing” in schools such as GCSEs and A-levels. They also hope to convince the Supreme Court to rewrite the Code of Practice, which would “allow for trans inclusion in single-sex services” Ignoring their misunderstanding of the SC decision and the CoP, these seem designed to appeal to the blue haired brigade.

On the other, rumours of Restore members in Makerfield wearing what allegedly looked like paramilitary hit with GB flags (but which might be their own merch) as well as the likes of Alex Karp publishing his manifesto arguing democracy in the US now needs to restrict input to elected state officials and tech companies execs because the left in America are unreliable crazies (words to that effect).

All very worrying.

I honestly think it has been a product of our times: the culmination and apotheosis of various threads and strands of identity politics, Intersectionality, the women's and gay rights movements....combined with the power of social media to create group think and the money of silicone valley and the tech bros.
Add to the mix the American cult of individualism ( be your best/true self etc) combined with consumer and pharmaceutical culture. The perfect set of conditions for a self serving, reality denying cult to take hold.

Thanks for the link, it's hard not to think there's some sort of world wide conspiracy going on, the Greens in particular stand out as the part that is contaminated the worst.

Someday someone will have to write a book, explaining who makes up the cabal of shady billionaires who are behind miserable new world order.

I'm probably more minded like you, to be cautiously optimistic.
Let me phrase it another way, we've had various scandals covered by docu-dramas.
Most recently the Post Office/Horizon one, and water pollution.
C4 has been forthright in slamming these institutional failures in their brilliant exposes.
Can we really ever see them covering Tavistock as a scandal, and the ongoing dissonance with reality of the likes of the NHS and schools, and so much blowback to Cass and the SC ruling?

I truly think we're not coming back from all this.
Not that women won't more and more claw their rights back, no, the law is clear now, and the ones deliberately misinforming are shown up.
I mean what I see as an irreparable break in trust between citizens, in this case women by and large, and institutions that profess to follow the law, best practices, science and common sense.
Talking NHS, schools, academia, media (looking at you, BBC), politicians (especially on the left).
Reality bites, but the hangover from 15 years of institutional capture seems impossible to shift.
The verdict on the Tavistock, the Cass Report, the SC ruling, these all should have totally rebooted and reset institutions. Instead it meant they bunkered down.
Women have won with every subsequent decision, yet institutions refuse to fess up, to take their heads out of the sand.
The nearest thing to a civil war we in the West will ever experience.

Every day that goes past, the distance between viewpoints and people increases.
And the more the middle doesn't exist anymore.
