Definite parallels here. All kinds of dirty tricks being played to try and shut down discussion on FWR, up to and including posting CSA images in an attempt to discredit/shut down MN.

He would have been bored with the site (and probably stepped away from it) years ago without all the attacks to shut it down. Thankfully, he's a stubborn bugger. It's interesting what he has developed simply because he won't back down to bullies.

Good point. My mind didn't go to such dark places and I was thinking mostly in terms of political views which is wider than you'll find in most places online these days which are almost always echo chambers of one kind of another. But yes, child abuse, animal abuse, I don't know if you'd actually be banned for talking about them, but you wouldn't have a happy time there.

On that note, one of the most reprehensible tactics some have used to try and shut down the Farms is the posting of child porn some people have tried to do. Null has actually developed his own software to pre-emptively identify this stuff and report it and made that and some of the other software he has developed available to other site owners. He's also come up with a quite innovative way to do site registrations that preserves anonymity whilst preventing mass sign-ups for purposes of abuse. He had a very interesting thread on it a while back.

@Fruityful No - when you go to donate it asks for the amount in US dollars. Some people have cards that dont charge a fee for dollar transactions but some do. Also means you need to think about exchange rates when deciding what to give. I've donated to fundraisers in other currencies before and one resulted in questions from the fraud team! It wasnt a massive donation but I guess they suspected that the next such payment would be bigger.

They have helped to identify some awful animal abusers, including people who have tortured monkeys and dogs. This has led to convictions.

That's only the denomination used to show the earnings by Give Send Go. You can contribute from anywhere, it just gets converted in their total. If you visit the site, Null has put up a big banner linking to the thread about the lawsuit. I'd drop the link to the fundraiser here for those interested but I understand that's against policy. Still, a simple search for "defendthefarms" and Give Send Go should turn it up.

Note, that's different to the site fund raising. The GSG is specifically ring-faced for legal defence. And yes, it's very similar in principle to the Afroman case. The Kiwi Farms action might have some very interesting positive effect generally in helping shut down spurious misuse of copyright law in the future. Laws designed to prevent people ripping off music and movie pirating, are being used to shut down criticism by people trying to copyright their face! Madness, but it costs money to defend yourself which is what people like Liz Fong-Jones are relying on.

The fundraiser has reached $100,000 in three days. I'm sure more will help but it's an amazing achievement.

@Bosky You're absolutely right that Farms users would align with Afroman on this. Because he's in the right and it's funny. That doesn't mean there aren't actual racists on the Farms, there totally are. But what the Farms is, is a place where you can say what you like and occasionally if the noise gets loud enough, Null will appear and slap a few heads together until he can get back to whatever else he was doing but mostly if you can stand your ground, that's all that matters. Every possible viewpoint can be found on the Farms. Though pro-Trans would probably get you mocked beyond belief.

So, I just had a look at the Fong-Jones thread, and the farmers are supportive of Afroman, who has an upcoming case that is similar to the one that Fong-Jones has launched against the farms. I know nothing of this, but someone had helpfully explained it and linked the song and a video about the situation. Afroman's case will apparently begin in a few days, the whole mess has been going on for 3 years.

I had always thought that Chris' name was 'Christ in apple', a sort of alternative to 'Christ in toast' (see pic attached). Then I found out that the imagery of Jesus as an apple tree is a real thing (see other pic). I think there is even a hymn with the theme.

I thought that calling the poster 'Christ' was going a bit far, so I used 'Chris'.

The only time I hear about the site is on mumsnet. I like the idea of a site that will take the piss out of anybody being an idiot regardless of which special group they belong to but have never made the effort to find it. So is there a way non users of the site can contribute to their fight or would I actually need to go look for it?
