Does this new word puzzle make sense to first-time players?

I've made a little word puzzle – would love to know what people think
I've been working on a word puzzle called InferIt, which I've been playing with friends and family. It's a bit like Wordle, except instead of telling you which letters are green/yellow, it gives you numbers and you have to work out what they mean.

Sorry OP I have absolutely no idea on what I'm supposed to do. I play Wordle, Worgle and Triplit every day btw..

The hint isn’t working and the letters don’t seem to form a word? I like the concept. Maybe I’ll try another one

The hints are a bit complicated to understand. I've hit a wall now and cant work out anymore. I did the first 20 puzzles though. Maybe I'm just tired.

I'm not even going to click the link because I know from your description I would just be confused. Numbers have no place in word games!

I like it. Got the first answer easily. I'm normally good at words games but I'm struggling with the second. Only 98 to go after this 🤣 I'm also very tired if I can claim an excuse 🤭

Anyway I gave in and used the hint function which wasn't helpful because it told me what was obvious on the main board. That felt a little frustrating. I hope that's helpful feedback.

All that said, I think you should try sell it to the NY Times for a million.

Love it. Took me a couple of reads to get the rules. Play hardle every day and like the idea of a more challenging wordle.

My son enjoyed it too. He launched into playing in a different way from me - using the colour blocks to instantly clear a load of letters.

I've just used a hint again and I really don't think they add anything, sorry. But I do really like the game.

My issue was not being able to type in the letters. In the guided puzzle you need to make clear you need to touch and drag.

Also the colours could pop up with a reminder of what they mean if you hold them maybe? Or the colours are arranged differently with writing next to them.

Agree with all this. Took me ages to realise I was supposed to drag or highlight and tap

I really like it! I found it a bit complicated at first, but have played yesterday and today’s daily puzzles and think I’ve got the hang of it now. It’s more challenging than some of the word games I play, which is good.

No, you cannot. You need to click on a box and then click on the letter (from one of the places it appears in the list of words) and it will drop down.

I'm sure it is a good puzzle, but I gave up as a result of the written instructions on the first page. They don't make sense on their own.
Right from the strapline (which should be a hook, getting the reader to stay on the page) they are a source of confusion - "Every row is a five-letter guess. Its two fixed counts describe the same hidden answer." What???

I'm sure that the instructions start to make sense after you have played a couple of rounds. But as a standalone, they fail.

On that first page, you need something that tempts people to play, not something that is more complicated than the game itself, which written instructions often are.

Could you replace them with an animation showing a game being played, perhaps with voiceover explanation?

I'm doing the guided clue - I know what the answer is but I can't work out what I'm supposed to do to get through the stages or how you're supposed to correctly enter the letters.

There's a puzzle called WordAll which is a bit similar but more straightforward.

having had a go it looks like a mix of mastermind and wordle but I cannot for the life of me work out what the instructions mean.
