There’s a special sort of optimism involved in taking a toddler to the beach. Expectation: joyful sandcastle-making, first paddles and wide-eyed wonderment at rockpools. Reality: sand everywhere, refusal to wear suncream/ nap/ come out of the sea despite lips turning blue, and, of course, the new and unwelcome challenge of changing a nappy on a beach.

Still, choose well and a beach holiday with a toddler can be genuinely lovely. The trick is to book somewhere that removes as much admin as possible: short flights, sensible transfers, shaded spots, shallow pools, food on tap, somewhere cool for naps and built-in childcare if you want an hour to read more than three sentences in a row.

Best toddler-friendly TUI beach holidays at a glance

TUI has a strong family holiday set-up across TUI BLUE, Sensatori by TUI BLUE and Holiday Village resorts. We’ve chosen a selection of beach-first hotels that make it easy for you to include all the important parts of your toddler’s day-to-day routine - from snacks to naps and even potty training - without losing the magic of the holiday itself.

Before booking, be sure to check the latest hotel page for seasonal opening dates, childcare availability and what needs pre-booking. Baby and toddler services can change by season, and the best creche slots can fill up fast.

Best for classic toddler beach holiday

TUI BLUE Alcudia Pins, Mallorca

Pros
  • Direct access to the fine sandy beach at Playa de Muro

  • Baby & Tots Club, Baby Lounge and free kids' clubs from age three

  • Seven pools, including a shaded baby pool and splash areas

  • Apartment-style rooms and several restaurants, including beachfront options

  • Parent & Toddler Swim sessions in high season

Cons
  • The transfer from Palma Airport is around 90 minutes by coach

  • Beach sunloungers and parasols are run by a third party and may cost extra

  • It is a large, busy family resort, so it will not feel boutique or quiet in peak season

Key info

Flight time from UK: Approx. 2 hours 15 minutes | Transfer time: Around 90 minutes | Beach: Direct access to a fine sandy beach in Playa de Muro, with a large bay and shallow paddling-friendly shoreline | Pools and water play: Seven pools, including a shaded baby pool, children's pools and splash areas | Creche/kids' club: Free kids' clubs for ages 3-12, paid Baby & Tots Club for ages 0-2, paid evening baby sessions

Alcudia Pins Tui Blue - we had a 2 bed apartment but AI though didnt use the sofa bed in the lounge. Right on a gorgeous beach, excellent and somehow only a 3+ star though Tui now say 4 star.

Our verdict

If we’re choosing purely on toddler beach practicality, TUI BLUE Alcudia Pins earns its place at the top. The beach is just steps away from the resort and is about as toddler friendly as they come, the on-site pools are fantastic and there are kids’ clubs on-hand to give parents the option of a genuine break (though bear in mind if your little one is two or under, there is a fee attached).
Playa de Muro beach features a wide stretch of golden-white sand and shallow, turquoise waters, perfect for little ones taking their first paddle. The resort itself also offers an impressive choice of seven pools including a dedicated, shaded baby pool, a kids’ pool with water slide and a splash park so there’s plenty to keep your little ones busy if they don’t fancy a day on the beach.

The 90-minute transfer is the main trade-off, but once you arrive, very little feels like hard work.

2

Best for a speedy transfer

TUI BLUE Tropical, Turkey

Pros
  • Around 20 minutes from Dalaman Airport

  • Direct access to the hotel's own Blue Flag beach in Sarigerme Bay

  • Six pools, including a baby pool and children's pools with slides

  • Baby Lounge, paid Baby & Tots Club and free kids' clubs from age three

  • All-inclusive food, highchairs and plenty of space for buggy naps and snack stops

Cons
  • The beach has sand, shingle and rocky patches, so water shoes can be useful

  • It is a big, busy resort with lots going on

  • Turkey can be very hot in July and August, so shade and nap timing matter

Key info

Flight time from UK: Approx. 4 hours | Transfer time: Around 20 minutes | Beach: Direct access to the hotel's own Blue Flag beach in Sarigerme Bay, with sand, shingle and rocky patches | Pools and water play: Six pools, including a baby pool, children's pools and slide features | Creche/kids' club: Free kids' clubs for ages 3-12, paid Baby & Tots Club for ages 0-2, Baby Lounge and baby equipment available

Our verdict

For parents who dread the post-flight transfer more than the flight itself, TUI BLUE Tropical is hard to beat. Dalaman Airport is around 20 minutes away, so you can be at the resort before the toddler snack supply has been fully exhausted.

Besides the super short transfer, the beach is the main selling point for young families. The hotel sits directly on Sarigerme Bay, with its own Blue Flag stretch and the sea practically part of the resort. It is not the softest beach on the list - TUI BLUE describes sand, shingle and rocky sections - but that direct access still makes life easier when your beach trip lasts 32 minutes and ends with someone needing a nap.

Back at base, there are six pools, including baby and children's pools, plus a Baby Lounge, paid Baby & Tots Club and all-inclusive food. It is a big, lively resort, so not the one if you want total quiet, but for a beach holiday with minimal transfer faff it’s a worthy contender.

3

Best for year-round toddler beach weather

TUI BLUE Flamingo Beach, Lanzarote

Pros
  • Directly by Playa Flamingo, a sandy beach with calm, sheltered water

  • Around 35 minutes from Lanzarote Airport

  • Baby Lounge, paid Baby & Tots Club and free kids' clubs from age three

  • Eight pools, including baby pools and some heated winter pools

  • Apartment-style rooms and a promenade location for buggy walks

Cons
  • The flight is longer than Majorca, Ibiza and Halkidiki

  • Lanzarote can be windy, so beach days may need a plan B

  • Beach sunloungers and parasols are run by a third party and may cost extra

Key info

Flight time from UK: Approx. 4 hours 15 minutes | Transfer time: Around 35 minutes | Beach: Directly by Playa Flamingo, a public sandy beach with a promenade and sheltered, paddling-friendly water | Pools and water play: Eight pools, including baby pools, children's pools, a small aqua park and some heated winter pools | Creche/kids' club: Free kids' clubs for ages 3-12, paid Baby & Tots Club for ages 0-2, paid evening baby sessions and free Stay & Play

Our verdict

TUI BLUE Flamingo Beach is one of those reliable resorts which promises to give families a proper beach holiday outside the short Mediterranean summer. If you’re taking advantage of cheaper travelling seasons before being bound by school holidays, Lanzarote's warm, steady year-round climate is usually a safe bet for good beach days even in winter.

The resort is right by Playa Flamingo, a sandy beach backed by a promenade and protected by breakwaters, which helps keep the water calmer than a lot of open Atlantic beaches. That matters with toddlers: you can do short paddles, safe sand sessions and quick returns to the room without turning the day into an expedition.

There’s also plenty to fall back on if the wind picks up, with eight pools, baby pools, some winter-heated pools and a small aqua park, plus Baby & Tots Club and Stay & Play sessions. The longer flight is the trade-off, but if you want a beach break without the peak crowds and prices of the summer holidays, this one makes a lot of sense.

4

Best all-round toddler set-up

TUI BLUE Lagoon Princess, Halkidiki

Pros
  • Sandy beach around 50m from the resort

  • Baby Lounge, paid Baby & Tots Club and free kids' clubs from age three

  • Five pools, including a baby pool and a fun pool with slides and spray features

  • Parent & Toddler Swim and First Kicks football sessions for little ones

  • Free beach loungers, parasols and towels listed by TUI BLUE

Cons
  • The location is calm rather than buzzy

  • Baby & Tots Club, evening care and swim school sessions are paid extras

  • Some activities need advance booking

Key info

Flight time from UK: Approx. 3 hours | Transfer time: Around 45 minutes | Beach: Sandy beach around 50m away, with gently sloping water and free loungers, parasols and towels | Pools and water play: Five pools, including a baby pool, family pools and a fun pool with slides and spray features | Creche/kids' club: Free kids' clubs from age three, paid Baby & Tots Club for ages 0-2, paid evening baby sessions and Baby Lounge

Our verdict

If you want the simplest possible toddler-holiday equation - beach close by, baby pool close by, food close by, childcare close by - TUI BLUE Lagoon Princess is the one to beat. It’s polished and family-focused without feeling like a theme park.

The beach is a major part of the appeal. It’s sandy, gently sloping and around 50m from the resort, so you can manage a pre-nap paddle or a late-afternoon sandcastle session without committing the entire day to carrying half the room down to the shore. Free loungers, parasols and towels are also a helpful feature.

The resort has plenty of back-up when the beach window closes: five pools, including a baby pool and slide-and-spray fun pool, plus Parent & Toddler Swim, First Kicks and a Baby Lounge. There are also swim-up rooms available, giving parents the option to relax on the terrace while their little one takes a nap inside.

5

Best for a first Ibiza family break

TUI BLUE Aura, Ibiza

Pros
  • Short flight from the UK and an airport around 19km from the resort

  • Sandy, gently shelving public beach around 200m away

  • Baby Lounge, paid Baby & Tots Club and free kids' clubs from age three

  • Waterpark next door with slides, fountains and a pirate-themed play zone

  • Sensory room, SEN sessions at selected times and Parent & Toddler Swim in season

Cons
  • The beach is public and sunloungers or parasols may cost extra

  • The waterpark is a big draw, so expect it to be busier in school holidays

  • Baby equipment may need to be requested or pre-booked, with some items for a fee

Key info

Flight time from UK: Approx. 2 hours 15 minutes | Transfer time: Around 30 minutes | Beach: Sandy, natural, gently shelving public beach around 200m away | Pools and water play: Resort pools plus access to the waterpark next door | Creche/kids' club: Free kids' clubs for ages 3-12, paid Baby & Tots Club for ages 0-2, paid evening baby sessions and Baby Lounge

Yes! The beach is beautiful and sunset swims were stunning. Like PP it's a trek to the old town (which is fabulous) or anything else but for a family hotel based holiday it ticks a lot of boxes. I preferred Tropical.

Our verdict

Ibiza doesn’t have to mean neon clubs and late nights. TUI BLUE Aura sits in the quieter Port d'es Torrent area, giving families a short flight, a manageable transfer and a proper sandy beach without asking you to give up on the fun bits of the island entirely.

The beach is around 200m away rather than directly under your balcony, but it earns its place because it is sandy, natural and gently shelving. For toddlers, that means less drama getting in and out of the water and an easy enough walk back for lunch, shade and naps.

The resort back-up is strong too. There is a Baby Lounge, paid Baby & Tots Club, free kids' clubs from age three and a waterpark next door with fountains and a pirate-themed play zone. It will not be the quietest option in school holidays, but for a first family Ibiza trip with toddler-friendly beach time built in, it’s a great option.

6

Best premium all-inclusive

TUI BLUE Sensatori Akra Fethiye, Turkey

Pros
  • Direct beach location on a long sandy-and-shingle Blue Flag beach

  • Around 60 minutes from Dalaman Airport

  • Six pools, including family pools and waterpark features

  • Baby & Tots Club, free kids' club from age three and teen activities in July and August

  • Free baby equipment listed by TUI BLUE, including cots, bottle warmers, baby monitors, highchairs and strollers

Cons
  • The beach has fine sand and gravel and isn't suitable for strollers

  • Baby & Tots Club and evening baby sessions are paid extras

  • It is not the best choice if you want to wander into town with a buggy every evening

Key info

Flight time from UK: Approx. 4 hours | Transfer time: Around 60 minutes | Beach: Direct access to a Blue Flag fine sandy-and-gravel beach; not suitable for strollers, but with a free shuttle to the beach | Pools and water play: Six pools, including family pools and waterpark features | Creche/kids' club: Free kids' club for ages 3-12, paid Baby & Tots Club for ages 0-2, paid evening sessions and free baby equipment

Our verdict

This is the one to choose when you want toddler practicalities without sacrificing the grown-up side of the holiday. The all-inclusive set-up is slick, the baby equipment list is reassuringly long and there’s enough going on to suit families with older kids as well as little ones.

The beach is beautiful and directly accessible from the resort, with a long Blue Flag stretch and plenty of loungers, parasols and towels. The toddler caveat is that it’s fine sand and gravel rather than bucket-and-spade powder, and TUI BLUE says it is not suitable for strollers, so you’ll need to plan accordingly.

If your toddler is happy pottering between pool, beach and buffet, Akra Fethiye can feel very easy once you arrive. The 60-minute transfer and less buggy-friendly shore stop it from being the most obvious toddler beach pick, but for a more premium all-inclusive with proper beach access, it still earns its spot.

7

Best for active families

Holiday Village AQI Skanes Resort, Tunisia

Pros
  • Beachfront Holiday Village set-up with white-sand coast and easy beach access

  • HV Creche for babies and toddlers, plus kids' clubs for older children

  • Toddler splash park, small baby pool and larger activity and relax pools

  • Strong activity programme, including water-based sessions and family entertainment

  • Shorter flight than many winter-sun or guaranteed-sun beach options

Cons
  • Sun loungers can be very popular in peak season

  • Activities are first come, first served and the best sessions can fill quickly

  • It is lively and activity-led, so families wanting a quiet boutique feel may prefer elsewhere

Key info

Flight time from UK: Approx. 3 - 3.5 hours | Transfer time: Around 1 hour | Beach: Directly attached to the hotel, with a white-sand coast and a guest lounger area | Pools and water play: Two main pools, plus a toddler splash park, small baby pool and winter indoor pool | Creche/kids' club: HV Creche for children up to 35 months, HV Club from age three, HV Crew and The Zone for older children

Reviewed by Mumsnet editor Jenny Wonnacott: Read our in-depth TUI AQI Skanes Holiday Village review

Holiday Village AQI Skanes is a strong choice if your toddler is the sort who wakes up ready to do 14 things before breakfast. The beach is directly accessible, the pool scene is brilliant, and the Holiday Village childcare and entertainment mean there’s plenty to keep the whole family happy.

The beach is a genuine selling point, not just a tick in the facilities list, it’s directly attached to the hotel, with a white-sand coast and a wide area for hotel guests, so you can move between beach, pool, bar and room without the day turning into a logistical puzzle. There’s gentle walkway leading down to the beach which is suitable for buggies, though the sand itself is best navigated without wheels. The shoreline is shallow and gentle, ideal for little ones, and there are loungers and parasols for TUI guests - though these can get busy during peak times.

This is not a quiet retreat, particularly during school holidays. Sun loungers and activities can be popular, and the whole resort is built around family energy. But for toddlers who like water, sand, snacks and a bit of organised chaos, it is one of the most practical beach-holiday options on the list, and pretty reasonably priced too.

Top Mumsnetter tips for travelling with toddlers

Make sure you have plenty of non perishable snacks at all times. Toddlers waiting for food at restaurants are always tricky. Sunhat. Don't forget the swim nappies like we did! Pack calpol and sudocream, its surprising how often we've needed this while away.

-Barleysugar86

When dd was younger dh and I took it in turns to look after her (in 45 minutes/hour chunks) and the other would go and find somewhere quiet to relax/ swim. We’d do this once in morning and once in afternoon then she would nap for a few hours so we’d relax then.

-indoorplantqueen

Take some sort of big rucksack or pram bag so you can have beach stuff ready to go and make sure you can carry it and him simultaneously if possible.

-LividBoo

Talc for removing sand at the beach. A couple of all in one UV suits to reduce the need for suncream. Name stickers on toys for around the pool.

What should I look for in a toddler-friendly beach resort?

Prioritise the unglamorous things first: short transfers, shade, toddler-friendly pools, a beach you can reach quickly, ideally with toddler-friendly features like shallow water and soft sand, food available outside strict mealtimes and a room set-up that works for naps. A beautiful beach is lovely. A beautiful beach 25 minutes away with no easy access for strollers, choppy  waters and no shade? Not so much.

Can toddlers use TUI kids' clubs?

It depends on the resort and the child's age. Selected TUI BLUE and Sensatori by TUI BLUE hotels offer Baby & Tots Club or BabyClub-style childcare for little ones up to 36 months, usually for a fee. Holiday Villages offer HV Creche for children up to 35 months. Standard kids' clubs usually start from age three. Always check the individual hotel page and pre-book where possible.

Are TUI transfers included?

TUI says many package holidays include flights, luggage, transfers and accommodation, and TUI All Inclusive holidays include airport transfers. Do still check the individual deal before you book, especially if you are flying with a partner airline or booking a more flexible package. Private taxi upgrades are available on many holidays and can be worth it with toddlers, late flights or very long coach routes.

Is all-inclusive worth it with a toddler?

Usually, yes. Not because toddlers are gourmands - though yours may be doing interesting work with cucumber and ketchup - but because all-inclusive takes pressure off the day. Snacks, drinks, ice cream, early dinners and buffet back-up can make the difference between a manageable holiday and a daily restaurant negotiation.

Should I choose a resort with a creche?

If you want proper adult downtime, yes. A creche or Baby & Tots Club gives you the option of a swim, spa treatment, long lunch or nap without a small person attached to you. If you are happy doing everything together, stay-and-play toddler sessions and parent-and-toddler swim may be enough. Either way, check ages, fees, booking windows and session times before you travel.

What should I pack for a beach holiday with a toddler?

Think shade, snacks and speed. A pop-up shade or UV tent, rash vests, swim nappies, water shoes, a lightweight buggy, a small medical kit, familiar bedtime bits and more snacks than seems reasonable will all earn their place. If the resort offers cots, bottle warmers, sterilisers or strollers, book them early and get confirmation before you fly.
