People behind the pro-trans advert funded museum to glorify rape and murder of women

I posted this in a thread but I wondered if people have read the Private Eye piece about Linda Riley, the 'publisher' of Diva Magazine? She is the Labour LGBTQ advisor and also organised the Metro advert.

The Eye exposed some rather complicated corporate moves including lending almost £1m to fund a museum about Jack the Ripper- that got planning permission originally to be a museum about the history of the women's movement.

I read the article you posted - it’s obvious there’s a serious gravy train packed by cronies isn’t it? The Jack the Ripper thing I found so, so odd. I’d be very interested in learning more about why that was funded.

It is very interesting to see how much money is sloshing around though. It'd be very interesting if someone started joining all of the dots.

I know nothing about this but I do remember hearing about some sort of display/ museum honouring and focussing on the lives of those women rather than their deaths? Including the POV what life was like then. Though as I type I can't see how you can separate it. Is this the same thing or another one?

Fuck that is really quite disturbing. The musuem does nothing to honour the victims or their lives. It has a murder scene, a gentleman's sitting room, mortuary and police station mock ups. Just glorifies (and fetishes even) the murders.

Its just cynical exploitation. They sell Jack the Ripper pencil toppers and fridge magnets FFS. Fancy a Ripperologist coaster anyone?

It comes off as a veiled dig at feminists to be honest. though that might sound a tad paranoid and could also be coincidence you can't help thinking, really? So it was going to be a museum dedicated to feminism and instead it turns into a museum dedicated to the mutilation and fetishization of gruesome deaths of women.

44 women were found murdered horrifically in the period the 5 women who were claimed to be Jack the Ripper’s victims were killed. The people that study the murders talk about the “canonical” murders.
The letters that were supposed to be written by Jack to the press were a hoax. It’s entirely possible that Jack never existed, that he was invented by the press and the police.
Having a bogey man like Jack lets us pretend that violence against women is perpetrated by weirdo crazies, and their victims were just unfortunate to be in the wrong place- instead of common and systemic. 44 women murdered by Not Jack the Ripper. Strangers, husbands, clients, partners?
It’s a gruesome whitewashing of the historical violence against women.
