Transexual people are rejecting 'transgender'

There is a new twitter hashtag #tsraincrew for transexual people who feel that the push for self ID is very damaging. They are speaking up against self ID transactivists. There seems to be a decent take up.

Brilliant. Will start following.

R0wantrees · 15/04/2018 01:53

really powerful words here: twitter.com/seven_hex/status/985219754540625921

Hackedoffwoman · 15/04/2018 01:59

I wish them well, they'll have a tough fight getting out from that "umbrella".

Ekphrasis · 15/04/2018 07:13

Wow, seven hex is bloody amazing.

sapphireflower · 15/04/2018 07:30

Great!

MrsUnderwood · 15/04/2018 08:32

I really want the media to pick up on this schism in the trans community. I think most people regard “trans” as meaning gender dysphoric transsexuals. Reporting on their rejection of the trans umbrella and the reasons why would go a long way to dispel that particular myth and prompt for more sane discussions around self ID

picklemepopcorn · 15/04/2018 08:42

Absolutely. And quite a few people seem to approve.

TallulahWaitingInTheRain · 15/04/2018 08:56

Women and a significant number of transsexuals saying together 'this isn't safe for any of us' would be very hard to argue with

borntobequiet · 15/04/2018 08:57

Well done them. I have always been impressed by @jayceedove, @yetanothertranswoman, @truscum and any other trans people who post on here detailing their experiences, articulating their concerns and supporting women. I hope that when this madness subsides they, and all the rest of us, can go back to living our lives peacefully and respecting of others’ reasonable wishes and needs.

yetanothertranswoman · 15/04/2018 09:00

I have begun sticking my head more above the parapet - but I do really worry when I do that. Never had so many notifications.

borntobequiet · 15/04/2018 09:08

Don’t do Flowers often, yet, but here you are.

yetanothertranswoman · 15/04/2018 09:10

Personally, I worry where all this is going.

There seems to have been a real head of steam recently.

Pratchet · 15/04/2018 09:30

What do you mean, yet another?

The rhetoric, the articles, media discussions are making trans people, trans issues etc much more visible - and I worry there's an impression of trans people being formed by people who may not know any trans people but assume we all have these views and attitudes.

I've noticed a lot lot more articles recently.

SwearyG · 15/04/2018 09:41

@borntobequiet I would be slightly more circumspect about who you respect for supporting women. I was spoken about in really dehumanising terms on another site by one of the TIMs you mention. They certainly don’t respect women.

NotTerfNorCis · 15/04/2018 09:41

There's a lot of experimentation with 'gender' and the use of 'gender' as a kind of adolescent identity that has got confused with genuine transsexuals. Apparently there are scores of genders and a person can have multiple genders at the same time. I used to ignore it as kids' stuff, but it started forcing its way into the mainstream in 2016.

Pratchet · 15/04/2018 09:47

Yes I think transexual people will be caught up in the backlash and that #tsraincrew may help alleviate that. Already feminists are being blamed - the only people to have actually raised the alarm first, years and years ago. I also think lesbians and gay men will be caught up in a backlash. People don't understand.

As we've all been saying on here for months and months - the backlash extremist transactivists are going to create is likely to be extremely unpleasant. It won't distinguish between "good trans" and "bad TRA". Moreover, it will be bad for the LGB as well as the T since the LGBT orgs have all gone hell for leather for hardline TRA. Moreover again, it will be bad for women because it won't distinguish between pro-TRA libfems and the radfems.

At that point, most of the middle class students and commentators supporting this will just move on to the next cause, completely unscathed, while the rest of us are chucked under the bus. Pisses me right off.

Pratchet · 15/04/2018 10:13

Agree Lang. The Owen Jones's will get off scot free. In the end, women will be blamed the most, even while they're caring for the damaged children.

OP posts:
BiddydeBint · 15/04/2018 10:49

LangCleg I couldn't agree more.

TheGoldenBough · 15/04/2018 11:02

Sadly, I think you're right and I agree with Lang.

Greymisty · 15/04/2018 11:13

Maybe if the hashtag is sustained it could link up with the likes of WPUK etc and set up a related sibling group concentrating on trans people who aren't keen on self id.

LangCleg · 15/04/2018 11:13

I was showing my dad all the stuff about the Hyde Park corner trial yesterday and he made a good point - there is nothing more guaranteed to rile up the British public than a load of black bloc types popping up on the TV. Whatever the black bloc is opposing - righteous or not - gets completely forgotten because people hate them so much. He's right.

And if I were a trans person, quietly living my life, I would not appreciate black bloc-ers assuming they're speaking for me and being associated with me.

The masks and whatnot are not a good idea.

Viago · 15/04/2018 11:20

Lang could you expand on the black bloc group - are those are the masked ones outside after Maria's trial? Do they often turn up to things like that? Sorry really not involved in activism and protests, so I don't know all the terms/typical people.

OnTheList · 15/04/2018 11:23

I know 3 transsexual people, and they never used the term transgender anyway. It was one of them who first brought to my attention that blokes with a fetish were classed as the same as transsexual people under the umbrella actually..
