Not sure it's meant to be hilarious -- but can't help but lolling time and again when I'm not shocked and also amazed to discover that one in five women was in the sex industry?!?!? Is anyone else watching this?

MusicToMyEars800 Thu 30-Mar-17 23:47:42

not watching but want to, is it any good? what channel Is it on? and when?

I wanted to see it but it's on a weird ITV channel that's not on virgin. I need to check the catch up services

it's a funny hybrid of romp and depressing vignettes of 18th century georgian women's life. Might get better, Samantha Morton's a good actress so I'll watch the second. It is on ITV catch up.

I'll watch it on catch up, the adverts make it look like it's about a brothel?

NoLotteryWinYet Fri 31-Mar-17 22:56:37

Oh yes definitely all about different kinds of prostitution as far as I can tell. It's got some good historical researchers behind it but it is a strange hybrid of drama and cultural history

MusicToMyEars800 Fri 31-Mar-17 23:06:15

my interest was piqued when I saw the adverts for it and thought it looked good, so I will definitely give it a watch grin

Realised I've described prostitution as cultural history - hmmmm. Brain can't decide if that's culture or not!

Apparently it's very accurate, done from the women's perspective, and not a "happy hooker" whitewash

I haven't seen it yet, but I will be watching it

Aridane Sat 08-Apr-17 19:52:21

I don't know - thought it was a bit happy hooker.

Though stunned that 1 in5 women worked in the sex industry. 1 in 5 women??? (Or 1 in 5 working women?)

BeyondUser24601 Sat 08-Apr-17 20:03:43

I've seen a few episodes now. It is a bit happy hooker, you're right - more so than I was expecting from the review I saw. But there is still quite a bit of realism, so I don't think I'm disappointed.
I imagine a truly realistic portrayal wouldn't make for very good telly sad

BeyondUser24601 Sat 08-Apr-17 20:05:21

I do like the music they use smile

Aridane Sun 16-Apr-17 19:47:08

Yes, music is very eerie and atmospheric and sort of jittery
