Baby carrier with good abs and lower back support- Baby Bjorn no good

I've been using a Baby Bjorn carrier but am becoming very sore after using it for only a few hours. Has anyone else experienced this with Baby Bjorns?

I have an 8 wk old who weighs around 11llbs. I have a large separation in my stomach muscles/abs following birth. This causes a lot of pain and someone even told me carriers are a no no now :(. I'd like to get a baby carrier that will last/be able to use for as long as possible. Spent a lot n the Baby Bjorn so anxious about making another mistake that I can't afford. Does anyone have any tips?

Get an Ergo sling. Baby bjorn is rubbish for you & baby.

Ergo (although be very careful, its easier to buy a fake than a real one!)

Boba
Any of those, perhaps see if you have a local sling meet and try a few, they all fit differently and what is comfy for one person could be horrific for another, there will be one for you, i can still comfortably and easily carry my 2 year olds :)

Thank you! Is there a particular model that is good. I also have a two year old, could I get one that would work for both? I just need to get the weight distribution right. I really enjoy baby wearing and used the baby bjorn the entire time with me first. Really suffered using it though so want to make sure I get it right this time.
There's no sling meet near me, is there one that sticks out as the best?

I loved my Moby and was still using it occasionally when DS was 6 months, would probably have gone longer but he likes his space.

I also had a Mei Tai which was also fab, especially when he got a bit bigger. Great weight distribution.

I use a boba 3G. It's the best purchase I've ever made.

DS2 is 21 weeks ish and weighs around 20lbs and I carry him with ease. I also have a 2 year old who sometimes goes in it. my four year old went in it the other day too and I've no idea what she weighs!

If ther is no sling meet, watch the videos of how to put each on on YouTube. V helpful in getting a good idea of what the sling can do.

An eight week old isn't the ideal age for buckle carriers like the Ergo, Manduca, Boba etc. They have an integral or separate insert for newborns, and can be used without from about 5 months +. The problem is that inbetween those ages, and usually from about 10 weeks to 4 months, the baby is often too big for the insert and too small to go in without. You can fudge it to make it work, but it isn't always the best choice.

The Ergo insert for small babies is really hot and I wouldn't recommend for summer, if we ever get one.

That said, the Ergo, Manduca, Boba 3g etc will last well and will work for your 2 year old too.

Are you in the UK? There are a lot of new sling meets and libraries so it's worth being sure you're not near one www.babywearing.co.uk/localsupport to search by postcode, and google UK Sling Libraries Network too.

Other possibilities - get a stretchy wrap for the next 3-4 months until your little one is big enough to fit correctly in a buckle carrier like those mentioned above. Adjustable mei tais like the Hop Tye would also be a good choice.

The Boba 3G doesn't need an infant insert it can be used from birth.
My DS2 was 7lbs 13 when he was born and I used it from newborn. I think 7lbs is the lowest recommended weight

It's true the Boba doesn't need an insert from newborn, I just don't really rate it as a newborn/small baby carrier. It doesn't fit nearly as well as a wrap etc. And still has the 'inbetween stage' problem where the baby is too small to be in the newborn format and not big enough to be in it fully extended.

A Moby or Kari-Me now and an Ergo at 6 months.

I totally agree with goofy, there are lots of fake Ergo slings out there. Use manduca baby sling or manduca baby carriers as they are highly recommendable due to their comfort.

I have ergo, manduca and moby - manduca has my main vote, especially as it has a built in newborn insert, saving a lot of money vs the ergo. The one disadvantage of the Manduca vs the ergo for me is that it is a bit fiddlier to adjust - makes it very comfortable if it is just you wearing it, but a pain to share with OH!

Mei Tais and soft wraps like the moby can be great, but won't offer you the level of support of a structured carrier like the ergo or manduca, and won't be as good in the long term with a larger baby/child.
