Really needed to share this after my experience with them on Monday evening. I decided to opt for the new NIFTY test following my previous pregnancy 5 years ago. During that pregnancy it was picked up at my 12 week scan (done at 13 weeks) that the nuchal measurement was 9mm so something was clearly wrong. Following an immediate amnio, test results confirmed that I was carrying a little girl with Down Syndrome. Following genetic counselling we decided we wanted to continue with the pregnancy but a further test revealed that she was hydropic and would die during pregnancy or after birth. It was a very traumatic time and the memories haunt me of ending her life. It wasn't my decision to make and I wanted God or nature to end it. To be fair to all, to her, to us, hospital staff, resources and my 9 month old daughter we did end her life and I gave birth to her following an induction.

So, this time, despite the outpouring of grief during my booking and not being offered anything other than the normal 12 week scan, I got online and booked a NIFTY test. The midwives I spoke to in Cornwall and Devon had never heard of this particular test which I was pretty surprised about and when I turned up for my appointment at 6pm in Cardiff and the doors were locked with no sign of life I thought I'd been conned out of £300. When a man and woman arrived at 6.15, unlocked, turned on all the lights and took me through for a scan I still thought this was very odd!! The chap immediately told me the nuchal measurement was 0.79 and said it looked like a perfectly healthy baby, printed of some stats and then sent me off with the lady for bloods!! They were both very nice but I still wasn't quite sure if this was part of the scam!! Googling him on the way home I found he's a very highly acclaimed obstetrician and a pioneer in fetal medicine!!!! I couldn't believe I'd just been scanned by such an expert and it massively put my mind at rest, he obviously knew what he was talking about just by looking at the scan. So, despite having to wait 2 weeks for the results of the baby's DNA from my blood, he has lifted the cloud hanging over me and I can start to enjoy this pregnancy. I would thoroughly recommend to anyone affected in the same way.

I had NIFTY at this clinic and also had a good experience. I think they tell you to expect results in 3 weeks, but ours came back a little earlier.

Sounds a good clinic - but odd only 2 of them there though! Maybe because it was 'out of hours'? What was his name?

Another one here who had the NIFTY at this clinic. Clinic definitely above board and the obstetrician is indeed very highly regarded. I found them very efficient - test results back in just under 2 weeks - and the test is way cheaper than the Harmony.

squiaita Brian Beattie was the consultant. Google him, lots of good stuff about him on the net. He told me he was late as has difficulty getting out of the hospital car park....so he's working as consultant at private/NHS somewhere nearby.

Yes I've heard of him! Funny when famous Drs have everyday delays (I was once caught in the Costa's queue behind Raj Rai near St Marys!).

There seems a bit of a postcode lotto with gynie/pregnancy stuff on the NHS - I considered private but always got what I needed (from experts) in the same time on the NHS but I am in a large city.

I've been thinking of going there, Bryan beattie was recommended by my midwife. he is/was consultant at UHW Cardiff afaik. I'm consultant led care right now but don't feel like I'm seen enough and after my last pregnancy am very nervous. wondering how quick it is to get an appt there?

Pretty quick, depends on how flexible you are. Think you can book online, so have a look on the website.

I've booked in (yay), could have had a next day appt if I could have made the time. so nice and easy to get seen. wish I had have booked weeks ago as I've been worrying and working myself into a state for a while now. now hopefully I don't get lost finding it, have been advised not to use my satnav as it will take me to nearby dog kennels rather than the clinic!

It's really quite easy to get to. If you get off the M4 at Cardiff Gate, you take the services exit on the roundabout, but go straight over at the roundabout instead of turning left. I think it's then straight over at the next roundabout past the Audi dealer and then past the Mercedes dealer (less easy to see). You go up a straight bit of road with bus stops on the right and then I think you take a right at the roundabout.

These directions are from memory, so I'd advise checking google maps!

Hope you get the reassurance you want.
