(48 Posts)What do you think of the names Ayla (pronounced as it's written) or Isla (pronounced Eye-la) as girl's names? Preference?
Isla !
To me these are very different names, I personally would use Isla but not Ayla as I have Scottish heritage, not Middle Eastern.
Isla- Beautiful Scottish name.
Isla
Isla
Isla is beautiful
Ayla is pronounced just like Isla by all the Turkish/Turkish Cypriot Aylas I know. I see both as different versions of the same name.
@Wallabyone ah that's good to know! Thanks
I was teaching a reception class (supply) al,OST full of Isla variants today.
Isla
Iyla
Iila
Arla
Aila
Ayla
I try so hard to get names right as it must be awful to have a stranger replace your teacher mispronouncing your name, I only got to grips with Isla and Arla.
I really struggle with Iyla as it looks like Lyla.
Isla
I know both and they are pronounces the same. I much prefer the spelling Ayla.
@QuillBill just google Isla after reading your post, and saw 'most popular baby names of 2019 are Archie and Isla!' I feel so unoriginal 😂
Isla ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Isla
Isla.. the other one is a complete bastardisation of the Scottish spelling. Kind of like equivalent of Neve or shovon!
Isla
@thetrinityisshite it really isn't a 'bastardisation'. Ayla is a Turkish name.
I live Isla my ds18 girlfriends name.
I work in pre.school and have lots of variants of names, spellings and pronounciation, it's fun trying to remember which is which
I like both
Also like Ailsa (ayl-sa) and Orla
@WindyMiller1020 Ailsa is very pretty 😍
Ayla - the glow/halo of the moon 😍 In Arabic and Turkish
Isla - meaning island in Scotland
Both lovely names but different to one another. They do sound the same.
I really love Isla
Much less popular numbers wise than it used to be according to the official data
