Cornell University gang rape scandal

I found this horrifying. A woman was gang raped for multiple hours, drugged and terrorised by eight men. Men who invited more than 50 others to come and rape her too. 50 other men who could have stopped it but didn't. More men raped this one woman than trans athletes exist in American universities. But the latter has provoked a major outcry and has seen hundreds of millions of dollars spent to ban them. Why isn't the focus on these rapists? And the men who knew it was happening and did nothing? Also interesting to note that this is the first mention of Cornell University and its vile handling of this on Mumsnet. They had to write essays for crying out loud. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5wyzrm0n74ro

You're getting sucked in with the trans argument. It's not one or the other. What happened at Cornell is dreadful and symptomatic of so many things wrong with a patriarchal culture, but that is completely unrelated to men in women's sport (which is also wrong).

LittleGreenDuck · 29/09/2026 15:47

The problem is men, however they identify. It’s not an either / or issue.

It isn't one or the other - but no-one here has even bothered to mention this huge scandal - but you can't move for threads on trans people.

@alcovecupboards Are you making use of this woman's ordeal to make a point about trans issues?

This huge scandal (yes) that was publicised only yesterday on the US & Canada pages (which many people won't read) of the BBC website (which many people won't read) ?

I'm genuinely trying to get my head around where you're coming from on this.
And exactly what point you're trying to make.

TheSmallAssassin · 29/09/2026 16:02

You're one of the people here, why haven't you mentioned it before?

Not at all. I'm pointing out that the posters here don't care at all about it compared to trans issues. It's staggering frankly.

How do you know we don't care about it?

You have a very, very simplistic view of the way discussion boards work, and of the way the world works, quite honestly.

You're posting about it to have a go at posters here. That much is clear.

What a surprise.

How do you know I haven't mentioned it? Do you know all my user names and all the user names of everyone else on here - and where else we post on the internet.

Wow.

It is a US story which has only hit the mainstream media here this afternoon. The article you linked is only 41 minutes old.

It seems this poster has hit a new low.

It was updated 44 minutes ago. It has been live for 21 hours. It is a story that has been reported for months. But you're all too busy pretending that Sandie Pegg is more important than stuff like this.

It seems this poster has hit a new low.

You've spent all your posts here attacking me rather than focusing on the facts which is you've ignored a horrible crime - repeated countless times across the world - in favour of focusing on trans people. The radicalisation is clear.

I don't really understand your point about trans athletes. I also don't understand why you think feminists do not discuss cases of this kind?

There are many threads on this board about (off the top of my head) Drug-assisted rape cases, the teenagers from Hampshire who got rehabilitation orders this summer & police failures re grooming gangs.

alcovecupboards · 29/09/2026 16:12

Ah right, got you. So you've done a search across MN, seen that nobody has posted about this story that was publicised only yesterday and concluded that no one gives a toss.
Then you thought you'd come to FWR and have a go at posters here for "not caring".

This is a new low even for you.

sashh · 29/09/2026 16:14

It is possible, if you have more than one brain cell, to care about more than one thing.

But let's stick with which is worse? One has had a completely devastating effect that the young woman may never get over.

But trans athletes on female teams affects 50% of students both at the college and any female applying.

Now let's combine things, all the rapists could, today, declare themselves trans women and apply for the female teams. They would then get access to women's changing areas. Do you see why having any men in female spaces is a problem now?
