Jolyon Maugham says his wife was targeted in changing room

On Bluesky yesterday. Sorry if there’s already a thread but I couldn’t see one. The replies would indicate this is a common thing. Really?

Jolyon Maugham says his wife was targeted in changing room

I saw this yesterday and just thought “bollocks”. Then I thought what an utter prick using his wife’s illness to prove a nonsense point. If she was challenged as a man in the ladies changing room I would be very surprised (she doesn’t look like a man breasts or no breasts). Then I saw her comments about expecting it to happen to her and just thought “bollocks” again.

yourhairiswinterfire · 22/05/2025 10:26

Not clear what planet Maugham is living on.

He's such a strange man-he's been having a month long mantrum all because women's rights don't belong to men.

CM's BS posts show she seems to think it is GC's who believe having body parts removed turns a woman into a man (as if it's not gender ideology that has teenagers and women removing their breasts to become 'men' or 'neither sex'.)

So the Maugham's don't understand the GC position. As such, this scenario probably sounded plausible in their heads but doesn't make much sense to anyone else.

Yes. This.

I’m confused, so according to JoMoFoKimono
having your breasts removed literally makes you a man, but conversely, having your breasts removed literally doesn’t make you a man?
Schrödinger’s Boobs?

Maybe he feels marooned in a sea of cognitive dissonance, because his ideology suggests that his wife's mastectomy means that she's now a man, and he's now in a same-sex marriage. But he knows that she's still a woman. So confusing for poor Jolyon trying to make sense of his fantasy world.

yourhairiswinterfire · 22/05/2025 10:30

I find it interesting that the Maughams are loaded but Claire seems to be using swimming baths that allow any old riff-raff and ''vigilantes'' in. I always imagined the stinking rich would use private, swanky ones where everyone knows everyone.

TUCKINGFYP0 · 22/05/2025 10:30

Merrymouse · 22/05/2025 10:04

A double mastectomy does not make you look like a man. It makes you look like a woman who has had a double mastectomy.

Not clear what planet Maugham is living on.

This.

It’s disgusting that he is trying to scare women who are going through treatment from breast cancer. Just when you thought he couldn’t stoop any lower.

Rightsraptor · 22/05/2025 10:34

I know nothing of Mrs M or I didn't until today, anyway. Could she herself have made her cancer, and consequently her double mastectomy, public? Some people do go public with such things for a host of reasons. If so, Jolyon wouldn't be breaching her privacy.

But what really struck me was that she must surely have been in a women's single sex changing room in order to be challenged? If it was mixed sex anybody could use it, therefore no challenge.

So what are the Maughams doing using single sex changing spaces, with their pro-trans & gender ID beliefs, when they should be flag bearers for mixed sex spaces?

(I don't believe it either)

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/05/2025 10:35

The Maugham's have two children who identify as trans, and have gone down the medical route. They need to think they are right, or they will need to face what they have facilitated for their children.

Merrymouse · 22/05/2025 10:36

I wonder if there is an alternative universe where we are still in the EU and Maugham is still a tax lawyer.

Probably not. There would have to be no twitter too.

sualipa · 22/05/2025 10:36

He has killed a fox and gloried in it - utterly loathsome man.

On Boxing Day 2019, Jolyon Maugham QC, a prominent British barrister and founder of the Good Law Project, garnered significant public attention after tweeting that he had killed a fox with a baseball bat at his London home. He reported that the fox had become entangled in netting around his chicken coop, and he acted to protect his chickens. The incident sparked widespread criticism and led to an investigation by the RSPCA.

Greyskybluesky · 22/05/2025 10:37

As with many law practitioners, what they leave out can be just as important as what they put in

I believe it's true in itself.

Curious that she posted a few weeks earlier about it as a hypothetical thing that might happen to her while constructing her own fantasy arguments.

Yep, such an unfortunate coincidence...

Apparently she has now deactivated her account?

Kucinghitam · 22/05/2025 10:09

Well, it looks like the two Maughams really deserve each other.

Somebody - can't remember who, but I have absolute faith that somebody here will know! - thanked God for letting Thomas Carlyle and Jane Welsh marry each other rather than anybody else "and so make only two people miserable instead of four."
Smile

Goodluckanddontfitup · 22/05/2025 10:42

But what if it is true? These threads are so over generalising, this wouldn’t happen because ALL women act in exactly the same way and so wouldn’t have said this.

Greyskybluesky · 22/05/2025 10:43

Claire Maugham says: "Gender criticals think women must have and not have certain body parts"

Well, by that logic I am certainly not gender critical but plenty of transwomen definitely are!

It's not about fitting any narrative, it's about looking at the logic and detail of the situation

ETA: OK, so you've deleted the bit about fitting a narrative, but my point still stands

This.

These are the people Helen Joyce talks about who will never ever admit they were wrong because they will have to face the horror of what they were a party to so it'll be doubling down all the way.

In a field with very stiff competition JM is right up there in the pantheon of utter fuds.

And we wern’t there, so we don't know the facts. Maybe it’s a lie created to fit an agenda. But maybe it’s not. I don’t think it’s impossible this happened. This issue is so hyper focussed at the moment I don’t think it’s beyond the realms that a challenge like this could happen.

So, in the slightest chance this is true...

Who is it that thinks that removing breasts means they are male?

(Hint, not GC people)

If it’s true why hasn’t she backed him up, and why has she deactivated her account? BTW, it’s so obviously not true.

I don’t think anyone thinks this. But I think certain ignorant people could see no breasts and with the hyper focus on males in female areas at the moment, jump to incorrect conclusions

The point is that it would only be people on the TRA side of the debate who would see a breastless woman and think man.

Jo's attempting to use this as a stick to beat the GC side with after the SC ruling but it does the opposite.

Also, plenty of women have very small boobs, a fact which women are very well aware of. That's why we don't judge womanhood by cup size - making this scenario even more unlikely!

Disagree. I think some on the GC side are so concerned about males (born males) in female spaces, that it’s not beyond the realms that seeing no breasts there could be a fear / assumption of a male being in the space. For what it’s worth I agree with the need for female only spaces, my point is that it’s really not beyond the realms with how hyper focussed this is that somebody could ignorantly made a comment like this

Again, over generalising. Some women can be unpleasant and or ignorant
