Jolyon Maugham says his wife was targeted in changing room

On Bluesky yesterday. Sorry if there’s already a thread but I couldn’t see one. The replies would indicate this is a common thing. Really?

Jolyon Maugham says his wife was targeted in changing room

The reason I don't believe this happened is because women know what other women's bodies look like. Half the sports facilities I've ever used have had open plan changing of some sort (maybe like 3 cubicles which is meaningless when busy. The only places with enough cubicles tend to be the unisex changing villages).

In the 90s some of the high street clothing chains even had open plan fitting rooms!!

You can also see what women look like when they wear sports gear because of the way it's designed.

I think we're primed by our socialisation to be mildly interested in "the competition" and as we fight that socialisation it can be glorious to see the beauty of real women to counteract the filtered, airbrushed BS from ads and social media.

Women come in a staggering array of body shapes. Lots of women are relatively flat chested. Especially slim, petite women. It's nothing unusual.

"The woman who posted this invective on Bluesky a month ago has now, according to her husband, been "challenged" by "vigilantes" at the swimming pool. Meanwhile she has deleted these posts. What are the chances? And has the cat got her tongue?"

As JM is a lawyer who is known to be dishonest, I'd assume that "was challenged" technically means she found something difficult to do, or that someone suggested they have a race or something.

Unfortunately BC is very common and you'd have to be fairly unusual not to have encountered a woman with a mastectomy before.

I'd love to know exactly what does make her a woman, but JM is far too dishonest to ever suggest what he considers that to be.

Technically "she was challenged" could mean "she was challenged by a tricky lock on the cubicle door" or something, if you really wanted to make a tweet that was literally true but fundamentally misleading.

LesserCelandine · 22/05/2025 09:56

There are numerous flat-chested women out there, I wouldn’t blink if a flat-chested woman entered the ladies changing room. And if she stripped off in front of me then it is not as if bilateral mastectomy scares are invisible - even TRAs acknowledge that and use it to emphasis on the womanhood of women who identify as men by drawing mastectomy scares on them on their publicity material.

FebruaryFever · 22/05/2025 09:56

This makes absolutely no sense. Say if you were a woman who spotted someone in the changing room with a scarred chest, you’d think a) warrior woman - been through a gruelling surgery - lots of empathy or b) woman/girl obviously had top surgery - lots of empathy. In neither of those scenarios would you be thinking this woman wasn’t a woman, not deserving of being in the woman’s changing room.

And so low to use his wife’s private health issues in this way.

Is anyone else utterly baffled by this??

MelOfTheRoses · 22/05/2025 09:57

JustBitetheKnotsOff · 22/05/2025 09:39

Is there nothing of his wife's private life, or private wardrobe, that that man won't use?

How did he manage to get into her kimono? 👘. It must have been very oversized.

TheCatsTongue · 22/05/2025 09:57

"Her breasts were not what make her a woman"

Is this the same man demanding people get access to "gender affirming care" like breast enlargements because that helps men become women?

teksquad · 22/05/2025 09:58

I don't know why people are giving this so much airtime, he's clearly lying, as per his track record.

BackToLurk · 22/05/2025 09:58

This was posted on the other thread. This only seems to have been about a week ago. It's hard to tell, because since JoMo's contribution his wife has deactivated. So we're supposed to believe that in the short time since she posted this, she was challenged, but didn't ever bother mentioning it. Not buying it

I don't believe him

KkkIt · 22/05/2025 09:59

I don't get this. If she had a mastectomy then it must mean she was mistaken for a transman ie a female. But then she is still in the right changing room for her sex. It wouldn't therefore be a "terf" that challenged her. Did a TRA think she was a traitor for not using the men's?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/05/2025 10:01

I wonder what the Maughams talk about round the dinner table in the evening. I hadn't realised his wife was also posting away about this, but not surprising, given they have apparently swung behind two trans-identified children now.

Amazing that 6-foot plus men like Robin Moira White have used women's toilets for years with no problem (or so he says), but when a small, short-haired woman has a mastectomy, she's immediately challenged as being in the wrong place.

Oh god, I've met RMW in real life. If I met him in the toilet I wouldn't challenge him, not because I'd be perfectly happy to welcome him into a women's space, but because I'd be scared to challenge a man (especially in a secluded space).
It's wild how our fearful silence is being construed as enthusiastic consent.

Merrymouse · 22/05/2025 10:04

A double mastectomy does not make you look like a man. It makes you look like a woman who has had a double mastectomy.

Not clear what planet Maugham is living on.

Or that women should get their breasts removed if their gender isn't sufficiently feminine.

Well, it looks like the two Maughams really deserve each other.

PetaltotheMedal · 22/05/2025 10:11

What's the bet Jolyon is raging at any sympathy offered towards his wife after this alleged occurrence - he's the one hard done by in all of this!

Yatuway · 22/05/2025 10:14

Not the first time he's been a tad creepy about personal things pertaining to his wife. This has a bit of the same energy as the kimono anecdote, notwithstanding that appeared to be true whereas he's obviously bullshitting here. Her breasts, her nightwear, her changing room experience. All to be shared with millions of people, for clout, on his huge social media platform. I can't put my finger on it exactly but I don't like it.

JasmineAllen · 22/05/2025 10:17

The more I hear about JM the more I think he is a prize nob, but parading his wifes' cancer diagnosis and double mastectomy on the internet as some sort of weird made up 'look what happened isn't it terrible?' is a new low even by his standards.

DrDameKatyDeniseInExile · 22/05/2025 10:17

I’m confused, so according to JoMoFoKimono
having your breasts removed literally makes you a man, but conversely, having your breasts removed literally doesn’t make you a man?
Schrödinger’s Boobs?

Exactly. Most of us have come across mastectomies in our friends and families.

I can't see how I would mistake anyone with them for a man. In fact the argument even then doesn't make sense. At worst you might think a person with those scars a trans man (and therefore a woman) which would be fine in a women's changing room.

So is it about the scars or being flat chested - because I was very much so in my skinny younger days and no one thought I was a man despite wearing jeans and hoodies and having short hair.

I agree what a creepy man he is!

Helleofabore · 22/05/2025 10:24

The way that he has presented this incident doesn’t seem believable.

I don’t believe he thought through his post at all.
