@Manteiga you bring up another very good point.

Anyone using music with foreign language lyrics, get a human translator to check them, one who understands the cultural background.

I have very reasonable French, got a French government sustificate and everything, but I wouldn't dare to translate lyrics full of contemporary youth slang.

Iamnotalemming · 07/01/2025 10:21

Jesus wept. It's yet more evidence of incompetence, isn't it? It's like Labour have forgotten how to do politics. I'm both depressed and enraged.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/01/2025 10:23

Fully agree with @Manteiga and @Chersfrozenface - another reason for political parties (and anyone in the public eye) to be very scrupulously careful with this sort of thing.

duc748 · 07/01/2025 10:26

Quite apart from anything else, surely Labour would take it for granted that anything they put out will be examined with a fine-tooth comb by the likes Of Guido Fawkes. Or, indeed, Tory Central Office. So lame, so thoughtless, so careless.

Well quite, especially after the above have picked it up from Twix.

Or indeed Mumsnet, which is not without its followers in the media (waves).

Dbank · 07/01/2025 10:32

Labour has 100% control over their own comms to make such a staggeringly incompetent mistake, gives a very worrying insight as to how this government is being run.

I've worked in PR, and I can't imagine a scenario where this could happen in any vaguely organised business.

I would also love to know what the music licensing agreement was...how much did they pay Mr Holland?

larklane17 · 07/01/2025 10:41

Excellent points @Dbank.
I keep shaking my head at the incompetence and stupidity at basic level. I can't understand the apparent lack of page 1 "watch our back" tactics. Not just this, which is staggeringly awful.

A little bit too much so.

Tiktok supposedly takes down videos with music that breaches copyright. It seems likely that the two tracks used are available from Tiktok's music library, especially as PP have said that at least one has been used a lot in Tiktok videos.

Yes - though in this case any Portuguese speaker they ran it past should have been able to identify references to sex, drugs, and young girls, even if he or she couldn't have pieced together the whole meaning.

duc748 · 07/01/2025 11:22

I guess Ian Dury said it with a little more charm.

WarriorN · 07/01/2025 11:42

When is the next mn mp questions thingy?

Need to ask them wtaf

GlomOfNit · 07/01/2025 12:22

Well that's appalling, frankly. I absolutely refuse to be nursed by a gigantic hare, that was NOT in their manifesto! Grin

Jeez, why must all social media/comms for big orgs be left to the children? Fairly sure the 'song' was selected by AI out of the ether and not deliberate, but at some point, an actual human (yes? surely?) must have looked it over and gone 'yeah, that'll do'. WTF?

themostspecialelfintheworkshop · 07/01/2025 12:34

Even without the misogyny and paedophilia from the music, it's still utterly bonkers and suggests the Labour party have parted company with sanity.

We don't want bloody AI, we want more nurses. They're underlining all that's wrong with politicians and their total disregard for what normal people want.

Quite. As the late great Tony Benn said..

‘What power have you got?

Where did you get it from?

In whose interests do you exercise it?

To whom are you accountable?

And how can we get rid of you?’

If you cannot get rid of the people who govern you, you do not live in a democratic system.”

Chersfrozenface · 07/01/2025 12:52

The mainstream media's treatment of this is illuminating, as usual.

The Independent's headline is "Labour apologises for explicit song use in TikTok video" - explicit

The Guardian goes with "Labour apologises for TikTok video with ‘inappropriate’ soundtrack" - inappropriate

Evening Standard - "Labour apologises for graphic song use in latest TikTok' - graphic

Sky - "Labour apologise after posting TikTok video featuring explicit song" - explicit, again

The Telegraph - "Labour uses song encouraging drugging of girls in TikTok video"

Daily Mail - "Labour is forced to delete AI TikTok clip over using graphic song encouraging drugging of girls"

Explicit? Graphic? Inappropriate? What about misogynistic, paedophilic, violent?

ArabellaScott · 07/01/2025 13:00

Yep. Drugging and raping children isn't just 'inappropriate'.

Toseland · 07/01/2025 13:02

I'm very tired of "it was a work experience intern" - I don't believe it, I think someone in the Labour party is trolling the British public.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 07/01/2025 13:02

They've done a reverse ferret on the hare nurse policy Grin

This.

I mean, for fuck's sake everybody is now going to know exactly what the words were, it's not like they can skim over it by saying it's inappropriate and graphic.

Toseland · 07/01/2025 13:02

Yes, especially as they seem to have millions to spend on their staff.

It does, however, suggest that they're a fucking idiot.

larklane17 · 07/01/2025 13:08

The blame it on an intern twaddle is very old hat indeed.
Someone has been binge watching The West Wing over Christmas.

Exactly. It’s the same excuse they’ve used before. Remember just last year in the campaigning Labour used some godawful image of a man and woman in bed with sexist / misogynistic trope.
they also used fake imagery from AI for Sunak waking up in bed.
All awful at best - but this latest cockup - shocking, for all the reasons stated already. Hope they discuss it in QT, with clip and translation.

Chersfrozenface · 07/01/2025 13:15

I forgot to check the BBC.

Tumbleweed, even in the Politics section.

And normally there's an item on "today's papers". There's only an item on the Scottish papers, nothing on the London editions.

Nothing to see here, eh, Auntie?
