Its like a episode of W1A. I suspect they gave the job to the new intern.

PronounssheRa · 06/01/2025 16:03

The comms team are absolutely dreadful that's for certain

SkiingonKaraSea · 06/01/2025 16:05

Saying Starmer is a dictator, they are Tories in disguise, left-wingers have been kicked out, it is an intern are all just excuses. This IS Labour. Just look to the unions if your want to see how misogynistic the left are. Even an intern would have had to have this signed off and Labour Comms would have looked at it by the time it was appearing in the press at least, and didn’t take it down. This is the messaging of the Labour Party.

not sure how labour would have known

A few simple steps.

First, is the song you propose using in English?

If yes - Check that the lyrics are suitable for your ad, your brand and your message.

If no - Get a reliable translation and check that the lyrics are suitable for your ad, your brand and your message.

A few posters have mentioned the language. I don't think it is unreasonable to expect the government of the United Kingdom to use lyrics in English when communicating with it's electorate. There is so much wrong here, hard to know where to start really!

SkiingonKaraSea · 06/01/2025 11:51

Remember Labour put this out at the same time as refusing a call for an inquiry into ‘grooming’ gangs raping and torture of thousands of young girls who were often plied with drugs to get their compliance. Read the lyrics again with that in mind!

It's staggering incompetence.

Someone has decided they needed to get in on using SM to appeal to younger voters because it worked so well for Trump and Reform but they have fucked it up massively. This is a middle aged man's idea of what the "kids" think is cool.

SkiingonKaraSea · 06/01/2025 16:18

Considering Starmer was saying calls for an inquiry into grooming gangs was ‘far right’, and given his apparently vindictiveness, it really wouldn’t seem beyond it to me for them to have used this track ‘to show them! and being in Portuguese we can put one over on them without them realising’

You’ve not RTFT. There are people defending them by making crummy excuses.

I have read the full thread, thank you. I did not notice anyone saying "I'm a left-winger / Marxist and I think the advert is fine". People making excuses, crumby or not, does not make them left-wing. It makes them stupid. There is no possible excuse for such a massive political gaffe.

FWIIW I am a Marxist and think it's a bloody stupid own goal. Does that satisfy you?

Runor · 06/01/2025 16:28

I sort of hope Badenoch (or someone!) asks Starmer about this on Wednesday

Runor · 06/01/2025 16:31

Ah, the clip is ‘currently unavailable’ - does that mean it’s been taken down?

SkiingonKaraSea · 06/01/2025 16:31

No. An ‘own goal’ only harms your own side. This harms women and girls.

Of course the Labour Party support this. They are promoting it!

It is THEIR TikTok!

The Labour Party are so far off Left Wing that they may as well be Tories.

So you see, just because YOU think they are left wing simply indicates where you own politics lie. If you read what I have posted, atr no point at all did I say that I was a member of the Labour Party or a supporter of the Labour Party. What I said that that no left winger would support it. Last time I looked there might have been half a dozen vaguely leaning to the left members of the Labout Party. Most of them would give Margaret Thatcher a run for her money. She stole milk from children, they stole heating from the elderly. Not a lot of difference there.

You said the Labour Party didn’t support it - even though it is their TikTok.

”I don't think you would find a single left winger supporting this - or the Labour Party.”

Yes I think it's been taken down. They probably hope no one will have noticed

Chersfrozenface · 06/01/2025 16:42

I wonder whether anyone is going full Malcolm Tucker at HQ.

Perhaps not. Too much risk of accusations of bullying and/or discrimination on the grounds of a genuine or made-up protected characteristic.

Vegemiteandhoneyontoast · 06/01/2025 16:45

Apparently the song has a video to go with it. If this is real, it's one of the most disgusting things I've seen for a while, and that's saying something.

Given it is still up, I don’t put it past Labour to have chosen the lyrics on purpose.

Don't be so silly. I doubt even you believe that. It's a massive cock up of course, no doubt about it. But even if you think the lyrics are ok (which I really doubt anybody in the Labour party would) anybody educated would know that it isn't the kind of thing you would use in a political communication. I am not a great supporter of the Labour Party and they have a poor record on women's issues but this particular thing can only have been a really stupid (and sackable) mistake rather than deliberate.

I bet you really enjoyed sharing it though OP. And you slipped in the thing about the Rotherham enquiry at the same time too. Good work. The Conservatives were so much better weren't they. Managed the economy well, improved things for women and no cock ups eh?

HaveYouActuallyDoneAnyWashingThisWeekMum · 06/01/2025 16:46

Full Malcolm Tucker 🤣

If it were purely a massive cock-up why was it left up all day?

I didn’t “slip in the thing about the Rotherham enquiry at the same time” - Kier Starmer was responding at a press conference about it at the same time as Labour released this TikTok after Jess Phillips turned down a request for an inquiry into ‘grooming gangs’ that operated across the UK, not just Rotherham, with thousands of victims. Comms teams coordinate messaging across different media so it would be no coincidence that these things went out so close together and it is reasonable to judge them together.

Though I see you’ve taken on Starmer’s declaration that anyone concerned about the rape of girls are far right.

This would have been a gift...🤬🤬🤬 (Malcolm Tucker emoji)

Chersfrozenface · 06/01/2025 17:21

It seems the Labour Party has commented:
"The post is an adaptation of a viral social media trend and contains a mix of two music tracks.
“We acknowledge the translation of the lyrics are completely inappropriate. We apologise and the video has now been deleted."

PronounssheRa · 06/01/2025 17:30

Every couple of days there is some kind of misstep by Labour. If they can't be trusted to post on tik tok then I worry about the bigger stuff. They lack any political instinct and have zero understanding of the country and the people in it.

I didn't have particular high expectations but fuck me they have been so bad.

SkiingonKaraSea · 06/01/2025 17:32

“We acknowledge the translation of the lyrics are completely inappropriate. We apologise and the video has now been deleted."

And how many hours did it take you to work that out? Was it when you saw the response?
