SD: was trying to stop things getting more inflammatory than they already were

SD- I know we had ability to close down conversations but not to remove posts. We were concerned to close it down before it got too inflammatory.

SD: yes but there are levels of awareness

One of the points to raise I think is that when Debra was clerking, she’d push us out back to the waiting room during the breaks, not out completely.

SD: on behalf of the network cmmttee

BC: Re GCRN foundation - you highlight egs of transphobia in OU and reach out to colleagues cos of that

SD: At the time it seemed that was what was occurring. We heard via our members - their right or wrong perception of OU badging itself with GCRN was in contravention of affirmation of GI belief. I hadn't had any conversations with GC people so no reference point

SD- I hadn't had any conversations with anyone who was GC but seemed to be more people upset on one side of the argument than the other.

We were really really surprised that going against the law was an issue

Complete lack of management here

SD: I still hold the view that the network could not have been promoted the way it was without reaction and backlash and getting agitated and upset. My co-chair Heather and colleagues were really surprised OU hadn't thoughr c how this would be managed and the GCRN wouldn't have thought to engage with us and run it past us and give us as a cmtee advance warning

BC: in LGBT network some people think GC beliefs are transphobic

SD: Yes. That's unavoidable

So the LGBTQ+ network are having a grump that Jo didn't run her research network past them. Even thought that is completely outside normal academic practise and not something anyone would think to do

This guy - went along with the institutional culture. At best.

LGBT network needs to be renamed to GBT network (or possibly just T network, but definitely not L).
