URGENT CURRENT CASE - Public Access Request - J Phoenix - The Open University - 3322700/2021

Yes, Ben's finishing points are masterly, aren't they? I wonder what his preparation looks like? How much are his questions pre-determined, and how much do they depend on what the witness actually says? Is there a flowchart type notation, e.g. with a sign for a loop to go round until you get the witness to say what you want them to say, then stop? At the end of Friday he talked about only doing his detailed cross-examination preparation a day or two in advance - that was part of why the time pressure is so difficult (and doubtless, why it's so problematic to get ill - he probably wasn't able to rest over the weekend :-( )

I would love to see his drafts. I do suspect you are right - start of which the endgame, then build a ladder to it.

  • of which = off with

Autocorrect is a pain

Chrysanthemum5 · 16/10/2023 11:16

So the next witness is senior leadership - I look forward to his explanation of why none of this was the OU's fault or indeed anything they should have dealt with.

I think their purity is more important to them than the OU and its case.

And this isn't a neo religion, or creed, or caste system? Or indeed all three?

Really?

Mmmnotsure · 16/10/2023 11:17

I wonder if all the quick-to-get through OU witnesses will be like this. A new Olympic sport: explode out of the starting blocks, flying leap through the air, and impale yourself on the railings.

Though someone please remove the use of Platonic from CW's vocabulary. His poor students, and they are paying for this.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 16/10/2023 11:17

And i'm guessing he doesn't know who draft the open letter, either.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 16/10/2023 11:17

drafted

MrsDoylesCake · 16/10/2023 11:18

I wonder if BC could draft out a flowchart that results in my children agreeing to put on their uniform/weather appropriate clothing in a timely manner?

Yes indeed. The management at the OU are appalling.

IcakethereforeIam · 16/10/2023 11:18

I keep reading 'c' as 'cunt'. It's surprising how often it fits.

Thanks to everyone watching for their posts.

Ben's probably a bit expensive for that, but I recommend "How to talk so kids will listen and listen so kids will talk"!

I think it must have been composed like the game where one person writes something then folds it over and hands it to the next person with the added fun of all wearing blindfolds to retain anonymity.

These people are so damaging to the OU and its reputation

And that is a shame because the OU provides a study route for those who can't access traditional university

chilling19 · 16/10/2023 11:22

As always - much support for you Jo. It must be hard to sit and listen to this. ❤️

ickky · 16/10/2023 11:24

I do really feel for Jo, imagine hearing that your colleague thinks so badly of you that he thinks you need to be kept away from children. I think the only solace is that they all appear to be loons.

If the OU needs to clear out the Stygian Stables. A Hurculean task indeed looking at the amount of wickedness we have been listening to.

Melissamelisante · 16/10/2023 11:26

These people need deprogramming - totally cultish behaviours.

Ameanstreakamilewide · 16/10/2023 11:26

As a PP wisely noted 'neo-priests, for a neo-religion'.

Thank you. I’ll check that out

Chrysanthemum5 · 16/10/2023 11:27

I'm on leave for two weeks so I slept late and have not yet showered but this is too interesting to leave.

Ros Atkins' book on The art of explainers is good and gives an overview of his preparation and delivery techniques. I only hope that we needn't wait until BC retires before he writes a book on his technique.

Maybe we need a crowdfunder for a Masterclass by him on how to prepare for a sensitive discussion with HR that asserts the law for GC employees? I would sell precious items to be able to attend and for others to do so.

ickky · 16/10/2023 11:27

Panel member to CW - heard you had contributed to the open letter and also heard there were a lot of requests from the claimant to take it down. When was it taken down.

CW don't know.
