Missed the deletion messages so here for that really.

I truly didn't think it would be controversial to have a discussion about who sees a gynaecologist.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/09/2023 09:48

People were freely expressing themselves, often humorously, about the absurdity of the situation.

BeverlyBrook · 16/09/2023 09:49

Ah but it is! I suspect the doctor is now peaking so fast they are flying vertically upwards, realising the insanity we have come to.

And adult throwing a tantrum because they didn't get what they want.

Keep shining a light

FriedasCarLoad · 16/09/2023 09:50

It's depressing that there's the least bit of controversy about the the gynaecologist's response.

qazxc · 16/09/2023 09:50

The doctor said he wasn't qualified to provide the patient with the adequate treatment as he didn't have the specialist training. He offered to refer them to another doctor that could help them. That seems entirely logical and appropriate to me.

Rotterdam · 16/09/2023 09:52

In the article it quoted a trans group as saying that gynaecologists should even see pre op men pretending to be women.

Surely that’s more mental illness than a health need.

BeeCucumber · 16/09/2023 09:53

Insanity.

Apparently we are not even allowed to part quote the doctor's response.

One day we'll be allowed to say things that happened in actual words again. Not yet though. For now, we are just miming it. Or using gifs...

When will people learn (not you) that there will be no point at which trans rights activists will say, ok we have enough now. Because narcissists are never satisfied and the whole movement is a power trip.

Clymene · 16/09/2023 09:57

Espace Santé Trans, a transgender health group, said in a statement: “Gynaecologists should treat trans women even if they have not had genital reassignment surgery or hormonal treatment.”

Gynaecologist - A gynecologist is a doctor who specializes in female reproductive health. They diagnose and treat issues related to the female reproductive tract. This includes the uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, and breasts.

So not any body parts that transwomen have then.

Clymene · 16/09/2023 09:58

What exactly would they be treating them for? Confused

nettie434 · 16/09/2023 09:59

If I were a trans woman, I'd prefer to to see a doctor that understood about neo vaginas.

Rotterdam · 16/09/2023 10:00

I agree @Ereshkigalangcleg

I felt sympathetic to the first ‘trans woman’ I worked with as did other female colleagues. He creeped me out but I kept my feelings to myself.

He had endured painful operations as well as enduring nasty behaviour from male colleagues when he transitioned and I think we felt sympathy he went through all that to try and become like us.

He became well known and received an OBE.

Then I noticed articles by him saying trans men should be allowed to participate in women’s sport….

That peaked me, 20 odd years ago.

What?! Confused

Just here for the deletion message really. The last one was a bit 😱

Does anyone know if France is more aligned to us or Canada in their thinking?

AvacadoFieldsForever · 16/09/2023 10:04

It’s like the pregnant person wanting to reeducate the entire hospital that sometimes men had babies when
the blood testing team questioned the results. Ie did their job.

Well, quite. A gynaecologist has expertise in treating female body parts and the female hormonal system. If you don’t have female body parts and a female hormonal system, they’re quite obviously not the right specialty for you. In the same way as you wouldn’t see a neurologist if you had bowel cancer.

TheHappyCarrot · 16/09/2023 10:07

Still not sure what the person was expecting the doctor to do.

I have no idea about the biology of a 'neovagina', does it go anywhere or is it just a cavity? It sounds like the person just wanted validation that they pass as a woman.

HagoftheNorth · 16/09/2023 10:08

FFS! This is about a man, who says he is a woman, demanding that another man examines his genitals. The doctor in question cannot provide medical care for this person. It is no different from a man demanding that a dentist examine his genitals, or a builder examine his genitals…..

RoyalCorgi · 16/09/2023 10:09

nettie434 · 16/09/2023 09:59

If I were a trans woman, I'd prefer to to see a doctor that understood about neo vaginas.

I would imagine that that is an extremely small proportion of doctors. Is it even a specialism?

Rotterdam · 16/09/2023 10:09

I will identify as a cat and see if the vet will treat me. Then run crying to the papers.

Wouldn't a psychiatrist be better placed to treat the delusion?

There's a great comment under the Times piece:
