FWIW I just checked on Doctolib. I'm in an area of France with an acute shortage of doctors. If I need to see a gynae, I can have an appt in 3 weeks if I'm willing to drive 80 kms.

HootyMcBooby76 · 17/09/2023 11:40

Where are all the trans men demanding their prostate exams? If not, why not?

This is where "gender affirming care" and "trans women are women" gets us.

There is NO reason EVER for a TW to visit or need to see a gynae.
They have no endocrine system, or anatomy and physiology (nor will they ever have) that requires the care of a medical specialist in female reproductive care.

A "neo vagina" is a surgically created wound. That's it. It is a blind ending cavity with no resemblance to a vagina whatsoever. It goes nowhere.
If there are any problems with it, like infection (not surprising sine many are created from bowel tissue and continue to secrete bowel mucus) then they should see their original gender reassignment team or a general medical professional, not take up the time and resources of a specialist that is trained in female anatomy issues.

The ONLY reason they want the right to see a gynae is VALIDATION, plain and simple. They want to say they are just another "woman" visiting her gynae.

It is deluded at the highest level and does them no favours to play along with this utter nonsense.
Trans women are not biological women. Their inverted penis does not require the care of a gynae. They do not have vaginas.

Yes, in 2023 we have to now clarify that men do not have vaginas.

Something every two year old knows.

Londisc · 17/09/2023 18:19

They want to say they are just another "woman" visiting her gynae.

Well in that case, "Sandrine" has learnt what can be like to be "just another woman visiting a gynae! The last time I went to the see one (in Paris) was to ask for HRT to deal with perimenopause symptoms (increased frequency, heaviness and duration of periods + significant premenstrual tenderness and irritability which I'd not suffered from before). The doctor barely listened to a word I said, had already decided that I was "too young" in my early 40s to have the treatment, but told me he could give me the contact details of a psychologist friend of his as he dismissed me from his office.

Bienvenue dans la vraie vie des femmes.

I read an article a day or so ago, and I can't find it now, apparently some of the trans don't want to refer to part of female anatomy as a vagina. We are supposed to call it a front hole in order for us to standardize anatomy. Some biological humans have a front hole and some don't.

Which shows how little they know about women's bodies as a vagina would be a middle hole if we were to use such disgusting terms

NameChangedBcAshamed · 17/09/2023 21:20

Am I missing something here? Why would a trans woman need to see a gynaecologist?!

MargotBamborough · 17/09/2023 21:22

@NameChangedBcAshamed If the transwoman needed to see a gynaecologist, they wouldn't have been sent away without being seen.

That is exactly the point

Grammarnut · 18/09/2023 11:57

What Pothole said, ditto.

Justwrong68 · 18/09/2023 12:12

What would he do with an inside out ballsack? A smear test? Maybe a shave

Justwrong68 · 18/09/2023 12:19

StoneTheCrone · 16/09/2023 10:27

What exactly would the trans woman expect the doctor to do? Isnt it all just a performance?

Just for the sake of 'passing'

My friend is a trans woman and gets BV and thrush the same as the rest of us. Can walk into a non-specialist doctors office in the UK and get treated for BV/thrush just the same. Not sure what the French doctors issue was if that's the case here and it can be treated the same way as any other woman. Sadly I think there is an agenda from both sides to spark up me vs them arguments

Gynaecologists don't treat thrush, they don't have anything available that's any better than over the counter

MargotBamborough · 18/09/2023 13:16

I think a woman with thrush would also be likely to get very short shrift from a French gynaecologist if all she had was thrush. That's what the pharmacy is for.

woopdedoodle · 18/09/2023 13:21

Men get thrush.

Men still don't need to see a gyne.

IcakethereforeIam · 18/09/2023 13:25

I'm probably going to kick myself but what's 'BV'?

DysonSpheres · 18/09/2023 13:29

Bacterial vaginosis

MargotBamborough · 18/09/2023 13:31

Which trans women do not get for fairly obvious reasons.

Actually some women suffer chronic thrush where candida is out of control and the cream and pessaries don't eliminate it. Regular Diflucan (flucanazole?) treatment monthly can be prescribed by a gynae. It can also be prescribed by a doctor whose decent and knows more about thrush.

It's more common in women with hormonal issues like thyroid disease or perimenopausal.

Men rarely get this sort of persistent thrush.

I feel Modibodi, makers of period pants, may have something of a vested interest in persuading the world that every person of every gender needs to purchase their knickers?

Sure, but they're telling women who have periods that men have them too. And that is going to make a lot of us categorically not buy from them. So if there only care is making money....fail.

IcakethereforeIam · 18/09/2023 13:35

I'm saying nowt.

But I want to.

DysonSpheres · 18/09/2023 14:45

ModiBodi:

Here are some top tips for managing your period as a trans woman:

  • Track your hormonal cycle: Use a tracker app like Clue to keep tabs on your cycle and any related symptoms. This is a quick and easy way to feel more prepared and in control.
  • Wear period underwear: By offering a sense of comfort, freedom and security, period underwear can help you feel comfortable, affirmed and empowered throughout your cycle. Check out our Women’s briefs and All Gender collection.

I am (fortunately) on the last few days of my period. Since I hit 45, my periods have been really disruptive. They are still regular and I was always a heavy bleeder, but now they are ridiculous. Over the course of days 2,3,4&5 I had to:

Change and wash my bedding 3 times
Change and wash the bathmats 3 times, once as soon as I changed it due to flooding.
Soaked my clothes several times
Stained the sofa, stained the kitchen chair.
Made a complete mess of the bathroom and had to shower at 4am in the morning twice. Had clots mess up the bathwater so I had to let it out and forget about the bath.

They are so bad by the way, that I will not travel whilst on my period for fear of bleeding through in public, which has happened to my utter mortification before whilst travelling in a cab.

I am drained and exhausted. My iron levels by the way, are on the floor.

I do not feel 'affirmed' or 'empowered' Anyone wearing period underwear for that purpose is mocking the - What's that buzzword everyone loves these days - lived experience of women.

This is frankly insulting and disgusting. Modi bodi can go to hell.

Tips for tracking your period when you're trans

If you’re transgender or non-binary, tracking your menstrual cycle can help you identify patterns and be prepared for what's coming next.

I saw this poster from Essex hospitals promoting birth stats - apparently vaginal births also must be called frontal births Confused

French gynaecologist ignites row over refusal to treat trans woman
quantumbutterfly · 18/09/2023 14:51

Frontal births??? As opposed to...

IcakethereforeIam · 18/09/2023 14:54

As that, arguably, describes caesarean sections too, fuck knows.

Wrongsideofpennines · 18/09/2023 14:55

I can't believe a hospital have used that wording. A c section delivery is more 'to the front' than a vaginal delivery if we're being literal, and if you're talking about what's between your legs then the urethra is at the front. Also, everyone has breast tissue regardless of gender or sex, that's why men can get breast cancer.

comfyoldcardi · 18/09/2023 14:58

In what possible way could a gynaecologist treat a male person? It is ridiculous. Any treatment needs to be provided by their original surgeon or endocrinologist. I imagine the gynaecologist would be worried about being sued for taking on something well outside his area of training /expertise.
