WTAF is wrong with these brands?!

DismantledKing · 31/07/2023 16:15

Oh for fuck’s sakes. What is wrong with all these fucking corporations.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 31/07/2023 16:17

What the hell?!

WomenShouldStillWinWomensSports · 31/07/2023 16:21

It's just so unnecessary isn't it. If TWAW and TMAM, then surely a picture of a bog standard bloke or woman is representative of TW and TM as well. If it's not, then they're saying they know TWAW and TWAM isn't true, at which point they need to stop pretending it is. It's so bizarre to fetishize surgery scars to this extent. I mean, they don't put likenesses of women with C-section scars or breast cancer mastectomy scars all over their SM do they? I wonder why not. 🙄

Imicola · 31/07/2023 16:21

It's such a bizarre direction. Normalisation of eg caesarean scars via random companies including them in their advertising pictures has never happened...so... why this?

Lottapianos · 31/07/2023 16:22

'WTAF is wrong with these brands?!'

I mean, seriously. How the fuck do they think this is ok, or normal, or even vaguely appropriate?

greenteaandmarshmallows · 31/07/2023 16:24

I'm not really sure what's going on there. Is that their standard advertising or some sort of special advertising at one site?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 31/07/2023 16:26

I'm happy to say I haven't used Costa since March 2020 and I used to be a regular. That won't be changing.

Elieza · 31/07/2023 16:28

😱

WomenShouldStillWinWomensSports · 31/07/2023 16:28

It's still fundamentally exploitative of women, as well. There's still a double standard that it's fine to show natal women (trans men) with very few clothes on and show intimate parts of them that the world doesn't need to see, and natal men (trans women) aren't subjected to the same exploitation to signify their "gender" or sex.

The childish obsession of men with women's breasts doesn't end if you transition.

That message needs to reach young girls who think they can opt out of being a woman, because this shows you never can.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 31/07/2023 16:30

Actually I lie. I did use them when I was allowed back to the office because they were the only ones open for lunch bar Starbucks and I wasn't using them. Costa made me 🙄when to pay for lunch I had to place the money on a plate, the server then placed the money in the till, put the change back on the plate and I removed it. Pointless didn't really describe it.

greenteaandmarshmallows · 31/07/2023 16:32

Are they going to do one of a topless person with breasts too?

People were doing all sorts of stuff back then so I'd not be offended by that tbh

inverness123 · 31/07/2023 16:35

FFS. I usually go to costa so I can avoid Starbucks.

Agree, which was why I inwardly rolled my eyes and went with it. The server didn't make the daft rules.

Fair do. Yeah anyway back to the ad. Odd choice

Boiledbeetle · 31/07/2023 17:00

Does this stuff never end?. I wondered why Costa photos kept coming up on Twitter as i hadn't clicked on them yet!

dcbc1234 · 31/07/2023 17:01

They have been sold off. Used to be owned by Whitbread (Premier Inn) and are now owned by the Coca Cola company so it is likely that this is an American influence being brought to bear to their advertising. Clearly not aware this is Terf Island lol.
I only tend to use Costas these days at Motorway services but I will avoid if possible from now on. Terrible message to send teenage girls.

dcbc1234 · 31/07/2023 17:02

At least Starbucks 'Mermaids biscuit' donation only related to one particular biscuit which you could avoid.

INeedAnotherName · 31/07/2023 17:04

Where have they put that up? If it was Brighton then it doesn't surprise me. They are the punk/goth/grungy teenagers of cities. Anything to be edgy.

But...ffs I have to go to one of those for a "meeting" this week 😡 First and last time.

DeadbeatYoda · 31/07/2023 17:05

I can't see what you're all talking about. I'm in a mobile so can possibly only see a clip of the picture.

CorruptedCauldron · 31/07/2023 17:05

They could have put a vest or T shirt on this cartoon person to cover the scars instead of glorifying them. We’d all know it was probably a non-binary or trans person living their best life thanks to the blue hair. Virtue signalling complete, without the need to glamourise a brutal surgical procedure.

Floisme · 31/07/2023 17:07

Sadly I already boycott them as their coffee is shit.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 31/07/2023 17:14

Their coffees shit anyway I never knew how it got so popular.

Its the emperors new clothes of coffee.

Aitchoo · 31/07/2023 17:16

Clearly costa and Dr Martens targeted at the same demographic; both designs look like they are from the same company!

If I bought DMs and liked Costa (I think its coffee is awful!) I would be boycotting them.

Deeply concerning.
