Women's rights general conversations - Thread 6

Continuation of Thread 5.

There is so much excellent information and so many active discussions on FWR that I wondered if it would be useful to have a thread to sort of "cross-fertilise" between them - airing little thoughts or vignettes that wouldn't themselves merit their own thread, to highlight other posts/threads of particular interest or to point to notable developments on fast-moving threads so that casual observers know where to look.

(For example, "the X thread has meandered onto a fascinating discussion of Y" or "Poster P's amazing analysis on thread Z might have relevance to the scenario in thread W" or "Has anybody noticed this recurring theme that keeps coming up??" or even "Random bloke asked me to smile while I was choosing onions in the supermarket, grr"- that sort of thing).

Boiledbeetle · 31/07/2023 08:52

Room for a little one? (Although given the Tunnocks I've eaten lately not so little!)

Place marking? Me?

Why yes! Yes I am!

BinturongsSmellOfPopcorn · 31/07/2023 08:56

Teacake or wafer?

StephanieSuperpowers · 31/07/2023 08:57

Hopefully both. No bigotry on this thread.

Both!. Although I'm more a wafer than tea cake fan I am looking more like a teacake!

Wibble wobble wibble wobble!

I'm channelling my inner weeble!

weebles wobble but they don't fall down!

I've just read the age UK guide to being trans! The thought of gender reassignment surgery at an older age just has me thinking of all the additional problems that will cause. And there will be some women reading it thinking that by the new rules in this alternate universe they are now transgender because they cross dress because they like wearing jeans and a t-shirt.

People! <points urgently back to old thread> it's not dead yet, we can't just leave it twitching 😳

Boiledbeetle · 31/07/2023 12:01

I'm multitasking I'll loop back to it momentarily! I'm just here as there a queue for the toilets on the old one.

Pedant alert!
Momentarily means 'for a moment' in British English not 'in a moment'. It is the other way round in American English.

MouseMinge · 31/07/2023 13:23

I've read a tiny bit of the Age UK thing. Enough to know they've been stonewalled. Are we now in a position that we not only need to leave the kids alone, we also have to stop confusing the elderly? Hey, Stonewall, leave those grandparents alone!

MouseMinge · 31/07/2023 13:25

An eighty-odd year old probably thinks a pansexual is someone who is turned on by kitchen cooking appliances, ffs. They really don't need to have this made up bollocks foisted upon them.

Just like every other female, then. Truthfully, that's the problem with 'presenting as a woman' - it's perfectly possible to have short hair, jeans, T-shirt-boots, and no makeup and still be recognised as a woman. Because your presentation has nothing to do with sex (thank gods). The problem is, when a MtF does it, he still looks like a male. Hence the 150's look and drag acts; they have to find a way to distinguish themselves from being boring, standard men.

Having said all that, I would much rather someone put on a T-shirt/lipstick and say "I am trans," than agree to irreversible surgery for the same result. It shouldn't override the single-sex exemptions either way.
