WOMEN SPEAKING - Let Women Speak - Australia & NZ tour

Despite many pleas, the original thread was hijacked by people (mostly from the UK) who displayed ZERO interest in watching, appreciating and discussing the ACTUAL SPEECHES:

Let Women SPeak - Australia & NZ tour

IMHO This was profoundly disrespectful to the OP, @ZombieMumEB, who said she hoped to attend some of the events, to Mumsnetters (particularly Australians and New Zealanders) who wanted to discuss the speeches and to the brave, articulate and impassioned women who gave the speeches.

This thread is to discuss the WOMEN SPEAKING.

Please direct complaints about KJK to one of the perennial "We hate Posie" threads.

If you are a UK socfem with a genuine interest in discussing the socfem approach to re-educating the Labour Party, ie. rather than complaining about KJK, start a new thread. This one is about and for the women in Australia and New Zealand who spoke at the #LetWomenSpeak events

Rather than engage with derailments, can we please agree to report them or ignore them?

@gwrachod you are being asked to move to the other thread and ‘defend yourself’ there. Please do so.

Gladly, as soon as women here stop addressing me, or posting outrageous lies relating to what I've said.

Commenting here as you have addressed me, so I am replying. You see how it works?

If the conversation goes back to women talking about what the NZ women wanted to say, I'll happily butt out.

But if people keep saying things to me, or about the wider situation, or posting nonsense about the things I've said, then I'll join in.

Is that clear enough?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/03/2023 11:50

or about the wider situation

How can people talk about an event which didn't happen without talking about the "wider situation"?

gwrachod · 25/03/2023 11:56

Ereshkigalangcleg · 25/03/2023 11:50

or about the wider situation

How can people talk about an event which didn't happen without talking about the "wider situation"?

This thread is for platforming what the NZ woman wanted to say, right?

And if anyone ever actually does that, I'll respect it.

If people speak directly to me, or about what I've written, I'll respond

If people are talking about nonsense like claiming that the violence in NZ is the fault of left wing UK feminists, then yes, I will comment.

If others use the thread for what they keep telling me it's for, you won't hear a peep out of me.

Still commenting here, btw, as you're still addressing me.

Apollo441 · 25/03/2023 11:56

If you too are appalled by KJK's treatment and the deranged media presentation then do something positive. Go to the Let Women Speak website and donate. It's on the front page.
I feel better already.

Your first and third responses to my first and third points are nothing but a deflection - you know full well that it was not as you say, "good enough for me" because I simply expected her to say "you are not welcome." It doesn't matter why they were there, all reasonable people would tell this scum "we don't want your support." This is simply what people do whenever they pop up, so use plausible deniability all you want

As for your second response, to my second point what do you mean about terms and conditions? Actually I don't condone violence to women but you appear too? What about Lidia Thorpe - or did she "walk into the fist?"

To all interested posters who are wondering what on earth is going on - I urge you to research crypto fascist infiltration tactics and the modern far right. It's an eye opening journey, promise.

Villagetoraiseachild · 25/03/2023 13:13

Thank you @Whaeanui for all your contributions here.
This is your country and this is your moment and your weekend.
Let it not be stolen from you.
Please regroup and record your speeches for posterity.
It is too important to be silenced by violence.
We wholeheartedly support you.
And thank you Auntie Hei Hei for speaking out regardless.

Hepwo · 25/03/2023 13:40

Farkin hell. Crypto fascists!

It can't possibly be that some people just don't rate some left wing policies very highly?

UtopiaPlanitia · 25/03/2023 14:01

Thanks to the posters who pasted links to the substack article and the Twitter content of NZ women who attended the LWS event. I desperately wanted to hear what they had to say and I’m glad to be able to read/listen to some of it.

@Whaeanui Thank you for the context and additional information you’ve provided on this thread. I’m glad to hear your Mum is all right too Flowers

Farkin hell. Crypto fascists!

Yup. It’s a kind of Freudian catch 22. If you say fascist stuff you’re a fascist, BUT … if you don’t say anything fascist you’re still a fascist, because you’re clearly hiding your fascism.

And if you say you’re against fascists, you’re still a fascist, because you’re not saying it loudly enough and often enough.

And if you hold your meetings in a public place you are most definitely a fascist, because known fascists turned up to the public place and gatecrashed your meeting. Owing to the place being, y’know, public.

There is, of course, also the ‘may have stood next to actual fascists’ or possibly even talked to them. Or, horror, let them answer questions on a podcast.

I would be fascinated to know what on Earth KJK originally said to make the purity spiral maidens froth at the mouth like this. I suspect it was nothing more than the kind of right-of-centre views that are, in fact, WORIAD. Plus the fact that, in a most unwomanly way, she enjoys public speaking and saying what she thinks.

Where it ends is in Auckland. Where woman seeking to speak and let their voices be heard are now the ones called ‘fascist’. Because now, the word originally applied to mass murderers simply means ‘person who needs to shut up’.

Thank you to the brave women in Auckland.

Bosky · 25/03/2023 15:24

Thank you to everyone who has tried to keep this thread on track through all the horrific developments in NZ.

Personally, I do not think it is "derailing" to post links to videos and tweets where women who wanted to speak at Auckland, or wanted to hear women speak at Auckland, describe the terror and physical injuries they suffered due to the violence and threats they were subjected to.

Replies that seek to place blame for what happened at Auckland on anyone except the perpetrators belong in the new thread kindly started by Helleofabore:

"Standing for Women - NZ tour discussion. (To prevent further derailing of the thread for centring the women)"

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4770726-standing-for-women-nz-tour-discussion-to-prevent-further-derailing-of-the-thread-for-centring-the-women

DameMaud make a really helpful list summarising the WOMEN SPEAKING at Canberra with a link to the live stream - a wonderful template for the rest of us to follow!

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4769956-women-speaking-let-women-speak-australia-nz-tour?page=1&reply=124891588

Before the events in NZ completely drown out the voices of women in Australia, who would like to volunteer to make a similar list and Summary of speeches for one of the other #LetWomenSpeak events in Australia?

Links to the Live Streams are in the OP.

ps. I hope that NZ women who were prevented from speaking at Auckland and Wellington will be given the opportunity to have their voices heard at future events and/or on video and feel that this thread would be an appropriate place to post links and discussion.

Really? You don't feel you have a moral duty to do this? Or don't want to?

No I don't feel a moral duty to denounce Nazis! The everyone I don't like is a Nazi meme made that into a joke.

Wow. Sorry, I disagree. I and many others will always oppose those who refuse to specifically tell Nazis they are not welcome.

Do I need to put a sign on my front door?

They were Nazis. You know it. You just are being disingenuous now. I have not condoned the violence of the TRAs and don't - at all. I thoroughly, utterly totally denounce it. Another lie.

That doesn't mean I don't think KJK is absolutely wrong not to have denounced them specifically. I can still abhor the violence directed toward her and find her decision to not tell Nazis they are not welcome abhorrent.

But how about you? Will you now denounce the Nazis? Now I have made it clear I thoroughly denounce the violence of the TRa beta boys?

Oh wait, you already said you won't.

Either you are intellectually deficient, have been brainwashed because of your understandable strong emotion about this cause (which I share), or you have an agenda, outside of securing women's rights/ safeguarding children.

If the latter is the case, understand you will not be successful, people will see where you're trying to lead them... eventually.

Thank you to the brave women in Auckland.

It's really not difficult.

Many women have explained how other campaigners do it.

The far right need calling out, by all of us, every time they try to infiltrate or gain legitimacy via other movements.

Fascist ideas are very much NOT WORIADS, that's the whole point.

If you claim not to understand any of this, you are either very politically naive, or you want the far right to gain legitimacy.

(Please note, I have kept my word to not post on this thread if people are talking about what they claim the thread to be for. But the post I'm replying to is spreading a bullshit narrative making out it's difficult to stand against the far right. This is bollocks, and not what this thread is meant to be about either, so I am replying).

You really have to read the full thing. But this is one segment

All I wanted to do today was speak & try raise some awareness for how some of these contentious issues are affecting women and children. I didn’t want to hurt anyone, or scream at anyone or even really engage in protest activity. I just wanted a platform to say my piece.

I knew the Labour Party, the Greens and the Mainstream Media had whipped this up into some kind of fascist, Nazi, anti-trans hysteria. But I still always had faith and belief that our police force would do their duty and provide a barrier between us and the counter-protesters. I still believed that even if some really wacky people turned up, the police would keep us safe.

I underestimated the hysteria that had been whipped up. I underestimated the police. I never seriously thought I would be in real actual danger attending a speaking event in New Zealand. I think Heather Du Plessis Allen asked earlier in the week – why was KJK invited here? Wasn’t it just inviting drama? Well let me answer that. KJK was invited here because she is me. She is a mother, and a woman who is fed up with the erosion of female-only spaces, fed up with being called a ‘menstruator’ or ‘pregnant person’ and fed up with watching young gender non-confirming or homosexual children being sterilised and mutilated. KJK was going to give ME a voice, a platform. KJK was invited here because I wanted to listen to her, and last time I checked, I’m allowed to do that.

Bosky · 25/03/2023 16:46

Please would people not go back to older posts, ie. before my recent post, in order to reply to old posts and use them as a pretext to continue derailing and disruption?

You know very that there is now a thread dedicated to that sort of discussion:

"Standing for Women - NZ tour discussion. (To prevent further derailing of the thread for centring the women)"

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4770726-standing-for-women-nz-tour-discussion-to-prevent-further-derailing-of-the-thread-for-centring-the-women

Can we draw a line under this please and take the discussion to the new thread?

There is no excuse now to continue it on this thread.

Having seen the videos, I'm just considering how incredibly hard it would have been for NZ women to stand up and tell their stories or voice their concerns in front of even a well managed and cheerful counter protest in Auckland, let alone the violent antagonistic mob we saw.
To be able to say 'I am worried that my daughter wants to remove her breasts when she has multiple MH diagnoses and no one is questioning it'; 'I fear for young women who are desperate to be kind but cannot see what hard fought for rights they are throwing away'; 'women are losing words to describe ourselves', 'this is a movement sterilising autistic and gay kids', 'no men in women’s sports', 'keep prisons single sex' against a sea of baby pink and blue.

My heart goes out to them today as they come to terms with the extraordinary demonstration of hostility they have experienced, knowing that even their opinions make them unsafe.
