WOMEN SPEAKING - Let Women Speak - Australia & NZ tour

Despite many pleas, the original thread was hijacked by people (mostly from the UK) who displayed ZERO interest in watching, appreciating and discussing the ACTUAL SPEECHES:

Let Women SPeak - Australia & NZ tour

IMHO This was profoundly disrespectful to the OP, @ZombieMumEB, who said she hoped to attend some of the events, to Mumsnetters (particularly Australians and New Zealanders) who wanted to discuss the speeches and to the brave, articulate and impassioned women who gave the speeches.

This thread is to discuss the WOMEN SPEAKING.

Please direct complaints about KJK to one of the perennial "We hate Posie" threads.

If you are a UK socfem with a genuine interest in discussing the socfem approach to re-educating the Labour Party, ie. rather than complaining about KJK, start a new thread. This one is about and for the women in Australia and New Zealand who spoke at the #LetWomenSpeak events

Rather than engage with derailments, can we please agree to report them or ignore them?

Then . . .tweet, tweet!!

Diversion has been rescinded for the Granny basher.
As "Emily (victim's pseudonym)" stated in her interview with Sean Plunket on The Platform regarding her assault at the Let Women Speak event in Auckland: "Apparently, someone had mixed some papers up... He [the basher] shouldn't have been granted diversion."

Yes, he certainly deserves to be in prison for the level of violence he used on a frail old lady. It's a disgrace that he was offered the let off in the first place.

Also KJK will be returning to NZ :

Keen-Minshull revealed she is planning a return to New Zealand. Rubashkyn faces his assault charge at the Auckland District Court on September 20, and Keen-Minshull is organising another Let Women Speak event outside his court hearing. Her visitor’s visa has been approved.

The police watchdog said it has received 162 complaints about policing of the event; of these, 34 were from people who attended.

The IPCA review will look at police conduct at the protest and planning for the event.
The authority's chair Judge Kenneth Johnston told Morning Report some of the complaints were from people who attended the rally while others were "instigated by media reports".

"They are serious complaints and need to be looked into."

A young LGBTQ rights activist who was filmed punching a 71-year-old woman in the head during the heated Posie Parker counter-protest in Auckland this year has pleaded guilty to assault.

The 21-year-old Gisborne resident, who continues to have interim name suppression, appeared in Auckland District Court today.

Judge Debra Bell granted defence lawyer Emma Priest’s request to not yet enter a conviction until sentencing. A date for that hearing has not yet been scheduled.

The charge against the then-20-year-old LGBTQ rights activist came after footage circulated widely on Twitter showing a heated meeting of the two groups that day. In the video, he can be seen striking the woman in the face.

Court documents obtained by the Herald today note that the defendant and the victim did not know each other before the raucous gathering.

“About 11am an unknown person began pulling out pegs placed in the ground to separate the two groups,” police noted in the summary of facts for the case. “The group protesting against the speaker Posie Parker pushed over a metal fence and began approaching the group supporting her.

“The victim put her hands out to stop the group and made contact with a female from the opposing group, the same one that had been removing the pegs.”

The defendant approached the victim after noticing the physical contact, court documents state.

“The victim turned towards the defendant who responded by punching the victim three times in the head area,” police noted.

“In explanation, the defendant stated he believed the victim had assaulted a fellow protester and that the victim was going to assault him next.”

Assault carries a maximum possible sentence of one year’s imprisonment. The man’s lawyer indicated today that she intends to seek a discharge without conviction. She also requested a referral for restorative justice, in which the defendant and the victim could meet in a controlled setting if the victim agreed.

The victim told the Herald today she is ready for the meeting.

“I want to meet up and have my say with him, but the thing which sticks in my craw is even before we have had that face-to-face restorative meeting his lawyer is making submissions for dismissal without conviction and permanent name suppression,” she said.

“He hasn’t said sorry and I feel the rights of victims are not upheld.

“It’s like the victim has totally been forgotten out of the justice system.”

The victim said she would look her attacker in the eye and ask him why he attacked an old lady who was not causing him any grief.

“I will let him have his say and then go from there,” she said.

The contortions that the legal system is willing to go through to protect people who cannot control their actions and react with violence.

It sounds absolutely absurd that a 70 year old woman would 'attack him next'.

If I remember correctly the person who was pulling up the pegs was a transwoman. Though it's been a while since I seen the film.

So he's claiming self defence as mitigation 😠

I dont understand why the defendant is allowed to have their name with held.

Or are you not legally an adult until 21 in NZ? And although that now was 20 at the time.

I'm struggling to see how him breaking the lady's eye socket is simply assault. Do they not have GBH, or an equivalent in New Zealand?

In any case, they seem determined to let the bastard off.

Also what visible is how under resourced by the police it was.

This is a good video as it also captured Thomas Sewell stating clearly that he was not there at the event to support the women’s group.

It was widely discussed at the time that a group with the weekly permit to protest was there. They were the earlier megaphone using group discussing drag story time and sex education etc. However, that group was generally ignored by posters who needed to push the incorrect analysis that the neo nazi group was there to support Let Women Speak.

Thanks for posting it.
