WOMEN SPEAKING - Let Women Speak - Australia & NZ tour

Despite many pleas, the original thread was hijacked by people (mostly from the UK) who displayed ZERO interest in watching, appreciating and discussing the ACTUAL SPEECHES:

Let Women SPeak - Australia & NZ tour

IMHO This was profoundly disrespectful to the OP, @ZombieMumEB, who said she hoped to attend some of the events, to Mumsnetters (particularly Australians and New Zealanders) who wanted to discuss the speeches and to the brave, articulate and impassioned women who gave the speeches.

This thread is to discuss the WOMEN SPEAKING.

Please direct complaints about KJK to one of the perennial "We hate Posie" threads.

If you are a UK socfem with a genuine interest in discussing the socfem approach to re-educating the Labour Party, ie. rather than complaining about KJK, start a new thread. This one is about and for the women in Australia and New Zealand who spoke at the #LetWomenSpeak events

Rather than engage with derailments, can we please agree to report them or ignore them?

This is the only right result for a nation that values tolerance, the ability to debate, and free speech.

Free speech is not an easy principle to uphold, but it is worth protecting. Without it democracy dies.

@DameMaud Thanks so much for an excellent beginning in summarising what the women at the NZ & AUS events have been speaking about 👏

If we can keep this thread on topic as per the OP, I think it will be a great resource (and very interesting).

SulisMinerva · 24/03/2023 17:20

DameMaud, thank you for doing that event. I’m still trying to catch up on the speeches so far. Those women who step forward to speak in the face of that mob are so brave.

You're welcome Sulis.
It's good to have one thread just focussing on the women speaking isn't it? * *

Whaeanui · 24/03/2023 17:28

Please read OP and keep this thread focused on the events.

Canberra 23/3/23

That is fantastic! I am going to watch Canberra again with that list to hand.

It makes so much difference when there are so many women speaking to have something to help you to focus on each one in turn ❤

Kia Ora & great thread, Maori wahine here joining to keep up with all this, I know people back home speaking and involved so appreciate this thread.

Kim Hill is always rude. Honestly I’m glad our gross media is being exposed internationally for who and what they are- NZ Herald in particular 🤮🤮🤮 they have a columnist who called Polynesians leeches! Buckle up guys, you are going to be shocked at how bad they are still… I hope Rex helps out with security!

Thank you for joining in! I hope that if the NZ speakers refer to local issues or politicians that you can help the rest of us with some context?

Rex is fab! ❤

This NZ radio host interviewed KJK the other day and actually let her speak and listened. He's also interviewed a NZ feminist writer and a representative of the Jewish Council of NZ. They don't think she's a nazi.

Anyway, he's written and broadcast an Ode to Posie Parker Grin

I watched the feminist one yesterday and thought it was very good so will have a look at the others too.

TrombonesAreNotBones · 24/03/2023 20:34

Thank you for this thread.

I note with interest that one derailleur movement has already been attempted and ignored, well done wims.

Onwards.

Let Women Speak NZ 2023

We're here to welcome Kellie-Jay Keen to New Zealand for her Let Women Speak tour. We will speak, we will be heard, and we won't back down!

https://twitter.com/l_o_u_t

(I think mentioned on other thread but thought worth posting again)

IwantToRetire · 24/03/2023 20:51

A poll on a New Zealand web site shows 56% in favour of allowing the LWS events to take place. (at about mid day 24 March 2023)

Also interesting comments - not sure if they are being monitored.

I have followed KJKs #LetWomenSpeak youtube speakers corner events for a long, long time. They are incredibly special events, I never know what the women who attend and speak are going to say but I am always left awed by the depth of feelings and breadth of experience; I can be laughing one minute, tearful the next. IF you haven't already, have a browse of some of the past yt videos.

Women of all cultures, all colours, all religions or none, all ages. The only 'rule' is they have to be female and they can speak about any subject. It is a public space, we cannot stop anyone from being there, even those who we oppose. Free speech means just that, sometimes people say things we don't like. They have no right to STOP us speaking, though.

KJKs Terf Talk Tuesday is an opportunity to phone in and talk, this means women (and men) from around the world can talk, I've heard some incredible chats.

I attended the Glasgow #LetWomenSpeak event with friends. We travelled together and stuck together because we were scared after reading that TRAs, antifa and furries Shock (convention same weekend) would be there to scream, rant, spit, drown out speakers, intimidate, push, grab and do anything to shut women up. We had watched previous #LetWomenSpeak events in Brighton, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol where this had happened so yes, we were anxious but this issue is SO important to us for different, personal reasons.

Some of us have school age girls who don't want to be gaslit to accept boys in their toilets and changing rooms, some have aged mums who deserve intimate care from females not larping males. We recognise that women prisoners are already punished by prison and do not deserve further punishment to be housed with males, nor so the female officers deserve to be made to intimately search a male larping as a woman. We are concerned that our children are being groomed to think that they can be born in the wrong body when it is more likely they may be gender non conforming or grow up to be gay/lesbian. We accept that adults can make whatever choices they want, but leave the children be.

We were horrified and baffled by the Scottish Government's tireless pursuit of the Gender Recognition Reform Bill. Nicola Sturgeon and her SNP and even members of Liberal Democrats, Labour, Greens were all supporting a Bill which would have devastating ramifications to women of Scotland. It passed, on 22 December, but ultimately led to the demise of Nicola Sturgeon and she resigned soon after. Incredibly, many SNP supporters (who did not agree with the GRR Bill) were very thankful when the Westminster Parliament stopped the Bill becoming law in Scotland. Never thought I'd see that day Shock. We are living in interesting times.

This looks awful.

Whaeanui · 24/03/2023 22:10

I’m so glad I don’t live there anymore, after watching that live feed I’m shaking

Whaeanui · 24/03/2023 22:10

Jesus. They’re completely swamping her and the police have abandoned them: I hope she makes it out

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/03/2023 22:11

Oh god, I don't know how she hasn't run away screaming!
This is shameful!

FannyCann · 24/03/2023 22:12

This is appalling.

They really don't want to let women speak.

This is obviously the strategy - no police just let them get mobbed.

Let the mob do their dirty work.

MarchXX · 24/03/2023 22:14

Jesus Christ, Aukland is insane Shock
#LetWomenSpeak

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/03/2023 22:14

Security man has had red liquid thrown all over him. I think it'sgot KJ too

Whaeanui · 24/03/2023 22:15

NZ police deserted me when I rang them for help from an abusive man when I was 11, and nothing has changed now. I’m truly ashamed. What a disgusting place New Zealand is. Thank you UK for taking us in, I’ll never regret leaving that shithole

FOJN · 24/03/2023 22:15

JFC what the hell is going on in Auckland.

Whaeanui · 24/03/2023 22:16

What’s going on is people in NZ hate women.

EpicChaos · 24/03/2023 22:18

It just goes to prove how frightened they are of her though... All those big hairy men and that's just the girls, having to surround her in that fashion to make themselves seem like big hard cases.
I wonder if they'd be so brave 1 -1 with a proper man?

Clymene · 24/03/2023 22:21

BoreOfWhabylon · 24/03/2023 22:14

Oh god is that what that is in her hair?

Just a reminder that New Zealand has the worst domestic violence rates of any OPEC country.
