This is very important to read for all parents

I know it's the daily mail but this is very important about a man who talks about his journey. It's really good reporting for once! It's about his trans journey and de transition. Counselling and mental health support is vital for all..

I'm de-transitioning and blame 'woke' culture for influencing teens mol.im/a/11691635 via dailym.ai/android

It’s in the daily mail is your first clue and yes it’s transphobic click bait .

Can you explain why you think is transphobic?

Because it’s promoting ignorant and damaging narratives about trans people. That being transgender is some kind of “woke” contagion that teenagers are picking up from social media. It’s absolutely classic transphobic propaganda.

Petronus · 30/01/2023 22:26

I think the phrase ‘essential reading’ is doing a lot of heavy lifting in this context.

Yingyamgwingwen · 30/01/2023 22:27

Yes I don't think using the term " woke culture " is helpful. But it's their words. The daily mail has been reporting on this man for a while now during many operations etc. Surely the fact he has done to his body. Suggests that maybe he is now seeking or his in some kind of counselling which might be a big part of this change? It would be very easy to judge and not to listen to his story

Anyways I ought to know better than to get dragged into a debate about trans issues on mumsnet 🙄. Shall be bowing out for the sake of my sanity.

RichardBarrister · 30/01/2023 22:28

Poor Oli got caught up in the idea that you can be anything you want regardless of material reality.

He was vulnerable and believed the messages promoted hard on social media that transition would be the solution to all his problems.

Others that have got caught up in this have also ended up permanently harmed, having removed healthy body parts and taken hormones that cause serious health issues including strokes and liver damage.

If one parent sees this and it helps one child or vulnerable person avoid going through this, it will have been worth sharing.

Yingyamgwingwen · 30/01/2023 22:29

As i said I typed quickly. The daily mail is not essential reading but the article is very insightful. Will stick to the Economist and financial times in future 😁 and private eye for an in depth report of corruption

You have worded it much better than me. ✅

So do you have any evidence it is not a social contagion? Why are there clusters of trans identifying children in schools that pay Stonewall to promote gender ideology? Where were all the trans children 10/20 years ago? Why are girls and autistic children significantly over represented in referrals to gender clinics? Why is there not a commensurate number of older women transitioning, it’s mainly men?

I just hope he doesn't get a lot of abuse for his decision.

So do you have any evidence it is not a social contagion? < proving a negative is basically impossible.

Do you have any evidence that I don't have six toes?
Do you have any evidence that people don't become gay because they drank 7-up?
Do you have any evidence that Saddam Hussein wasn't stockpiling WMD?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 30/01/2023 22:40

Social contagion is an evidenced fact that's often denied by those who don't care about children giving up their future fertility and ending up needing drugs and surgery for the rest of their lives as they desperately try to change their bodies.
The Cass Review has started to unpick this catastrophe in the NHS by insisting on an evidenced approach to these vulnerable children that takes account of all their other mental health issues and vulnerabilities.

It's a useful article for parents to read Op - thanks for sharing it.

But his experience isn't a case of social contagion is it? He's 30 not 13.

No apology from him for appropriating another race and culture I see. Just more attention grabbing as detransition seems to be the new click bait thing

Groutyonehereagain · 30/01/2023 22:49

Thanks for posting @Yingyamgwingwen . Everyone needs to what’s going on. There’s something terrible happening out there. Children and adults are being groomed to believe they are trans. It’s like a religious cult.

I found it helpful Op- I hope he gets the mental health support he probably should have had at the start of all this. It’s

Yingyamgwingwen · 30/01/2023 22:54

No the whole Korean boy band thing is problematic and I agree. But seeing as he jumped from this to transitioning then back again. It's clear that he might be struggling with mental health issues.

For a small minority it could be a click bait issue. But it still could be helpful

It’s not just his story though is it, as you are claiming it is essential reading for all parents, as if it has some kind of widespread generalisability. Hence promoting ignorance .
