How is it voluntary if she'll be arrested if she doesn't attend?

Honestly Arabella - it the Humpty Dumpty version of policing - "When I use a word," Humpty Dumpty said, in rather a scornful tone, "it means just what I choose it to mean—neither more nor less

ScreamingMeMe · 21/11/2022 19:12

I have asked the police officers in the other thread. It makes no sense to me.

Oh dear. That look on Kellie's face and the politeness don't bode well for Brighton police.

Rightsraptor · 21/11/2022 19:14

Which is the other thread @ScreamingMeMe ?

FOJN · 21/11/2022 19:14

Voluntary: done, given, or acting of one's own free will.

Coercion: the practice of persuading someone to do something by using force or threats.

KJK seem so practiced at dealing with them now.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 21/11/2022 19:17

According to google Compared to the national crime rate, Brighton's crime rate is at 94%. Violent crime makes up 33.8% of all crimes reported in the postcode area. The total number of "violent crime" is 27.0k, and this number has increased by 10.3% when compared year-over-year in the period of October 2021 - September 2022.

Spending hours investigating KJK makes great sense in the face of these trivial figures 🙄

RoseslnTheHospital · 21/11/2022 19:17

Good luck to Brighton police, I feel they are going to need it. I hope KJK will wipe the floor with them.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 21/11/2022 19:18

what a fucking waste of absolutely everyone's time

She's currently blasting Je ne regrette rien on her livestream.

Imo, it's an appalling use/misuse of police resources!
Was she being untoward about paedo's again? rolls eyes skywards!
Anyhoo, we're all right behind you Kellie!

Incidentally, i do wish there was the ability to ' like ' other peoples posts - i agree with everything already said on this thread, at the point i've clicked on to reply. I'm sure i'll agree with a lot more after i hit the post button too, just a shame there's no way to signal that.

The woman on the phone was very chatty and friendly considering she was talking to a hate crimer!

ArabellaScott · 21/11/2022 19:27

www.cps.gov.uk/legal-guidance/homophobic-biphobic-and-transphobic-hate-crime-prosecution-guidance

She needs to have actually committed a crime, though, doesn't she? I'm not really finding what the crime is supposed to be.

PC on the phone says:

'the crime is use of words or behaviour to stir up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation'

From the guidance:

'The offence is committed if a person uses threatening words or behaviour, or displays any written material, which is threatening, if he intends thereby to stir up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation. Threatening is the operative word, not abusive or insulting. Possession, publication or distribution of inflammatory material is also an offence.'

'The defendant must intend to stir up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation; recklessness is not enough; and the behaviour must be threatening. So using abusive or insulting behaviour intended to stir up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation does not constitute an offence, nor does using threatening words likely to stir up hatred on the grounds of sexual orientation.

Conduct or material which only stirs up ridicule or dislike, or which simply causes offence, would not meet the requisite threshold required by the Act, i.e. hatred. So, for example, the offences do not, and are not intended to extend per se to childish name calling, or the telling of jokes, or the preaching of religious doctrine, unless those activities are threatening or intended to stir up hatred'

Soontobe60 · 21/11/2022 19:30

I bet that PC wishes she hadn’t been on duty the day that complaint came in 😂😂😂

FOJN · 21/11/2022 19:40

The invitation to a voluntary interview is just to give them the opportunity to get you to incriminate yourself. If they had evidence to reasonably suspect a crime had been committee they would just arrest KJK and bring her in for questioning. It's such time wasting bullshit.

I wonder if she will refuse to go and force their hand or whether she will go and give a prepared statement. Can suspects request a copy of the recorded interview? Maybe we'll see that on her channel soon.

EpicChaos · 21/11/2022 19:45

The thought/question occurs...
If Brighton police have viewed footage of the event in Brighton, which they must have, surely, in order to harrass Kellie Jay, they will be using their own
initiative ( if they have any - doubtful! ) to arrest tra's for their threatening behaviour, won't they?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 21/11/2022 19:46

That woman sounds like she's trying to get her to upgrade her mobile phone package rather than investigate her for so called "hate speech".

It is a shocker, when you listen to what she said in Brighton and she said nothing of the sort.

Do you really think that there will be evidence of an intent to use threatening words or behaviour to incite hatred against people of a specific sexual orientation? Not just abusive or insulting, but threatening, and intentionally so? I guess we'll see.

It's not a shocker that the Brighton loonies would do this.

Was she defending the rights of women?
I was under the impression that the po-po had been told in no uncertain terms to stop getting involved I hurty feel and start investigating assaults, robberies, rapes etc

Toseland · 21/11/2022 20:18

That's not nice.
Interesting to hear the Brighton police are running about a month behind in their casework.
I can imagine KJK's statement will be brilliant!

stealtheatingtunnocks · 21/11/2022 20:27

That complaint has been playing Desk Hide And Seek for a month - the officers have been swapping. It around saying “no way, I’m not doing it” and that PW has drawn the short straw.

She sounded very hesitant to me. “Hum, erm, ah’m “ isn’t what I’d expect from a hate crime accusation
