Jean Hatchett article on Eddy Izzard attending a Labour Sheffield fundraiser, uses women's toilets, run up to his election as a candidate, uses women's toilets while there.

Well done Labour.

Izzard is a red rag to a bull for me personally.

He built his brand on being a guy who liked makeup, heels and dresses.
He was refreshing.
These aren't women's clothes they are mine.

Then he started with the girls mode/boy mode and demanding female pronouns and the girl mode makes me a women bullshit.

Obnoxious male privilege in action

Disgusting.

FeralWitch · 01/10/2022 12:30

Prick.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 01/10/2022 12:34

I feel so angry that Eddy is going to be selected to represent Sheffield and I can't bear the thought of what self serving claptrap he might campaign for as an MP - spearheading the removal of rights and safeguarding from women.

the squabbling about who feminists right is in my mind.

is it Jean and Julie who take the time to go and listen to this disappointing dullard, get evidence of him beaching women’s boundaries and share it. Or is it posy Parker who would likely have wedged herself in the door jam and said loudly to his face that going into the loos would make women u comfortable and please don’t do that.

or is if Izzard expanding the band with of being a woman?

or is it the women who escorted him where he didn’t belong in order to be inclusive and kind?

or the Labour women who are objecting with their votes?

or Rozi duffield threatening to leave her party over this silliness?

or me, watching and admiring the bravery of some of the women doi g useful things in all different ways and feeling like I need to do more

No man can expand the bandwidth of being a woman. He can only expand the bandwidth of being a man.

NitroNine · 01/10/2022 12:57

Muslims are the second-largest religious group in Sheffield: 7.74% of the population or 42,801 people (2020 census).

Muslim women in Sheffield - & of course the women of the much smaller Orthodox Jewish community - should not be faced with the prospect of an MP who actively & knowingly seeks to exclude them from public spaces (outwith their places of worship). Nor of course should any of the many other women who self-exclude because of the behaviour of people like Izzard; nor should people face being called bigots &/or transphobes because they don’t believe in GenderWoo; but it’s the clearest clash & any interrogation of it demonstrates Izzard’s selfishness, inflexibility & their unsuitability for holding office on the grounds they so absolutely privilege their wishes over the needs of [vulnerable] women. Doubtless many sitting MPs put their own interests ahead of those of their constituents - but that makes them unfit to hold office rather than meaning Izzard should join them.

I’d be tempted to relabel every toilet with a dick picture and dick and a dick crossed out

I agree. I loved Eddie for being who he was and wearing what he wanted and being fluid and not conforming to stereo types.

Just feels like he’s confirming to a stereo type of a woman now.

Have to say though I don’t particularly like how this article is written, thought I can put my finger on exactly what I don’t like about it.

Motnight · 01/10/2022 13:06

Oh Eddie what have you become?

Clue: Not a woman.

TheClogLady · 01/10/2022 13:08

This is where changing pronouns leads. Barracker was right.

Replace all the little men silhouettes with the sort of penis graffiti scrawled on 1980s bus stops? I’m down with that.

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 01/10/2022 13:12

One odd things I’ve noticed in relation to Eddie Izzard too is the press doing multiple cheesy “look at Eddies in her glamour green floral dress from Zara” pieces.

like now Eddie identifies as a woman we need to gush over eddies choice of clothing and pretend Eddie looks amazing in whatever is being worn (not saying he looked awful, in fact the dresses are ok but certainly nothing that requires an article). Feels like a lot of pandering .

Chooksnroses · 01/10/2022 13:14

Eddie Izzard is transgender. She uses female pronouns, and I would have no problem using the loo whilst she or any other transgender woman was in there. I usually lock the cubicle door!

I actually think that this is the press taking the piss without it being too obviously. The Mail have run a series of articles about Izzard's outfits and there's no way that they are being serious.

ErrolTheDragon · 01/10/2022 13:15

Threads about Izzard tend not to last, but as someone who is (probably) going to be standing for Parliament his behaviour is legitimately of public interest.

(Last I heard he's 'relaxed' about pronouns and still takes male acting roles so I don't believe it's possible to 'misgender' him).

And I'm sure you'll be happy to come and explain all that when it causes unnecessary community tensions.

Eddie is standing in the Sheffield Central constituency which has a much younger average age of those eligible to vote. I assume that's to do with the university which has 30,000 students. This will obviously swing things in Eddie's favour.
