Hopeful bump?...
I've never been to one of the meet ups before, I am a bit nervous because my works EDI policies are very protrans.....

I'm not going tomorrow, but hope to be there in June - which I know doesn't really help.

I went to the SFW meet up in Nottingham and it was really uplifting. I got chatting to a young transman so was well back from the speakers (I watched them later on youtube) and you can't see me in any of the footage. Unless you're speaking I imagine you can avoid being caught on camera (as long as you're not at the front.

I hope you have a great day

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 28/05/2022 20:56

I’m not going this week but you’ll be fine, honestly! Everyone’s really friendly.

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 28/05/2022 20:57

Thank you Nancy, that makes me feel better!
I'm going with my DD but she is only 10 and DH wants to come too. He was worried he wouldn't be welcome but I said the opposite, people will love that he is there standing up for woman!

Great that your DH wants to go too, he will be very welcome! There were men there among the women in Nottingham. I think the overriding rule is that if you want to speak the men have to wait until after all the women and girls have had their say.

The women I met in Nottingham were friendly and it was great to meet Kellie-Jay, she has quite the presence as you might expect!

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 28/05/2022 21:28

Oh don't worry he won't want to speak! If I get to me KJK it will make my absolute year!
I'm fairly new to this board but I found it after getting so upset reading story after story about trans rights.
This board has taught me so much, and it has given me the confidence to articulate what I have been feeling for a long time.

You’ll definitely have the chance to meet KJK and she’s likely to be happy to do a selfie with you if you want!

NancyDrawed · 28/05/2022 21:43

I became aware of KJK four years ago, having watched a video someone had linked to on here about cognitive dissonance and it really resonated with me.

I think that that is her strength - plain English truth, none of the softening and blurring of language that we are used to hearing. I still feel like I don't know enough, but have gently chipped away IRL and one of my friends who was very much 'be kind, suicide risk' etc is now very active in campaigning for women and girls rights and spaces and is far braver than me!

Just fyi when you have the time - from 2018!! Bit sweary in places, so probably not suitable to watch with you daughter!

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 28/05/2022 23:17

Thanks for that Nancy. I feel the same about KJK, totally drawn to her. She is such a force, love her

Wow just watched, @NancyDrawed that was 4 years ago. How sad that things are even worse now

The Misogynist Monitors on Twitter are describing this as an ‘anti-trans rally’. I think if they actually turned up to just find a load of women & a few men chatting while a few kids play nearby they’d be quite disappointed.

There’s a description of Mumsnet as the Mammary Mafia which is a new one.

Dear thread monitors, on here, on twitter, on any social media - IT IS NOT ABOUT YOU

There are two things that I would like to ask the masked disruptors:

  1. If you are so proud of what you are doing, why are you afraid to show your face?

  2. If the women speaking about the reality of how this ideology affects them are so wrong, why try to prevent them speaking? Surely it would be a better strategy to let everyone hear them for themselves, so that they can be sure that their own view is correct? Why are you so afraid of people hearing women speak?

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 29/05/2022 11:08

I’ve heard that it’s 1pm today because of the lighter evenings.

Crikey.

T-shirt, anyone?

NotTerfNorCis · 29/05/2022 13:40

A creepy and probably illegal attempt to get the meeting shut down.

I’ve seen police stop off there in the past. They usually have a brief friendly chat with Kellie-Jay & move on.

Its reminiscent of times when I’ve been involved in pro-lesbian protests outside Stonewall events. Stonewall would call the police, the police would duly arrive, have a chat with the organisers & tell Stonewall that we were perfectly within our rights.

NancyDrawed · 29/05/2022 19:01

@OhDearWhyAmIFatterly

Did you go in the end? How was it?

And as for the KJK video from 2018, yes it is a bit depressing that not much has changed, but at least more people are aware of the issue now, who wouldn't have been back then. I tried talking to my sister about it a year or two back and she said I sounded like I was part of some weird conspiracy theory type cult because she hadn't seen anything in mainstream media! I'm biding my time before I try again.

Unfortunately, you are trying to apply logic and common sense to people who appear to fervently resist both. They only care about their worldview being reinforced, and to them disagreement equals hatred.
It's incredible immature and reductive. I do hope many of them will grow out of it in years to come, and may look back on their petulant behaviour with shame, but maybe not.

OhDearWhyAmIFatterly · 29/05/2022 20:09

@NancyDrawed I've just got home and I'm BUZZING it was absolutely brilliant! It was like my brain, my thoughts and my words were all being spoken. I have found my people!

StormyWaterCloud · 30/05/2022 00:22

I went too! It was AWESOME

Foilball · 30/05/2022 08:27

Could anyone give me the context for this?
