MP comes out as transgender

A male Tory MP has released a statement on Twitter that they are transgender, and also that a couple of years ago they were raped.
It's a brave statement.

That is a brave statement to put out. To say in public that you're not okay.

Sounds like he's been through a very traumatic period, I hope he is able to get the help he needs.

I definitely wasn't expecting it to be a middle aged male.

Interesting times for the constituents. Note that a lot of people are not interested in party politics and vote for their MP because they are strong on local issues.

Sorry- Jamie Wallis who I'd never heard of.

According to wiki he had some issues in 2020 because he was director of a sugar daddy website.

The rape is awful but they lied to the electorate opening themselves up to blackmail - this is a representative of parliament who makes legislation. And the way they talk about the car crash sounds like they crashed it into another car - a hit and run but they had PTSD so not responsible for their actions even though they are fine to be voting in parliament?

Yes Jamie was a co owner of a sugar daddy dating site which offered students financial relationships with rich men. HmmJamie denied this initially.

Jess phillips wanted Jamie to resign as a result.

It seems like Jamie needs some time to recover from a traumatic period.

I hope he gets suport to recover from being raped but I don't like the fact he is using it as an excuse for hiscar crash and fleeing the scene.

Also from a BBC article:

They say they want to be trans and has gender dysphoria, recognising that trans is a separate state of being, rather than “I’m a woman and I always have been”.
Seems to have a grasp on reality.
I wish them the very best. A trans MP with a decent grasp of fact and the issues around womens rights could be the best friend women can have. Fingers crossed.
