A male Tory MP has released a statement on Twitter that they are transgender, and also that a couple of years ago they were raped.
It's a brave statement.

Yes, the Mail specifically article says he has not asked for other pronouns to be used.

Mail article specifically says...

Timeforanewoneofthese · 30/03/2022 10:10

@Lovelyricepudding I know - just trying to be optimistic…..

IvyTwines · 30/03/2022 10:11

@springtimeishereagain

Hmm, another man coming out as trans and then we find out he's been involved with sleaze. Sticking to the script so far.
""We can introduce you to your very own sugar daddy and solve your money worries. Whether you're a boy, girl, straight or gay, there's a sugar daddy for you."
PaterPower · 30/03/2022 10:11

He was arrested over the car crash on suspicion of being unfit to drive. I can’t see any update on whether he’s been charged or not. I assume that, by leaving the scene, the police were unable to take drink or drug swipes from him to prove the accusation.

People don’t often crash into lampposts for no reason though, and he’s not offered an explanation (that’s been reported) as to why he came off the road.

I’m not sure that I’d describe any MP that puts themselves in a position where they can be blackmailed and who isn’t prepared to face the consequences of their actions (by running from the scene of a crash) as “brave.”

I also suspect that the statement’s been timed to head off a potential headline in the tabloid press. But I’m realistic cynical like that.

Theunamedcat · 30/03/2022 10:12

Hmmm

fruitbrewhaha · 30/03/2022 10:12

What an excellent upstanding member of the community he is. He appears to be director of 10 companies that have over 800 complaints to trading standards including 20 enforcement visits. He lies about his involvement with a company, lies to the press about it, and then crashes his car and runs away. He was charged with Driving whilst unfit, which in my understanding is a lesser charge to drink driving because they couldn't take sample at the time?

The rape is an awful thing to happen to someone and I hope he is getting the support he needs but it doesn't sound like he is the right person for the job, or perhaps he is like all the other lying self serving MPs we appear to vote in. He is a Boris Johnson loyalist after all.

A trans MP with a decent grasp of fact and the issues around womens rights could be the best friend women can have. Fingers crossed. But who lies and fled the scene and is involved in dodgy companies. OK

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 30/03/2022 10:12

Wikipedia has been updated. 'They' is used throughout the article.

transdimensional · 30/03/2022 10:12

@Signalbox

He seems to have quite a lot going on in his life doesn't he? Labour will be annoyed. Tories once again the more "diverse" party.
Labour has both more women MPs and more ethnic minority MPs than the Tories. However, what Labour are not very good at is electing women as party leader. But perhaps Labour should be pleased by the latest development. It could make it hard for the Tories to attack gender politics at the next election, if indeed the Tories were planning to... Unless of course the MP decides he or she doesn't agree with everything the TRA lobby says, but I'm not sure how likely that is. If TRA get their way then in a few years' time the Tories will indeed boast about having the first trans MP (well - until someone decides that an MP back in the nineteen fifties was "really" trans but didn't tell anyone). But for now they might hold back from that boast, since they have quite a few trans sceptics in their ranks.
EthelTheAardvark · 30/03/2022 10:12

I wonder what he means by he wants to be trans?

Presumably that they are currently presenting as male because this has been kept under wraps but they don't want to carry on like that.

Papayamya · 30/03/2022 10:14

I hope they get the support regarding being raped. Not sure how all are linked mind.

Swayingpalmtrees · 30/03/2022 10:15

Can someone please confirm he ran a sugar daddy website, and he is still in place as an MP????

How on earth was that allowed to happen? It is a massive conflict of interests and a dangerous precedent to set.

80sMum · 30/03/2022 10:17

Poor chap. It was very brave of him to speak out and tell the truth about himself. I hope that will be the beginning of a new and happier phase in his life. I'm thinking that the strain of being an MP is probably not the best thing for him at this time. Perhaps he should resign and concentrate on recovering his mental well-being.

Everyone knows about him now, so there's no longer the stress of living a pretend life. He can be himself, which will most probably mean that "he" will ultimately become "she". I wish him/her well.

Incidentally, I've noticed people have been using the pronoun "they" when speaking about this person. "They" is a plural, so doesn't sound right when used in reference to an individual. Do we perhaps need a new, alternative pronoun that basically means the same as "it" (ie is gender neutral) but refers to a person rather than a thing?

Lovelyricepudding · 30/03/2022 10:17

What? Has Nancy Kelly not condemned him yet for weaponising his trauma?

tabbycatstripy · 30/03/2022 10:17

I hope he gets the support he needs. I wouldn’t want him as my MP given what appears to be a chaotic personal life (nothing to do with being trans or being assaulted) and questionable attitude to women (sugar daddy website?!).

Hoppinggreen · 30/03/2022 10:17

I think Jamie has a lot of issues and I hope they get the help they so clearly need.

How on earth was that allowed to happen? It is a massive conflict of interests and a dangerous precedent to set.

The Sugar-Daddy.net business offered people introductions to wealthy individuals, saying: "We can introduce you to your very own sugar daddy and solve your money worries.

"Whether you're a boy, girl, straight or gay, there's a sugar daddy for you."

Hoppinggreen · 30/03/2022 10:19

They is fine as a pronoun I think either as a choice or of someone is unsure which one to use
We don’t need to make up any more words for it

Lovelyricepudding · 30/03/2022 10:20

If only there was a way you could leave all that behind? Change your name, start afresh with a new identify?

OldCrone · 30/03/2022 10:20

@EthelTheAardvark

Presumably that they are currently presenting as male because this has been kept under wraps but they don't want to carry on like that.

But someone seems to have taken photographs of him 'wanting to be trans'.

There was a close call in April 2020 when someone Blackmailed me, outed me to my father and sent photographs to other family members.

EsmaCannonball · 30/03/2022 10:21

Makes me nostalgic for the days when dodgy MPs used to find god. This is the type that I think of as Tabula Rasa Trans; everything I did before was because I didn't want to be a man; everything I did before can be forgotten because I am now a woman; everyone who judges me now is motivated by hate.

I'm guessing someone who made money out of a sugar daddy website has a very specific, degrading, sexualized view of what a woman is.

Clymene · 30/03/2022 10:21

Wow, that's an excellent example of darvo in action isn't it? And exploitative lying disgraced MP who ran away from the scene of an accident is now positioning himself as a victim?

How stunning and brave Hmm

Jamie Wallis: Bridgend MP 'misled press' over sugar daddy site

Swayingpalmtrees · 30/03/2022 10:22

signal

Wow.

If I was running a website like that past or present, I don't think I would be drawing attention to myself!

Good luck to him. I hope he is supportive of other rape victims and understands their need for penis free spaces.

Very much this

I think he needs therapy and time and is not best suited to being an MP at this time
