A male Tory MP has released a statement on Twitter that they are transgender, and also that a couple of years ago they were raped.
It's a brave statement.

Sounds to me like the tories need to vet their candidates a bit better in wales

Quite - I'm sorry this indidual been raped and blackmail and I hope they get some help- but WTF is a an MP doing running a Pimp website.

Plus having a public offical being blackmailed isn't great and then leaving scene of an accident ins't stella behavior either.

I'm in Wales - he's not my MP - on bbc website my Local A&E has 14 hour waits - I want decent competent people to vote for to improve local services this isn't reassuring at all.

borntobequiet · 30/03/2022 11:18

@2bazookas

I trust all the vaginaMP's won't mind sharing their facilities with him
I believe the women’s facilities in the HOC are fairly inadequate, though perhaps this has been addressed. If not, he as well as they (as in the actual female MPs) might well regret his decision. Though it might make some of them (as in the actual female MPs, damn this pronouns nonsense) better aware how unpleasant it can be to have a sleazy male in what should be a female single sex space.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

Majority of just over a thousand at 2019 election when he was first elected. Bridgend was previously a Labour seat for many years.
Jamie appears to have had a less than glittering career in local politics www.walesonline.co.uk/news/local-news/bridgend-conservative-election-candidate-kicked-17352327

Despite this, according to the Mail article (comments are now appearing, by the way)
He won his seat in Bridgend, Wales, by just 1,000 votes, in part thanks to election manager Gordon Lewis. But in July 2020 it emerged Lewis, 55, was once given a 16-month suspended sentence when he threatened to kill his own son with a knife and a baseball bat. He admitted affray and two charges of common assault in 2015 relating to a violent outburst at a party the year before.

Not an official election agent though, apparently

What is it about these brave and stunning MPs and their dodgy election agents?

Madeleine Moon was the Labour MP ousted by Jamie, if I lived in Bridgend I think I'd be feeling a bit short-changed.

A brave statement to make regarding a highly personal and no doubt traumatic ordeal.
It is striking that a rape victim would willingly participate in a website which sexually exploits the impoverished and vulnerable ie. his alleged co-owning of a 'sugar daddy' website.

Mummyoflittledragon · 30/03/2022 11:22

Thanks DomesticatedZombie. I had no idea these pages existed.

Turningpurple · 30/03/2022 11:23

How many women feel the police are incredibly supportive when they report stalking and harassment.

He is very lucky her got that and the perpetrator got a prison sentence.

SushiShopSearch · 30/03/2022 11:23

@Timeforanewoneofthese why would you think that he's "A trans MP with a decent grasp of fact and the issues around womens rights could be the best friend women can have" ??

Puzzledandpissedoff · 30/03/2022 11:23

He needs to resign, now

He won't do that - after all the least thing said against him, no matter how justified, can now be instantly damned as transphobia

nauticant · 30/03/2022 11:24

If we're going to have a transwoman in the House of Commons representing the ideology to the public, someone like Jamie Wallis might fit the bill nicely.

KatsuKatsu · 30/03/2022 11:24

@Swayingpalmtrees

This happened six months ago.

I wonder why it wasn't shared with the public when it happened to him, and why he waited until he had been involved in a hit and run accident a few months later.

Because its very personal and he might not have wanted to share? No one is obliged to share.
TheAbbotOfUnreason · 30/03/2022 11:26

“I’m trans. Or to be more accurate, I want to be.”

How does that work? I thought you didn’t actually have to do anything except say that you are trans and then you are trans?

WouldBeGood · 30/03/2022 11:26

Sounds like a lot of excuses for a hit and run?

borntobequiet · 30/03/2022 11:27

Absolutely.

INeverKnewYa · 30/03/2022 11:30

@Enough4me

A pimp website director, dubious business man, hit-and-run perpetrator and highly stressed after rape. If a woman said these things she would be blamed for it all. He'll receive praise as he's waving the TW golden ticket.
Yes.

I'm confused. This is Jamie, a man, who wants to be a woman? Not a woman who has transitioned to a man? Thich is what I thought when I read the story at first.
Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/03/2022 11:34

Is this person going to start calling themselves a "woman" or are they going to declare themselves non binary. What does "to be more accurate, I want to be [trans]" mean? What does he think "trans" means, or that he has to do about it?

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 30/03/2022 11:34

That’s incredibly brave

tabbycatstripy · 30/03/2022 11:34

So far Wallis hasn’t ‘declared’ pronouns or ‘declared’ that Wallis is now to be regarded as female.

But let’s say Wallis is going to be female, either ‘identifying as’ female or getting a GRC.

Does that mean the Welsh Conservatives would then have seven female MPs rather than six?

This would be where any sympathy I have came to a halt. Wallis is not female. Trans or not, it does not add to female political representation for male MPs to present as female.

AnyFucker · 30/03/2022 11:34

Incidentally, I've noticed people have been using the pronoun "they" when speaking about this person. "They" is a plural, so doesn't sound right when used in reference to an individual. Do we perhaps need a new, alternative pronoun that basically means the same as "it" (ie is gender neutral) but refers to a person rather than a thing?

Just he/she or an actual name is perfectly adequate.

MedusasBadHairDay · 30/03/2022 11:35

Runs a sleazy hook up site; gets raped by person on a "hook up" (presumably casual sex, on night tsand, maybe part of his website, who knows - but kinda hoist by his own petard in a most horrid way).

Let's not play the bad victim/brought it on themselves game. Rape is horrific, and the victim of rape shouldn't need to be a perfect victim in order to get sympathy. He's been a victim of male sexual violence which we, as a feminist board, should be condemning.

Even if we do find him unpleasant in other areas. I also don't really care if he comes out as trans, his links with dodgy websites and irresponsible behaviour with the car crash are enough to say he shouldn't be an MP.

Libertaire · 30/03/2022 11:36

Wallis’s Wikipedia page details some of his business activities prior to becoming an MP. Makes interesting reading…

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jamie_Wallis

Wallis hasn’t been an MP for long, but their voting record might make interesting reading, too. Will look it up when I get time.

potniatheron · 30/03/2022 11:37

So let me get this straight: he co-owned a prostitution website, ran a number of dodgy companies, crashed his car endangering life and limb and is now using the trans thing as a handy dead cat.

I sense a resignation coming in 3....2....1....

SparklingConsequences · 30/03/2022 11:38

Saying you 'want to be trans' is making a declaration about your state and that you intend to transition. They're just recognising that they need to do something about it. Often there's a period of 'questioning' where you slowly take yourself apart cos most people really really don't want to be trans. They'll be in for a rough ride, transsexuals usually get hounded out in politics.
