Dare I ask - the trans issue?

How do people feel about the 'trans women are women' idea?

A friend recently said I was a TERF which I'm not but I don't agree that a man in his 50's who suddenly identifies as female and wears a dress has any idea of what it is to be truly female.

Feeling that you are trapped in the wrong body must be hell and the surgery one goes through is extreme to say the least. But it doesn't make you the opposite sex to the one you were born as.

Am I getting this wrong?

OP posts:

They're not women, they're trans women.

Dillidalli · 04/02/2022 15:17

You are not getting it wrong.

dressicarabbit · 04/02/2022 15:19

Nope. Spot on IMO.

Also not only am I highly cynical about men transitioning generally I am deeply frightened that some will use the transition route to get access to vulnerable women in prison, domestic violence refuges and hospitals.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 04/02/2022 15:20

Of course you aren't wrong. It is not possible to change sex.

Theimpossiblegirl · 04/02/2022 15:21

You're not getting it wrong, but expect to be told you are, and maybe not nicely.

Perhaps venture over to the feminist board...

Bonheurdupasse · 04/02/2022 15:21

Also if you look it nowadays the vast majority don't even have or intend to have the surgery.

Giraffesandbottoms · 04/02/2022 15:21

They are not women. As I told the Lib Dem man who came to my door today.

jeaux90 · 04/02/2022 15:21

I'm pissed of at this whole ideology. Being a woman is not a feeling in a man's head.

Bitofachinwag · 04/02/2022 15:23

You can't be trapped in the wrong body. You might feel like you are but that doesn't make it true.

Sperm meets egg determines what sex your body will be.

Giraffesandbottoms · 04/02/2022 15:24

Bones can be exhumed from hundreds of years ago and tested and you can tell from the bones whether or not the body was male or female. A trans woman’s bones will be male.

Lottapianos · 04/02/2022 15:25

No, you're not getting it wrong. It's not possible for anyone to change sex. Some people struggle with that fact, but it is a fact. Your sex has nothing to do with how you present yourself, what colours you like, your personality traits or your interests.

Putting a dress on a man doesn't make them a woman. It would be laughable if it wasn't so scary and becoming so common. When will the woke wake up!

slashlover · 04/02/2022 15:28

How do people feel about the 'trans women are women' idea?

OP, you've been here for several years, how can you NOT know how MN feels about itt?

DiscontentedWoman · 04/02/2022 15:30

You aren't getting it wrong. Absolutely not women.

anon12345678901 · 04/02/2022 15:32

They are not women, they are men. It takes more than a dress to make a person a woman. I cracked up when someone told me a woman could have a penis, it's seriously laughable or it would be if they were not trying to take away womens rights and safe spaces.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 04/02/2022 15:33

@Giraffesandbottoms

Genuine question, not being funny just FYI.

If someone were taking hormones/hormone suppressants in early puberty or just after, wouldn't that affect the bones forming in a way that help us identify sex?
Generally speaking you can tell by things like size, density(?), and formation ie a wider pelvic region would indicate female.
I don't know what affect the hormone treatments have on bone but I do know they can affect muscle tissue etc.

Sorry, random thoughts.

PollyPaintsFlowers · 04/02/2022 15:34

You're not unreasonable. Men can't be women and vice versa. It makes me laugh out loud when I see people trying to tell others that some women can have a penis

Waitwhat23 · 04/02/2022 15:35

The Break It Down For Me Thread on the FWR board explains all this brilliantly.

I wonder if your friend is aware that the term TERF is a slur which is laden with violent connotations - www.terfisaslur.com .

3peassuit · 04/02/2022 15:35

You’re not wrong. They may identify as female but every cell in their body is male.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 04/02/2022 15:35

What do you call a ‘terf’? Because if you don’t accept, WITHOUT QUESTION OR EXCEPTION, that males are whoever they tell you they are, then that’s what they’ll call you.

SliceOfCakeCupOfTea · 04/02/2022 15:35

Generally women have many shared experiences which men who have/wish to transition just won't understand. Just like they will encounter their own unique set of issues which wouldn't affect a biological woman.

I think it's so unfair (on both parties) to not recognise these differences. Both require different solutions so you can't do a 'one size fits all' approach. It just isn't appropriate.

theqentity · 04/02/2022 15:35

I have friends who are trans women. They are women. None of them want to beat your daughters at tennis or taunt you in the bogs. They just want to live in a way that feels most authentic to them.

AgnesNaismith · 04/02/2022 15:36

You’re not wrong

Carriemac · 04/02/2022 15:38

Trans women are men who dress as and /or feeli like women .
No one can change sex.

HesterShaw1 · 04/02/2022 15:41

It's nice that you have friends who are transwomen and you obviously feel protective if your friends, but that's what they are. Doesn't make them lesser people but they are not women.
