I was sent this link by my 91yo DGM with the above comment.

Utterly repulsive. Would this be recorded as a female crime?

@SirSamuelVimes

I apologise for the misunderstanding, which was my fault

No, it was my fault! I was being a bit slow.

We're back to being friends! Excellent.
GCAndProud · 23/12/2021 16:12

Seriously, I fucking give up. So I am meant to disbelieve reality and my own eyesight to protect the feelings of some sick fuck who rapes a dog? Okay then. If you are one of the people still insisting that this very obviously male animal-abuser with a massive five-o'clock shadow and a bad wig is indeed a woman, what the bloody hell are you smoking? I do realise that I'm preaching to the converted on here but it's just so baffling to me.

And this is the umpteenth rape/abuse/assault case by a male who claims that they are a woman and people are STILL disbelieving that transwomen have not got different offending patterns to other males.

For those interested in the correct reporting of these crimes there is a petition to request the IPSO to do this that is open for signature. I have just added my name.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 23/12/2021 16:41

Can you provide a link or PM me it? Thank you.

Do you mean the one in this thread or is there another one?

ErrolTheDragon · 23/12/2021 16:47

Don't put a link to the petition on this thread, it might get it shuffled off to the petitions board.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 23/12/2021 17:12

Apologies. I would not want to see that happen.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/12/2021 17:13

No problem - it doesn't always happen, and a lot of people don't realise it may. Hopefully the link I've put will get you to the right place.Smile

Indeed it did. Thank you!
gailforce1 · 23/12/2021 17:24

Yes, that link is correct. Just hoping that it quickly reaches the 5,000 necessary.

@RoyalCorgi

Of course it matters. Truth matters. Facts matter.

If this crime had been committed by a white man, who decided to identify as black, and the statistics then recorded it as a crime committed by a black man, I imagine there'd be a lot of public anger. For some reason women are supposed to just suck it up.

Excellent point. Well said.
BattyOrange · 23/12/2021 18:20

What about when they identify as an elf? www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10339797/Thumb-sucking-paedophile-claims-identify-five-year-old-girl-comes-court-dressed-ELF.html

I appreciate the MoL bringing these cases to the attention of the wider public.

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10340329/Transgender-paedophile-60-jailed-20-months-having-sex-dog-sent-male-prison.html

The Daily Mail has published an update. The perpetrator has been sent to a men’s prison.

Does this mean that currently only men with GRC’s are sent to a woman’s prison? I say ‘only’ but it would mean an offender couldn’t self-identify into a women’s prison then surely.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 23/12/2021 18:31

I think that the prison service can use their discretion in that case.

It will be interesting to see if he obtains a GRC while he is in prison.

Needmoresleep · 23/12/2021 18:36

The Mail reporting all these stories makes it harder to claim that ‘it will never happen’.

That is countered by a concern that the Mail’s fixation on some aspects of the news can appear obsessed or aggressive. There is an important distinction between wanting/needing to protect women’s spaces and being ‘anti trans’.

gailforce1 · 23/12/2021 19:47

The Mail's fixation? - if these incidents did not happen the Mail could not report them.
No one is making this stuff up, it is happening. The Mail is showing more spine than other MSM outlets in consistently covering these issues.
And I say that as someone who 5 years ago would never have paid for the Mail but do so now regularly because it covering these issues.

Not what I meant. I think it is great that the Mail are reporting these stories.

However the Mail is populist and can overplay issues. You may have missed it but some posters on MN regularly refer to the Mail as the Fail and apologise for posting links.

One problem might be its algorithms. The more people click, the higher up a feed stories go. At one point it looked as if it was obsessed by ISIS, which is obviously a truly awful organisation, to the point of Islamophobia. Ditto Meghan Markle, where the over extensive coverage started to look, to some people, as if it were racially motivated.

The Mail has done a good job in printing stories that others won’t. But there is a point, and today’s feed seems close to that point, that a casual reader might wonder if they were simply seeking voyeuristic click bait or were transphobic.

It is true what you say that people on MN feel they need to apologise but that is happening less and less for the reasons pointed out. I noticed a few years ago how sometimes it is easier to find information there. You just need to read carefully, as happened with the way they reported on an American Academic recently who was made to seem to have some particular opinions when in reality she had been quoting from other academics’. It was still worth reading but I was grateful to other posters here who pointed out the paper’s lack of nuance in that instance.

Needmoresleep · 23/12/2021 20:47

I think the jury is out. They changed editor last month. Geordie Greig erstwhile editor of the Mail on Sunday only lasted about three years but in that time did a lot to move on from the Dacre years. The new editor is clearly on side on gender issues, but who knows whether this is for click bait reasons or a more general concern about the welfare and safety of women and girls.

AlfonsoTheUnrepentant · 23/12/2021 20:47

Why can't it be both?

Needmoresleep · 23/12/2021 20:54

The danger then is that reporting becomes sensationalist, with the picture editor given free rein, and moderate readers start feeling uneasy about possible transphobia.

My view only.

I am a long time reader of the Mail. I read lots of other stuff as well. Inter alia I like trying to read behind the lines on Tory politics. (Greig did not like Boris…both OEs) I am used to being attacked for this, as many people seemed to think that even looking at the Mail was beyond the pale, so being questioned about a less than enthusiastic view is strange. I liked the direction Greig was taking it. I am not so sure now. We shall see.
