@MarshaBradyo

Where does access to a workplace free from bullying fit in?

I wouldn’t have to deal with that at work

Indeed. And, like most universities, Sussex presents plenty of policies that set out expected behaviour, and that which is unacceptable, that are deemed to apply to the workplace as well as to the student community. Do they have any actual application?
ThumbWitchesAbroad · 04/11/2021 10:40

This is one member of staff that has been clearly and unashamedly involved in removing Doc Stock, as she is not in the slightest bit repentant:

Also, her account is protected so you can't see them for yourself. Well, I can't anyway, and I've had no interaction with her at all!

Thank you for the link to Kathleen and Julie, Arabella.

Ormally · 04/11/2021 10:58

Some time back, I emailed one steering group at the university of Sussex in connection with these unfolding events.

There's a link on the email signature from the person who replied to me that cites a 'Community Pledge'. It was intended to be mainly about Covid, but I'm reading some parts with raised eyebrows. I can't believe it's there and still, seemingly, unironic...

That’s a brilliant interview with Julie and Kathleen! Thanks for posting. Well worth a watch.

It really underscored the derangement and moral bankruptcy of thinking that:

  • Dr Stock is a dangerous extremist, comparable to a Holocaust denier.
  • a college in Brighton, one of the most accepting places in the UK, if not the world, which is replete with spaces, protections and accommodations for trans and non binary people, actually poses a grave and mortal danger to them.
  • people in balaclavas waving posters with Dr Stocks name on them, and calling for her to be sacked and driven off the campus and conducting a campaign such that she had to take police advice on remaining secure in her home, and was unable to attend her place of work is any kind of “legitimate protest”.

Absolute nonsense. Total piffle. Grow up. (I’m talking to her colleagues here).

Eh? Honestly, I've read some stuff, but that takes the bloody cake 🤣
HoardingSamphireSaurus · 04/11/2021 11:39

Jesus. How much do you have to live inside your own head to think that, let alone type it out loud?

Walking, talking solipsism.

GreyhoundG1rl · 04/11/2021 11:45

The Rev?!

Sophoclesthefox · 04/11/2021 11:46

What is it that Gregor thinks they’ve been a victim of, exactly?

How, specifically, did Kathleen Stock “bully” Gregor?

Dates, times, places, actions.

Why do people give this malevolent nonsense the time of day?

Is this the Gregor Murray that is tangentially involved in part of the 'evidence base' in Maya Forstater's case?

Twitter is a cesspit on this. The amount of completely unhinged claims about Kathleen Stock, about what she is accused to have said or done, coming from academics and trans rights activists is unbelievable. I'll not name any, but what strikes me is how easy it is to refute their claims, and yet that does not stop the same claims being repeated over and over.

Which hammers home the futility of trying to counter disinformation campaigns on Twitter. It's the perfect format for making these claims, it's completely unsuitable for the conversation we're trying to have about the political implications of the doctrine of gender identity for women's rights in particular and society as a whole. Which is why I'm glad that the BBC has started doing its job on this.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 04/11/2021 11:52

That's the one. "Non binary" former councillor who was suspended for calling women terfs and other nasty things, from the BBC article posted above:

They said they were "severely disappointed" in the panel's decision.
Councillor Murray said: "I accept that it is not appropriate for me to swear - I have apologised for this on numerous occasions and have already accepted sanctions for doing so.
"I am also extremely worried by the precedent that this has set that TERF is an offensive or abusive term."

Never mind, just like buses, I'm sure another abusive term will come along in a minute.

This is the guy who as a councillor publicly lambasted a resident for writing a query to his council about a women's rights issue. (For anyone who doesn't know, this is confidential information that councillors must not disclose in public.)

He was suspended and rebuked for calling her a TERF. Later left the SNP because he was being investigated for unacceptable conduct.

Here's a previous MN thread about him presenting himself as a victim when he was forced to stand down from his position as Children's Convenor and Equalityies Spokesperson for Dundee Council in 2018.

It's really come to something when bog standard men can weaponise the fact the public at large see them as bog standard men and call it a hate crime.
