Blimmin heck. She is amazing.

FreezerBird · 03/11/2021 10:31

This is so good; she's speaking so clearly and well, and being allowed the space to do so.

steppemum · 03/11/2021 10:32

really good.

Was afraid Emma was going to be hostile, but she isn't

TedImgoingmad · 03/11/2021 10:32

Weirdly, it makes me even angrier to think about how long they ignored it though.

By shutting down Jenni Murray, the BBC set the tone in discussing trans issues for years, and handed a massive victory to TRAs. As the nation's public broadcaster, they were instrumental in helping create the vicious climate against free speech we are in. They have been caught out now and publicly shamed by the Nolan Report. This is them attempting atonement, but it's too late, the damage is done. The BBC learned absolutely nothing from Savile.

StevieNicksscarf · 03/11/2021 10:38

She's an absolute inspiration. Exactly the sort of lecturer that I would want my DC to have when, and if, they go to university. Can't believe that this has been allowed to get to this stage. Sussex should be ashamed of their behaviour and the students are perfect examples of why some young people lack the critical thinking needed to study at university.

Am listening to statement from the university which sounds remarkably hollow. My DC would go to Sussex university over my dead body.

FreezerBird · 03/11/2021 10:39

That stonewall statement....

Ekofisk · 03/11/2021 10:39

There’s film of the interview on Twitter @BBCWomansHour

StevieNicksscarf · 03/11/2021 10:40

FFS these bloody comments that she's reading out.

CriticalCondition · 03/11/2021 10:41

That Stonewall statement...

steppemum · 03/11/2021 10:41

@StevieNicksscarf

FFS these bloody comments that she's reading out.
yes. I'd love to know what percentage of the comments were pro and anti, and how that fits witht he percentage she read out!
WinterTrees · 03/11/2021 10:41

The statement by stonewall is beyond outrageous - a string of robotic parroted mantras that have no relevance to Prof Stock's situation whatsoever. It's like something from Animal Farm. How fucking dare they keep coming out with this stuff?

Agree with this, the BBC have been an absolute disgrace.
Mummyoflittledragon · 03/11/2021 10:42

Quite a few pro trans #bekind messages read out at the end. Do don’t seem balanced.

Was anyone’s message read out?

Yes, absolutely. Neatly put Ted
StevieNicksscarf · 03/11/2021 10:43

@Steppemum - yes all part of the impartiality of the BBC GrinAngry

littlbrowndog · 03/11/2021 10:43

Thanks Kathleen. Very clear about why

blackwingedstilt · 03/11/2021 10:44

I don't understand why this interview isn't mentioned/publicised in the content details for today's WH on BBC Sounds.
Perhaps (giving BBC the benefit of the doubt) it was a last-minute arrangement?

littlbrowndog · 03/11/2021 10:45

When she spoke about women being silenced all over the country due to. Lobbying to organisations

Silenced

WinterTrees · 03/11/2021 10:45

Also, the stonewall statement had the reek of desperate PR. 'Industry leading' '900 companies' etc etc. I can imagine a blue-haired Basil Fawlty running around in the background shouting DON'T MENTION THE WAR

Clymene · 03/11/2021 10:46

Is that Stonewall statement saying that they are no longer campaigning to have single sex exemptions removed from the Equality Act?

Because it's pretty bloody clear on their website

TedImgoingmad · 03/11/2021 10:47

Fucking hell. A brilliant interview followed by 3 shitty statements. The Stonewall one was all about how well they are doing, nothing to do with KS and the climate they have created at all. You could hear the victorious, vainglorious tone in their words. And the TRA comments read out completely missed the bloody mark too, just the usual "be kind" rubbish. KS has always supported trans people ffs!

Olderbadger1 · 03/11/2021 10:47

Dr Stock was superb, but clearly still distressed and shaken by what has happened - that sense of betrayal and 'public shaming' won't be easy to shake off.

I'm so angry that this was allowed to continue essentially unchecked for so long. The University's statement rings absolutely hollow. And as for the UCU...

I have friends in academia - this is not an isolated incident. Desperate times.

Clymene · 03/11/2021 10:49

Kathleen was great. She articulated the complete failure of universities to tackle cancel culture very well.

LilyRed · 03/11/2021 10:49

Doc Stock, still one of my sheroes, I managed the first ten minutes before my caree (MIL, 93, Vascular dementia) demanded my attention, so I shall follow up tonight when things are quiet.

Sussex university have been shameful in their lack of support and their encouragement of a society of no-debate and lack of independent thought.

I'm also delighted that womans' hour has finally had a volte-face and is properly representing the interests of women again.

littlbrowndog · 03/11/2021 10:49

Who caused all this ?

Was it when the government put out public consultation to reform gender recognition?
