Hi all I can't see a thread about this conference next week in London (QEII). Lots of great speakers including Maya introducing Allison Bailey! Is anyone going? I'm considering going to some of it. Any idea if there will be protestors outside? My (elderly) mum is going.

Oh I wish - that looks good.

I wouldn't be surprised if there were protestors given the styling of LGBA as a contentious organisation by those controversial bodies that are opposed to support for LGB people.

lankyesme · 14/10/2021 21:37

I'm going. Really looking forward to the fab speakers. Maybe a big tricky but there will be police as is private property.

OhHolyJesus · 14/10/2021 22:09

I so wish I could go to this, and to Filia. I never get to have any fun!

There will be protesters, masked ones I suspect so they can't be identified (original definition of the word) but they will no doubt be wearing clothes that tell us how they identify.

There's a joke in there somewhere.

Carpetssss · 14/10/2021 23:18

I'm going and am really looking forward to it, there are excellent speakers booked including the lovely Dr Az Hakeem. It looks like it will be a really interesting day and I think it's important to support the LGB Alliance because of all the lies being told about them including by the shadow equalities minister.

From what I saw on Twitter the layabout protesters aren't planning to rock up until lunchtime so if we get there for the morning session we should manage to avoid them!

Olderbadger1 · 15/10/2021 00:43

The line-up is knockout. Almost everyone you ever wanted to listen to and some more that you didn't realise you wanted to listen to. It'll be well worth the ticket price...

PamDenick · 15/10/2021 00:45

I retesting. Will try and get tickets.

The Nolan Podcast revelation about Ofcom and Stonewall makes this all the more important.

I have a ticket but will only be able to make the afternoon now, I was very happy to buy a ticket to support LGBA and hope to make it for the afternoon session to offer physical presence support as well.

They’ve pulled an absolute blinder with the venue, and how fantastic they’re not keeping it secret until the day like so many women’s groups have to. Let the protesters come and voice their opposition to the only organisation in the U.K. exclusively focused on the rights and needs of same-sex attracted people, see how the optics on that work out. I expect it’s the most heavily policed location in London, they’re used to all sorts of batshit protesters turning up daily outside Parliament anyway, they’ll know what is going on, I am not too worried about running the gauntlet for this one.

KittenKong · 15/10/2021 07:38

Looks like the rainbow gang are trying to drum up a protest outside (it’s next to parliament so hopefully the police won’t stand for any nonsense) but just be aware if you are heading there. You don’t want a beer can thrown at you...

Yes I went to the FPFW and WPUK sports event in the same venue a couple of years ago. I've also been there several times for work conferences. It's a great venue.

FloralBunting · 15/10/2021 09:06

Looking forward to it!

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 15/10/2021 09:19

Cheers to your Mum, Op! Best wishes to her and all LGB people who attend the conference.

Timefortea4 · 15/10/2021 11:59

Right I've booked a ticket. So excited! Would be great to meet up with other Mumsnetters there. I'm particularly interested in talking to anyone who works in the civil service. I'll be there from lunchtime.

For WPUK I was in the row between the front row Daley Thompson and, behind me, Selina Todd. [fans self]

To those who are attending this tomorrow, please tell us ALL about it! The programme looks excellent. Smile

OperationDessertStorm I live in Scotland and I feel like I'm missing out!

P.S. love your username. I was in Kuwait during the actual Operation Desert Storm.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 20/10/2021 08:35

Security’s always excellent at the QEII centre, they’re more than used to dealing with protesters!

Shedbuilder · 20/10/2021 09:19

Wish I could be there but I'm experiencing too busy a time at work to come along.

OperationDessertStorm · 20/10/2021 11:32

Nonny that sounds infinitely more exciting than me shoving cake in my face!

Articus · 20/10/2021 13:15
