Hi all I can't see a thread about this conference next week in London (QEII). Lots of great speakers including Maya introducing Allison Bailey! Is anyone going? I'm considering going to some of it. Any idea if there will be protestors outside? My (elderly) mum is going.

I'm warming to this dinosaur thing. I attended a fascinating presentation about Ancient DNA by Beth Shapiro last night (not available publicly, but look out for her as her book has just been published and she's an excellent interviewee).

Dinosaurs were pretty high in the dominant species apex (if one considers such things) and co-existed for a very long time. It took a planet altering comet to take them down.

We should all be more dinosaur.

I'm loving tunnocks tea cakes are transphobic, my knitting group was full of the wokist of the woke and they all used to have a thing about tunnocks tea cakes and how wonderful they were. They'll be in full meltdown.

It was an amazing conference! The speakers were being filmed so hopefully a lot of the speeches will be available on line soon. Allison Bailey and Jo Bartosch were particularly inspiring, but everyone was excellent.

My take aways from it are:

• Keep coming back to the law - it's gender reassignment not gender identity and GC views are a protected belief

• Several speakers mentioned collective guilt and the need to make amends for the past leading to an uncritical 'over correction'. So the Tories want to distance themselves from being the party of Section 28, the police from their previous treatment of the LGB community, straight people in general from the homophobia of society in the past. This creates the perfect atmosphere for Stonewall to push their agenda as 'what the good people do'

• this is a LGB human rights issue - 'without sex there is no same sex attraction' The shock and anger of the LGB community that they are again having to fight fights they thought were won was palpable yesterday. That gay men and lesbians are losing their livelihoods for standing up for same sex attraction in 2021 is shameful. We need to stand together on this and make people aware that both women and LGB people are being thrown to the wolves on this issue.

• the people who want to 'do good' (as per the collective guilt/over-correction idea) but don't particularly care about or minimise the impact on women's rights (because misogyny) may take more notice of the impact on the rights of LGB people and the charge of homophobia

Also - the disco was brilliant (and the pub after!) and I will always love James Dreyfus for refusing to believe I'm 46
