Hi all I can't see a thread about this conference next week in London (QEII). Lots of great speakers including Maya introducing Allison Bailey! Is anyone going? I'm considering going to some of it. Any idea if there will be protestors outside? My (elderly) mum is going.

I was telling my DH about the Tunnocks thing and he's just come back from an errand with a box of teacakes. Good man.

the disco was brilliant
It was so nice to be in an actual LGB space, I found myself soaking it up even though I was going to leave at six.
I was thinking hard about what I could actually do to help, after such amazing speakers, that it was hard to get into party mode though. It was lovely to see everyone really enjoying themselves!

The over-correction analogy makes perfect sense 👌

You see the over correction thing in the progressive church circles, too. So guilt ridden by historical homophobia they don't even think twice before signing up to the next Pride brand, and can't bring themselves to examine why or how they've gulped down homophobia 2.0

Thank you for that summary littleburn The impact of collective guilt indeed.

Report
Datun · 22/10/2021 17:53

Yes, it's very clever. It would appear that melding transgenderism into homosexual rights was entirely deliberate, presumably to leverage the collective guilt.

And yes, it's got to be hate speech, hasn't it? Given sexual orientation is a protected characteristic and it's based on sex.

It's blisteringly straightforward.

great summary littleburn. 2 things struck me from Allisons speech - 1) that gender non-conformity should be celebrated and 2) her tipping point - that we should not be sterilising lesbian and gay children

Clip of Rosie. this idea that we have to justify talking about women or women's rights and we're not allowed to without adding other groups, to speak about things only affecting women

Was anyone present for this “altercation”, as it is being reported in PN?

A trans woman was called a “homophobic nonce” and a “fking pervert” while attending the conference of anti-trans charity LGB Alliance.

This is the charmer who bought a ticket to the conference so they could use the ladies and secretly record audio in there.
I didn't see or hear the altercation, nor did I notice the specific MTF trans person, but there were quite a lot of gnc people in attendance, and the special inner identity didn't stand out. As I understand it, they were challenged by a young autistic man who I did spend some time with and found as bracingly direct as I have found other autistic young men. I can well believe that he would have pointed out that going into the women's toilets, as it turned out to record women without their consent, was fairly goady behaviour.

This person also made no attempt to listen to the speakers, who talked about some really important topics. Still, at least their ticket paid for their lunch. Childish behaviour like this might impress Cohen & co at Prick News. Grown ups are getting on with more worthwhile things.

Well going into the women's toilets to record women without their consent is voyeurism and predatory. As we as being illegal and exactly the reason why most women don't want males in their private spaces.

What's the evidence of them recording in the toilets?

The article is (obviously as it’s from PN) very anti-GC and LGBAlliance, and is quite inflammatory. I was just wondering what occurred from the other perspective, as no altercations we’re mentioned, and often the view from certain ideologies is seeing mountains when there are only dust bunnies.

@TeamRex

I would like to know this as well. I saw the interview with K Montgomerie where the situation was stated (reading between the lines, this person loudly made a very bad taste “joke” about “going to use the women’s toilets now” and was berated by someone, who rather inevitably took offence. It might have been implied that recording was occurring at all times, but I haven’t seen any evidence the person actually used the women’s toilet, nor any that recording occurred there. I think it’s important that we remain factual.

Attending a conference in bad faith, and being deliberately provocative, then playing the victim when the inevitable backlash occurs is the real story here, I think. If anyone can provide evidence that something worse happened, I would be interested to hear it, and if such evidence is provided, I stand corrected, but we shouldn’t repeat unfounded rumours or we will be doing what we are often accused of, which is implying people are sexual predators without evidence in order to smear their community.

I’m going by what I’ve heard and haven’t yet listened to the podcast. That’s not appropriate so I’ll get MN to remove my comment now & I’ll listen to it tonight. Then I can say for sure.

This is a brief (just under 12 minutes long) recording from a woman delegate who witnessed most of the altercation. It was on Twitter, so I assume it's OK to link here. twitter.com/SWFourteen/status/1452694276069109775?s=20 This is the link to the tweet where I saw this. Here's the direct link to the video on Google Photos. tinyurl.com/phdavn22 Click on the Play symbol on the photo. Very clear, very measured, and makes far more sense of the confused nonsense about this I was reading on Twitter last night.

I was at the conference and didn't witness any of this. I would say that there were people at the conference with a broad range of views - as there are at most conferences where any groups of individuals gather - and that we don't all share the same views.

It sounds though that there is more of a backstory to this than is painted in Pink News. I'm sorry that this incident happened and it doesn't reflect my views. However, if the incident was provoked then that puts a different complexion on it.

David Bridle's write up of the conference in the lesbian and gay news (which he set up after Owen J, David P cancelled him and Boyz magazine)

Talking of write ups - of you get a mo, you might want to send some love the BBCs way for their article on lesbians being ‘pressured into sex’ because there is a wave of tantrums going their way (and demands it be deleted/burned/ashes shot into space).
