Hi all I can't see a thread about this conference next week in London (QEII). Lots of great speakers including Maya introducing Allison Bailey! Is anyone going? I'm considering going to some of it. Any idea if there will be protestors outside? My (elderly) mum is going.

To those who are attending this tomorrow, please tell us ALL about it! The programme looks excellent. Smile

Morning session has been excellent so far! Venue is ideal.

Somebody it's counting how many people turn up.

I can also count. I make it 4 people outside the venue protesting the event, all from Surrey Pride it appears, all there because Surrey PCC Lisa Townsend is there giving a speech. Maybe this is the 'action group' seeking to remove her from elected office?

Just 4. From Surrey.

Some interesting clips so far on Twitter. Does anyone know if it's being properly filmed for upload at a later point?

I'm interested to hear from Robert Wintermute.

Yeah I believe so, plenty of pics being taken too but we were asked to let them know if we didn't want to be photographed. Really small protest, a train flag and a handful of people. Security is good.

Trans not train sorry

That is interesting that the protest is small.

My impression is that people who are trans tend to be focussed on themselves (excuse the sweeping generalisation and bear with me) - when I argue the case for my rights they counter with anecdotal stories about themselves and their lived experience. Whereas, the women who argue for our rights are focussed on the needs of others - other women, young women, girls, older women, women of faith, disabled women, incarcerated women, gay women, bi women, traumatised women, shy women, fit women, athletic women, women who would like to say "no".

It is not easy to go out and protest if you are focussed on yourself, there will always be something easier, more appealing, nicer to do than go out and stand alone in the street with not very much to say.

Well it’s obviously MEANT to be intimidating but I don’t honestly think they’ll get very far accusing people of transphobia for just sitting listening to some talks.

Is Cathy Brennan not the one who allegedly assaulted Julie Bindel? I say allegedly in case I have the wrong person, JB was definitely assaulted.

I assume attendees consented to photos being taken as part of the entry (assuming the photo itself is official), but from an LGB perspective, this is so awful.

In all the LGB+ stuff I've run or been involved with, the first rule is always: be mindful of the fact people might not be 'out' and might not want people to know they attended an LGB+ event. So don't say "I saw Roger at that gay event on Tuesday" to colleagues, for example, and don't post pics, etc without everyone's consent. I realise most people nowadays seem ok to stand up and be counted, but not everyone is - I personally took years of going to LGB groups before I felt emboldened to come out to family and friends, and I've been outed by others in several horribly public ways in the past and it still haunts me now.

It's so awful to post this, even without the ridiculous transphobia accusation. Someone's homophobic family could see this and ruin their life.

You are right LonginesPrime, but TRAs don't care about anybody but themselves.

Hopefully, that tweet has been reported and not just to Twitter.

The prime minister is calling it a groundbreaking event, truly momentous, and thanking them for their incredible hard work.

Doesn't sound like the sorts of ringing endorsements the government would give to hate group, does it.

Bloody well done LGBA.
