From For women Scotland's tweets:

twitter.com/ForwomenScot

And we're off!

Characteristic of sex

@JohannLamont
is up

@JohannLamont
says some will agree with her and some disagree but what she will say is not hateful.

She calls out @patrickharvie
for his male entitlement in ascribing to her a motive of transphobia.

Says more about his lack of self-awareness than how we make good law.

Easier to silence people than address concerns.

Cab Sec says there is high bar, but PH considers what she said on #IWD2021
to meet that bar.

This should worry everyone.

She is here to represent women and constituents who understand the abuse women face.

They are not funded to lobby.

Yet the Gov has chosen to listen to those funded by the public purse rather than the women who fund them.

FWS Tweets: Bracadale says this is missed opportunity.

If this sends message, you might think the group who suffers most should be included.

The scale of abuse of women is massive and has not changed.

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:10

There is no answer for exclusion.

Working group can do significant work, but the principle should be decided in parliament chamber.

'women are people too' - Lamont

Pauline McNeill up now

Sex a characteristic that matters 100s of women have written to me

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:13

Wow, she's listing all the things that concern women VaWG

why is Scotland not leading on this

FGM, online abuse, forced marriage, etc

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:14

''sex' is a glaring omission'

I like this woman!

Ninkanink · 10/03/2021 16:15

Solidarity! 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

PankhurstTastic · 10/03/2021 16:15

Thank you for the thread I've been waiting for this all day! Emailed 7 MSPs so far (didn't bother with the local Green) & I will be checking up on how they vote. Excluding sex from the Bill is a deliberate act of misogyny.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:15

how does misogynistic harassment differ from domestic violence?

Women are already such victims of a range of crimes

why can you not (Scotgov) put sex as an aggravator?

OP posts:
Ifyourefeelingsinister · 10/03/2021 16:15

Signing in for updates - thank you! Must look up Pauline McNeill.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:16

please think very seriously about omitting sex as an aggravator urge members to consider seriously voting for amendments

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:16

Joan McAlpine now

'every young woman in the UK has suffered harassment'

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:17

it's not eough to say this is too difficult a problem to solve

needs to be addressed now

I understand sex aggravator is 'gender neutral' - (?)

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:17

scale of violence against women means it would be bizarre to exclude them
now talking about cross-dressers being included

but not women

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:19

'we seem to be saying femicide is not hate'

Notes that sex in the Eq Act mainly protects women, although it is also 'gender neutral'

so why not include sex?

[Strong arguments so far. I can't imagine people not including sex]

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:19

ideological schism in feminist thought

queer studies argue gender is a choice - this view is taken by most govt organisations

OP posts:
greatpurplepolkadots · 10/03/2021 16:19

The passion coming through is amazing - I hope those in the parliament will listen.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:20

debate is polarised but dynamic and changing

talkinga bout ONS/FPFW case yesterday

and mentions Scotgov's census bill

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:21

And Johann Lamon't's forensic medical examiner bill

Elaine Smith now, great. And then John Finnie is up to make an arse of himself, I mean, present the Green view

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:21

Elaine Smith:

women across Scotland are asking if this is really the best the parliament can do?

Not a new discussion.

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:22

misogyny/VaWG has been excluded from hate crime before

we cannot understand why we would exclude women

OP posts:
OvaHere · 10/03/2021 16:22

Thanks for the updates. Johann is excellent, such a shame she is standing down.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 16:23

we have a responsibility to be very clear when defining sex and gender

we can't put women's concerns to one side

I am shocked by the indifference

Wooh, she's blazing!!!
