From For women Scotland's tweets:

twitter.com/ForwomenScot

And we're off!

Characteristic of sex

@JohannLamont
is up

@JohannLamont
says some will agree with her and some disagree but what she will say is not hateful.

She calls out @patrickharvie
for his male entitlement in ascribing to her a motive of transphobia.

Says more about his lack of self-awareness than how we make good law.

Thanks for the updates. I wouldn't be able to bear to listen to it all myself.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:01

on 'anti trans' campaigners and far right US campaigners

where is he getting this rubbish?

OP posts:
TheShadowyFeminist · 10/03/2021 19:02

Oh FFS! US far right!

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:02

As a nonbinary person, I am considering reporting him for hate crime

OP posts:
TheShadowyFeminist · 10/03/2021 19:02

Is he on glue?

TheHamsterCatcher · 10/03/2021 19:03

Anti-trans activists campaigning against HIV drugs? First I've heard about that...

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:03

'reject hostile amendments' which are designed for an agenda to fragment the equalities [something] dog barked at wrong time

OP posts:
NonnyMouse1337 · 10/03/2021 19:04

How much shite can one man be filled with?

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:04

Elaine Smith noting Patrick Harvie's recent tweets in which he called Johann's words transphobic and challenging him to point out how

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:06

'chilling effect' playing out right now - go on Twitter and see what people are saying about her and Johann Lamont

I am extremely careful about what I say around rights

I can't believe this is what women are facing

silenced about speaking about rights

self censoring

personally conscious that any reference to sex based rights or sexism will attract accusiations I'm being hateful or transphobic

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:09

[its quite galling watching women speak so passionately and urgently being repeatedly dismissed. I shouldn't be surprised, but it is striking.]

OP posts:
TheHamsterCatcher · 10/03/2021 19:10

The only good thing about this whole load of bullshit... is that seeing ANGRY women standing up in parliament and fighting for us.
This isn't a dry legal technicality. It's a matter that women feel passionately about and it's about time that was shown publicly.

I'm not giving up on letter writing, but I'm standing up too. I am angry too. The fight for our rights does not end in the debating chamber.
It will not end, even when the scottish parliament sells us down the river.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:11

Absolutely, Hamster. Unfortunately we're losing 2 or 3 of these brave women in the next month or so. I don't know how many there are who are hoping for a long political career that are willing to stand up and talk for women.

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:12

Fucksake, Tomkins is leaving too. Don't leave us with all the Greens and the SNP!!!

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:14

Tomkins quoting Harvie, that he found Lamont's amendment troubling

Tomkins says there should be nothing trroubling about seeking to set out what speech in context of debate around gender identity is lawful

arguing that sex is a physical binary is not a hate crime

there shoudl be no doubt about that

saying woman and man is not a hate crime

there should be no doubt

OP posts:
2Rebecca · 10/03/2021 19:17

Watching and listening and wondering why they didn't allow the whole session for this debate

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:17

Lamont:

what assurance and clarity can you give to me and the women who want to express their views in this regard that this will not be reported as a hate crime?

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:18

Tomkins: In order to be criminal, has to be a reasonable person to not merely be hateful and offensive, but threatening or abusive

would have to be intended to stir up hatred and crown would have to prove that

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:21

Lamont:

put these points into law

folk have complained they are hate speech

I would like to be told I can say that wihtout danger of being reported at all

Tomkins: If this bill is not fit for purpose DONT VOTE FOR IT

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:25

vote now

amendment 5

for 53

against 69

OP posts:
Ghislainedefeligonde · 10/03/2021 19:28

How does such a misogynistic wee man become so prominent in politics? PH is just repellant. And why do they listen to him over the women who are subject to all the abuse?

TheShadowyFeminist · 10/03/2021 19:32

FFS. Joan's amendment not agreed.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:33

This on twitter:

'They can't win the argument so they have made the argument a crime'

Also, I see people already calling for Joan McAlpine's speech tonight to be reported as hate crime.

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:33

This is fucking terrible.

Olderstyle1 · 10/03/2021 19:34
