From For women Scotland's tweets:

twitter.com/ForwomenScot

And we're off!

Characteristic of sex

@JohannLamont
is up

@JohannLamont
says some will agree with her and some disagree but what she will say is not hateful.

She calls out @patrickharvie
for his male entitlement in ascribing to her a motive of transphobia.

Says more about his lack of self-awareness than how we make good law.

Genuinely horrified by the amendments being rejected. Does anyone know how to find out how individual MSP's voted? I've been on Scottish Parliament TV but can't see anything there.

And thank you for updating us on the case.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 17:36

I think votes come up after the session, Waitwhat. Probably not until tomorrow?

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 17:37

oh, fuck off, John Finnie.

OP posts:
Waitwhat23 · 10/03/2021 17:37

Ah, OK - thank you Arabella

TheHamsterCatcher · 10/03/2021 17:37

Oh FFS John Finnie back on again.

Igneococcus · 10/03/2021 17:38

I expected it, still furious nevertheless

TheHamsterCatcher · 10/03/2021 17:43

I think the other amendments won't pass either... we're going to lose on the freedom of speech in private aspect too.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 17:45

I think the only way women can be protected is by declaring ourselves non-binary. Or perhaps if wearing trousers I can call myself a cross dresser and thereby find protection under this Bill.

It might be the only way forward.

Of course the whole premise of this Bill is fucking chilling.

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 17:46

'we are policing private thought' - exactly. Not sure who this bloke is, but he's right.

OP posts:
PankhurstTastic · 10/03/2021 17:48

I suspect our best hope is a run of protests & attempted prosecutions, or malicious complaints that make the bill unworkable. It'll be interesting to consider which TV & radio shows may be consider hate speech in Scotland if this passes. Any comedy based on their chosen protected characteristics will potentially be open to prosecution.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 10/03/2021 17:50

The Edinburgh Festival never mind the fringe will surely be awash with hate crime Hmm

TheHamsterCatcher · 10/03/2021 17:52

Never mind the festivals... the insides of our houses are now hotbeds of hate crime!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 10/03/2021 17:54

It’s because they can’t actually legislate for inside our minds
2+2=4
Men can never be women

PankhurstTastic · 10/03/2021 17:56

The Edinburgh Fringe is already a terrifying mass of stickers!

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 17:57

Yes, I doubt it's going to be actually workable, Pankhurst. Just a great waste of time and a headache.

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 17:58

Tomkins' amendment says that it will not be a hate crime to criticise law regarding gender identity etc

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 17:58

Criticising policy is not a hate crime

not a crime to discuss matters relating to gender identity

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 17:59

Elaine Smith checking if following are allowable:

a woman is an AHF

Womens prisons shoudl only be for biological women

etc

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 17:59

Tomkin's amendment would allow us to have the discussion we h ave on FWR

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:01

If we can't discuss these things or make statements like 'sex is binary' we are fucked, ladies

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:02

Thank you Adam Tomkins and Elaine Smith, for trying to ensure women have the right to discuss their sex based rights

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:03

Tomkins has based wording on EHCR Human rights laws.

Could not be more important

Right to speak only inoffesnively or in a manner the stae approves of is not worth having

that is controlled speech

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:05

Can't believe this is being debated, really.

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:07

[please please fucking accept this amendment]

Elaine Smith asks what is a reasonable person.

[question I'd like to know, too]

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:08

'adult human female' stickers have been reported to the police as hate crime

was this the act of a 'reasonable person'
