From For women Scotland's tweets:

And we're off!

Characteristic of sex

@JohannLamont
is up

@JohannLamont
says some will agree with her and some disagree but what she will say is not hateful.

She calls out @patrickharvie
for his male entitlement in ascribing to her a motive of transphobia.

Says more about his lack of self-awareness than how we make good law.

I've voted snp all my days never again.
The isp will get my 2nd vote but I don't know who to give my 1st to so angry now 🤬🤬🤬

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 22:02

I will vote Tory. They are 2nd in the running. My grandparents will be turning in their graves, but I don't see an alternative.

There is not much between Labour and Tory in second and third place here but I think I will go Labour in the hope of a Sarwar bounce in their ratings.

Although it feels pretty desperate now.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 10/03/2021 22:08

I’ll vote for whoever is closest to beating the SNP MSP here which was Labour last time but if it is Tory (& they understand human biology) I’ll bloody vote for them.

The sitting MSP seems to understand exactly what the issues are but just doesn’t care enough/have the integrity to speak up again the “the party”.

I feel like when Named Person went through but 100 times worse Sad

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 10/03/2021 22:09

I just can't bring myself to vote Tory. I think I'm going to just spoil my ballot for the first time ever. I can't describe how gutted I am about all of this.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 22:11

What pisses me off is that women can stand up and spell out the problems, illustrate that a perfectly rational statement like 'sex is immutable' has been called hate speech, note their own experiences of harassment, hate and abuse, and the men in that parliament just look fucking bemused, mansplain a bit, and then dismiss them. It beggars belief. They can't actually hear us talk. They are not capable of understanding.

Yes it's astounding anyone can listen to Johann and Joan fail to understand their very clear arguments and declare their words hate. It's like we're through the looking glass.

me too
TheHamsterCatcher · 10/03/2021 22:27

It's not like there was even disagreement among the women who spoke... every single woman who had the opportunity to speak was in favour of adding sex as an aggravator. Every single one.

Olderstyle1 · 10/03/2021 22:31

It's not so long ago that women weren't allowed to be witnesses - considered not trustworthy. And then it was decided that two women were the equivalent of one man (still is in some countries of course). And then - unless I imagined it - we were told we were equal.

But it wasn't true was it? Women's voices, no matter how thoughtful, intelligent, reasonable, passionate, knowledgeable, count for nothing if a man chooses otherwise.

Ifyourefeelingsinister · 10/03/2021 22:35

For the first time in my life I will consider voting Tory. Got a quick reply this morning from my Tory list MSP saying he wouldn't be voting for this legislation.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 22:35

Yes, Hamster, and the women were from different parties, too. Though none were Greens, of course, that's a man's party.

I'm gutted. Was going to vote SNP but I can't do that now. I really thought Humza Yousaf was a good and fair politician who has suffered from hate crime. How he can back this is beyond belief. For the first time since I moved here over 20 years ago, I'm questioning my decision to be in Scotland. Is this really the hill that the SNP want to die on??

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 22:36

The Scottish Tories are voting agains the HCB, but of course it will be all done and dusted by May elections.

OP posts:
Blurberoo · 10/03/2021 22:38

I got replies from 2 Tories saying they wouldn’t vote for the bill but they didn’t mention women in their reasoning. I don’t think I can stomach voting for them, it’s not like they care about us.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 22:38

It's possible that Humza means well, but from what I've seen of him he's all about showy gestures that lack absolutley any substance at all. He was transport before justice, and utterly failed to fulfil any of the promises he made. I suspect he's just not bright enough to grasp the problems that have been very clearly spelled out to him by many different parties/people.

OP posts:
TheShadowyFeminist · 10/03/2021 22:57

I'm not even interested in whatever feeble excuses he might have had, he's pushing this, he shat the bed as soon as EN/STA snapped their fingers & ignores the raging misogyny that's already fuelling the misogyny of odious wee scroats like Harvie who is gagging to report women under this bill along with all his wee acolytes.

The most I thought I'd do was spoil my vote in protest. But now I'm that raging I'll vote whoever has the best chance of getting these fuckers out.

God I'm soooooo angry 😡

I think this is happening across the board.

No. This man knows exactly what he's doing. He knows the sex of the people he chose to ignore and he's on a massive power trip.

How has someone with no legal background or qualifications been allowed to produce this shit.

SassenachsWhaHae · 11/03/2021 04:53

What does this mean for those of us living in Scotland? Can we express ourselves at all on the trans rights issue without running the risk of being accused of a crime? Can In tell my workplace I don't want to provide my pronouns because I do not personally believe I have a gender identity (and believe pronouns represent compelled speech indicating that I do) or will that be a crime now?

ValancyRedfern · 11/03/2021 06:48

I though Johann Lamont was a man? He's referred to as she throughout that article.

Igneococcus · 11/03/2021 06:51

I thought that too when I first came to Scotland, I have a male cousin with that name, but Johann Lamont is definitely female and an absolute star.

ValancyRedfern · 11/03/2021 06:56

Oh my goodness I can't believe I didn't realise!
