From For women Scotland's tweets:

twitter.com/ForwomenScot

And we're off!

Characteristic of sex

@JohannLamont
is up

@JohannLamont
says some will agree with her and some disagree but what she will say is not hateful.

She calls out @patrickharvie
for his male entitlement in ascribing to her a motive of transphobia.

Says more about his lack of self-awareness than how we make good law.

I just can't get my head around the dwelling defences being rejected.

Tibtom · 10/03/2021 18:12

I have set aside money to put into any court case to defeat this bill.

greatpurplepolkadots · 10/03/2021 18:14

Is it likely to be possible? I know the Named Person is often cited as another example of poor law that was withdrawn, is this likely to be similar?

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:15

I don't know enough about how it all works, purple, sorry. I do find the things they're suggesting to be absolutely shocking - the idea that a 'reasonable person' (undefined) is the arbiter, for example.

terryleather · 10/03/2021 18:16

Tomkins and McNeill are my MSPs - good to see them standing up for freedom of speech and women's rights...I suppose it balances out having the Fudmeister Patrick Harvie...I still think we're fucked though Sad

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:17

But this government is the one that brought us the 'dear haters' ad campaign. So think it's reasonable to insult their electorate and cast aspersions on any passing person. The initial bill also included stage productions - I think this has been struck out, now, though.

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:18

Yes, impressed by Tomkins and McNeill. But I agree, the SNP will have their way with this piece of nonsense law.

OP posts:
Tibtom · 10/03/2021 18:18

As I understand it the Scottish Parliament is not empowered to write legislation that goes against the ECHR.

greatpurplepolkadots · 10/03/2021 18:18

I had a moment of hope when Findlay interjected that it might be a breakthrough moment but no such luck.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:19

Oh, maybe Humza will go for Tomkins' amendment if he doesn't have to engage with Johann Lamont and Joan McAlpine. Makes sense. Won't listen to the women, might be persuaded by a bloke.

OP posts:
theskyispinkiiihaveOVARITcodes · 10/03/2021 18:20

Why does Humza use a million words when "I hate women" would do?

greatpurplepolkadots · 10/03/2021 18:20

Tibtom I did wonder how this works in the context of being part of the wider UK as it seems pretty out there for a devolved matter.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:24

McAlpine notes that while Tomkins' amendment will protect in court it won't necessarily stop false accusations, arrests, etc

OP posts:
Thecatonthemat · 10/03/2021 18:24

Thanks for the reports Arabella of course next time Scottish women vote there will be a choice ..

terryleather · 10/03/2021 18:27

@greatpurplepolkadots

I just can't get my head around the dwelling defences being rejected.
It would be absolutely fucking shocking, if I wasn't constantly shocked by the totalitarian authoritarian shite SG comes out with on a regular basis...
terryleather · 10/03/2021 18:31

Yes thanks Arabella, I can only bear this if I don't have to actually see/hear them - don't trust myself not to punch a hole through the screen!

Olderstyle1 · 10/03/2021 18:32

Scottish women urgently need our support for a 7pm twitter storm.

They have asked if we can tag @HumzaYousaf and @scotgov and use the hashtags #IAmTheStorm and #HateCrimeBill at 7pm on the dot.

The vote to include 'sex' in the hate crime bill has been lost today, despite the best efforts of @JohannLamont and @JoanMcAlpine
If you can tag any other Scottish MSPs, all the better.

Please let your networks know.

Outoftheshadow · 10/03/2021 18:37

The stress of this is enormous, and who could blame all those ciswomen -sic around the country if they called in sick for a ‘day’ due to this stress. Sure those compassionate TWAW could pick up the pieces in hospitals, schools, shops, care homes etc

greatpurplepolkadots · 10/03/2021 18:38

I am so scared about what will happen once Johann steps down.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:57

Geezo, forgot I had a meeting! Whooops.

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 18:58

Where are we? Is it 1984 yet?

OP posts:
theskyispinkiiihaveOVARITcodes · 10/03/2021 18:58

Excellent speech from Marra.

Big PH on now.

ArabellaScott · 10/03/2021 19:00

ffs, I get back and it's Patrick Harvie

OP posts:
TheShadowyFeminist · 10/03/2021 19:00

Harvie spelling out he was misgendering & dead naming covered & therefore seen as 'hate crime' legislated for.

Odious wee shite of a man.

theskyispinkiiihaveOVARITcodes · 10/03/2021 19:00

Ready for the wokescolding?
