Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Staniland Question is so good. Can we think of others?

The Staniland question:
Do you believe that male-sexed people have the right to undress and shower in a communal changing room with teenage girls?
is so clever. The fact that so many people refuse to engage with it - let alone answer it - means it's a quick, powerful, way of showing how ridiculous the TWAW position is.

Can we think of any others that would be as effective? Maybe we could come up with 5 or so really sharp questions that TRAs could refuse to answer. My first thoughts are something along the lines of:
Why is it racist to identify as another race but stunning and brave to identify as another sex?
I'm sure somebody can word that better.

So any suggestions? The questions need to be short and clear.

Should Eton accept Transmits? (Replace with any male only location/organisation... Masons? Private Club?)

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/02/2021 13:29

I like this game.

I'm not sure why, you're not very good at it.

Do some cultures remove the clitorises of some children because of their sex or gender?

Can a girl opt out of FGM if she identifies as male

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/02/2021 13:32

This wins it for me. IIRC it was a Lib Dem at a Fawcett event who said 50% men 50% transwomen would be fine. Jawdropping!

Sal Brinton, with other female politicians nodding along. We were discussing it on this current eye-opening thread:

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Should I, in my role as a youth leader, allow a trans individual and a non trans individual share a room, as they are the same 'gender', knowing they may be in a relationship?
I understand the basis for that question, but I deplore the use of 'non-trans'.
titchy · 17/02/2021 13:34

@jj1968

Should a 10 year old trans girl, who in every way looks like a girl, be forced to use spaces where men have their penis exposed?
Yes of course. The child is male, will look like a boy at that age (girls and boys look the same pre-puberty), has a penis and will a urinal. Confused
titchy · 17/02/2021 13:37

If TWAW why are there no examples of any getting pregnant?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/02/2021 13:41

@mindtheclegs I agree my wording on that question was a clunky, I just struggled to phrase to make it clear what was meant.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/02/2021 13:42

Shouldn't we encourage more trans women to support their gay LGBT brothers as surrogates?

mindtheclegs · 17/02/2021 13:42

@Labobo

What is the difference between a man and a woman?

My super-woke DS1 would say: That question isn't relevant because the trans movement is about people who have been born into the wrong sex. So they are women in men's bodies and therefore non-binary. And actually, I'd agree with him that this question can get closed down very quickly. He also says the bathroom argument is a straw man because there have been no cases ever of men posing as transwomen to access women's loos and changing rooms in order to assault women. I would love to know if he is correct on this.

We had such a long discussion about this recently. At least it didn't dissolve into a row. And to be fair to him he did say my constantly pressing the feminist argument has led him to realise it is a lot more complicated than he once thought .

I think if you were to access all of the stories incapsulated in this thread, plus the stories in the referenced threads, and were to print all of these out and bound into a volume - your son's illusion that the bathroom argument is invalid would be shattered.

Should female people be able to gather as a group alone, excluding all male people?

Dalyesque · 17/02/2021 13:46

What are the similarities between transwomen and women?

oldwomanwhoruns · 17/02/2021 13:49

So many good ones here. How about:

Is it fair that a man can compete in women's competitive sports in the UK?

... then if the answer is no,

If he now grows his hair and puts on pink shorts, is it now fair that a man can compete in women's competitive sports here in the UK?

Smile
rabbitwoman · 17/02/2021 13:51

My mind always leaps to 'can you tell me what the difference is between a trans woman and a woman?'...

Because of course there are massive differences that this whole argument hinges on but also to acknowledge those differences is..... hard for thrm to do....

I also found posting the photo of Laurel Hubbard on the podium winning gold, with the silver and bronze medalists turning their back, simply asking 'do you think this is fair?' tends to be hard to answer....

Violetparis · 17/02/2021 13:55

Do you believe that there are two biological sexes, male and female ? Does believing that there are two biological sexes, female and male, make you transphobic ? I would like politicians to answer these questions.

mindtheclegs · 17/02/2021 14:16
@mindtheclegs I agree my wording on that question was a clunky, I just struggled to phrase to make it clear what was meant.
My criticism was a bit clunky too, sorry!

wellthatsunusual · 17/02/2021 14:20

@jj1968

Plus, should women ever be allowed to discuss things without the presence of a male?

Should gender critical women ignore the spaces where they can do just that in favour of hijacking the world's largest parenting forum and creating a hostile environment for many parents?

Can you explain what you mean by hijacking?

Are women meant to ask your permission for what we may discuss?

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 17/02/2021 14:28

Part of the problem is that when people are asked these questions or challenged about the ideology, they duck it with "just be kind" wishy washy junk. And of course it's because of the cognitive dissonance they would encounter. Their #nodebate makes them look dishonest and desperate.

"I like this game."

Very telling that some think that women's rights are just "a game".

JJ what sort of game were you thinking of?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/02/2021 14:36

Can you explain what you mean by hijacking?

I guess it's similar to when Adrian Harrop said Posie Parker was "appropriating the definition of woman".

ListeningQuietly · 17/02/2021 14:39

What is a man?

the definition most people will give will be physical.

Can you be a man and a woman at the same time?

Most people will say no

and thus they will have proved by their own logic that men are not women.

aliasundercover · 17/02/2021 14:45

Part of the problem is that when people are asked these questions or challenged about the ideology, they duck it with "just be kind" wishy washy junk.

That was why I originally asked for a specific sort of question*, one where it required a yes or no answer or a refusal to answer. A question designed to force a TRA to say what they actually mean.

*No criticism of the other questions suggested, there have been some great examples.

Is it possible to identify as another race? might work better.

Doesnt work IME. 'Of course not' followed by 'but science' when you ask why. No science can be explained of course

Panicmode1 · 17/02/2021 15:50

If it is acceptable for Eddie Izzard to put on girl mode and boy mode, why is it unacceptable for people to put on black mode and white mode?
