Staniland Question is so good. Can we think of others?

The Staniland question:
Do you believe that male-sexed people have the right to undress and shower in a communal changing room with teenage girls?
is so clever. The fact that so many people refuse to engage with it - let alone answer it - means it's a quick, powerful, way of showing how ridiculous the TWAW position is.

Can we think of any others that would be as effective? Maybe we could come up with 5 or so really sharp questions that TRAs could refuse to answer. My first thoughts are something along the lines of:
Why is it racist to identify as another race but stunning and brave to identify as another sex?
I'm sure somebody can word that better.

So any suggestions? The questions need to be short and clear.

Am I right in thinking that the Guardian now refers to FGM as Forced Genital Mutilation rather than Female Genital Mutilation?

I heard that somewhere, but not sure if it's true.

notyourhandmaid · 21/02/2021 19:12

The Guardian style guide has it as 'female genital mutilation' still (and not to use 'female circumcision'. www.theguardian.com/guardian-observer-style-guide-f

@EdgeOfACoin

Those of are very good. It's important for me to state that I don't believe Stephoknee represents transgender people, but that proponents of the ideology should give some thought to the acceptance without exception mantra in these cases. They might find themselves answering no to your questions but not able to articulate why that person's self-identification is not valid or in good faith. Because they're not willing to do any critical thinking.

As FTF is a valid transgender Identity; Can a FTF be on a trans panel? www.google.com/amp/s/beyond-mogai-pride-flags.tumblr.com/post/167350281550/ftf-transgender-pride-flag/amp

Mumofgirlswholiketoplaywithmud · 22/02/2021 13:39

(and if not, why not?)

@SecondRow

My one is

If one male on a women's rugby team is ok, are 15 males ok?

I like this one. The assumption from the TRAs about women's sport always seems to be 'come on TERFs, it's very rare and it's just one itty bitty transwoman who wants to play your game and shower with you afterwards, why can't you BE KIND and inclusive about that'.

This question really slams the point home.

Is it fair that Government financed lobby groups are advocating the removal of the single sex exemptions from the Equality Act Exemptions which allow for example single sex rape crisis centres?

If TWAW and TMAM, at what point does a Trans Man concede to being biologically female to be given life saving surgery and treatment for sex based diseases such as Ovarian Cancer?

CranberriesChoccyAgain · 23/02/2021 10:36

@Chilver

I think because they believe body parts are neither inherently male or female, they can carry on the illusion without too much cognitive dissonance or conceding anything.

Of course we know that only women have uteruses, ovaries, vaginas, etc. And a woman who no longer has some of those parts is still a woman. Her DNA hasn't been altered.

It seems to us unnecessary to explain that but TRAs think they have an "aha!" moment when it's pointed out that only women can become pregnant and give birth, and they ask what about the women who can't, and are they not women, etc.

They seem to confuse
Only A can do X
with
All A must be able to do X.

When people who have prostates are called men in prostate cancer literature is this a discriminatory , transphobic act as transmen don't have prostates?

DdraigGoch · 24/02/2021 00:33

In the same vein, it is understood that if you enter a changing room, you consent to be naked in front of whoever is permitted to be in there.
So what happens if you do not wish to consent to be in a state of undress in the presence of a man? Are you expected just to avoid all changing rooms? Are Muslim women in particular to be excluded from swimming pools because they cannot risk being seen by a strange man?

PumpkinSpiceWoman · 25/06/2021 13:29

Except you know full well that it's been answered. Frequently. It's not some clever gotcha.

1Endeavour2 · 25/06/2021 18:51

Do you think anyone who chooses can identity as a disabled person?

newstart1337 · 26/06/2021 00:44

The simpler the better.

Can a woman have a penis?

junipertree2 · 26/06/2021 13:23

To a man -

'How would you react if you watched your 10 year old daughter walk into a women's toilet alone, and an obvious male sauntered in behind her?'

Honest responses only.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 26/06/2021 13:28

The next time I'm invited to put my pronouns in a Zoom (now a feature since update 5.7.0), Meet, or Teams - in a professional setting:

Do you have a conflict of interest to declare around why you're requesting we enter our gender pronouns? Does this add to your validation as a Stonewall ally or gain points for your Stonewall audit? What will you do with this information - do you plan to retain it or audit who did or didn't comply?

Naunet · 30/09/2021 10:21

For any man in an argument with a TW, who likes to cry about you being misogynistic or mansplaining or anything like that, just ask them what makes them more of a woman than you are.
I’m dying to know the answer to this.

NancyDrawed · 30/09/2021 11:13

I have heard it said that women shouldn't gatekeep single sex spaces and deny TW access, because if there IS an incident caused by a not really trans person, there are laws in place to deal with that (after the event of course).

Why, then, can't TW use the correct provision for their SEX, because if anything bad happened, there are laws in place to deal with that.

(As Magdalen Burns said, men need to stop being dicks around other men who look / dress / behave differently, but we are a long way from that - single sex while gender neutral)

But also, I have heard it said that if a man wants to do a woman harm, he won't stay out of a single sex space and aren't women silly for thinking that we can do anything to prevent it. Why, then, do TW think that using the women's single sex space is going to protect THEM? Because surely, if a man wanted to do a TW harm, he will just go ahead and do that anyway.

@Packingsoapandwater

I think there's something to be said about infamous figures.

So "does everyone have the right to self identify as a woman, even if they happen to be, say, Ted Bundy?"

This is close to the one I was thinking of:

Should a convicted male pedophile who targets girls & who is in the community, be able to self-id as a woman, giving him access to female toilets & changing rooms?

A follow-up if they say no would be:

What are the criteria for gatekeeping, who are the gatekeepers & how is it enforced?

  • which is more of an agenda for a discussion than a yes/no question, obviously.

What has been answered? If you mean the Staniland Question, I've never seen anybody from the other side answer it. I've seen people disappear from a thread at the sight of it, block, evade, report, insult, insinuate & make the ludicrous suggestion that HS is a danger; but I've never seen a straight answer to it.

The only people I've seen answer it are GC & the general public, who say no.

MiladyBerserko · 30/09/2021 14:41

I have no idea why she gets the credit for this question. Posie was asking this directly with regards her 11 year old daughter way before

TheABC · 30/09/2021 14:59

Can an Afghanistan woman identify as a man under the Taliban? If not, why not?

CinnamonMagic · 30/09/2021 18:34

"Do you have a conflict of interest to declare around why you're requesting we enter our gender pronouns? Does this add to your validation as a Stonewall ally or gain points for your Stonewall audit? Stonewall aside, I want to know if contributers to the meeting will be treated differently based on their pronouns. If I identify as he/him will I be able to interrupt people using she/her? Will I get more credit for work and ideas that have perhaps rehashed a she/her's contribution. Will my views be taken more seriously? Will I be able to negotiate a higher pay rise? etc.

As long as men and women are treated differently, asking for pronouns and making sex or gender salient to every discussion risks people being treated differently or suffering from stereotype threat.

“What surgical and/or medical procedure can change the chromosomes of a person of one biological sex to the other?”

“What medical and/or surgical procedure can change a male skeleton/pelvis to a female one? Or a female endocrine system to a male one?”

“What medical and/or surgical procedure can create a fully functioning vagina or penis?”
